Whatever it is...it's awesome and I bet MS don't have anything like that.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Launch Titles: What must we have.
« on: October 15, 2005, 11:48:53 AM »
So far as what we get at launch, it doesn't matter the specific titles. It's the variety that must me emphasized. Granted variety is important for ANY system launch but in the case of the Rev it is a must. And it's for the same reason I'm in favor of a Mario Party or Wario Ware type game come launch time - TEH CONTROOLER!!1uno

The Rev controller must be utilized in as many different ways as possible early on in the system's lifespan, or a short lifespan it will have...[/yoda?]. Even if Nintendo market the living shiznit out of the Rev in the months prior to launch, people's interest will remian peaked for only so long. So Nintendo must showcase the Rev controller in as many cool, unique and PRACTICAL ways as possible within, I'd say, 6 months of system release.

Past that point Nintendo may find it much harder to show off it's new invention as the "newness" of the system will have worn off. And if all that is left is the lingering scent of Ode De' Failure then it will really be a kick in Nintendo's collective junk. They'll have to remarket the thing all over again.

It is really important for Nintendo to launch well this time. More than it ever has been before.

I think Retro made some statement a while back about this would be the "last of the Prime games". So I imagine the word "Prime" will be in there somwhere.

And I think I've ranted on this before but I REALLY like the idea of a Mario Party style game at launch. A title like that would surely explore the Rev contoller in a very thorough manner. Which is something that must be done in at least one all encompasing title early on.

I couldn't agree more.

And on the subject of Rev pricing. I really think we ought to get this 99-150 dollars price range right out of our heads. While the Rev may be the least expensive of the three next gen systems it just seems retarded to think Nintendo would charge so little for the Rev at first. I think $199 is about as low as we can realisticly hope for the system to debut at.

Not if they used a "tag barrel" like option like in DK 64. Now that it's running through my brain I think a Mario style game with DK, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and say...Wario (No Waluigi cuz he teh sux hard) as playable characters would be pretty kick ass. Or could be anyway.

DK 64 owns. I just love it and I'd also love another DK adventure game. I don't care if it's a launch title or what. I just want it.

All true. And here is where my concern begins.

We all know how lousy Nintendo are at marketing. And yes they have made great strides lately and are really pushing their software and such better than I've seen in years. But compared to MS and Sony, they still suck on it hard and long I'm afraid. And not just when it comes to simple advertising of games. MS and Sony are much better at getting simple points across and making themselves look uber cool in all that they do. Nintendo is so weak in this arena it's not funny...at all.

When the Rev launches, and shortly beforehand I imagine, Nintendo will begin whatever qualifies at NCL as a "marketing blitz" to go after it's targeted audience. And like I agreed earlier, Nintendo need to both aim at the non-gamer crowd and the already a-gamer crowd at the same time or else risk putting all their eggs in one basket as Ian said.

Can we REALLY count on Nintendo doing BOTH at the same time? I'm worried about that to say the least. If Nintendo were to focus almost exclusively on the non-gamer sect and then Uh-OH it turns out to be what we call in econ class a "TEH TURD MARKET" then what? Fall back on the legions of hardcore Nintendo fans who will surely be supporting the system already? Well, that crowd is shrinking. And Nintendo can no longer simply assume that they have this magical built in fanbase of diehards. They do, but as I said they need to compete here and the diehard Nintendo gamers are a dying breed.

Of course this is all a moot point if the non-gamer crowd latches on to the Rev with both hands and one spare foot but the cause for concern on this matter is justified I feel.

^Ah, a Maurice LaMarche fan. Cool points for you friend. (or nerd points as the case may be)

But the man is a legend. His commentaries on The Critic box set crack me up.

"Rosebud...Rosebud garden peas. Full of country goodness and green peaness! Oh that's terrible."

The question is. If the Rev comes with the shell attachment, the analog stick, and a game, would we all be willing to pay $299ish? I would.

You COULD make the same comments about The Rev. But it would be stupid because the PSP playing NES games is funny and the Rev playing them is more acceptable. But I get what you're saying plus this page is nine miles long.

Ah, the mentioning of playing games with a little girl was just another swipe at Nintendo. "Look we have gai little kids games too!" was all he was saying. With these guys, everything they say has at least two meanings.

I don't know. I can't remember when the hell I heard that movie script concept. But that's probably right. I watched a few episodes of that last ghostbusters cartoon. Man it was worse than that one back in the 80's that WASN'T "The Real Ghostbusters". I've blocked most of that one out but I think it had a gorilla in it.

Oh I seriously doubt that the Rev will go for $99. Nintendo aren't going to take a loss for no reason. They'll be able to price the Rev way above that and still look more afordable than the x360 and the PS3. And anyway, a start off price of 99 smackers would just make the system look Y2CHEAP.

That's good enough to go on a T-shirt.

As for this article I found, oh yeah a bit on the unprofessional side but still the overall point that the author is getting around to is a valid one. Nintendo may succeed in the longrun in this industry simply by not going head over heels, balls to the wall gonzo like MS and Sony are. Nintendo want to compete with them in an indirect manner and it's a valid argument that this strategy may pay off for them over the long haul.

But mostly I just really liked that comment about the S-controller fusing grandma's brain.

Maybe that's where the idea went when the studio wouldn't do the movie without Bill Murray?

TEH LINKAGE

Yet another article. Good Nintendo horn tooting there.

My fav quotes:

"Sony and MS are businesses first. One day, someone in a suit more expensive than my house is going to see the billions (read that: billions) thrown into these two black holes and say, “Remind me why we’ve wasted billions of dollars we could be using for our core competencies on game consoles that don’t make us any money and, in fact, require losing lots of money just to stay competitive.”"

"Normal people, non-gamers, don’t care if they get twenty megapixels to the gigaflop. "

"Hand your grandmother a S-Controller or DualShock. You’ll probably fuse her brain."

"Nintendo doesn’t have to win. They just have to do well, because they’re ahead on points/profits. The other guys are racing like maniacs around the track and Nintendo serenely cruises on with the season wrapped up."

Because I'm so awesome.

Duder, I remember your defense of the simplicity in design argument. And you were right. But don't get angry at everybody for not recognizing it. We all make comments on these boards. They come from everywhere. For instance, I pull most of mine right out of my ass. But to hope that people will consider you a genius or give you any praise for anything like that is just fruitless and silly.

Trust me, there is only one thing that forum posters really appreciate. And that's...a good poop joke.

I have an idea for a game called "tv". You could use the remote controller to change channels in the game and do other neat stuff. Like turn up the volume or turn the tv off.
