Nintendo Gaming / RE: The great crash of.....05
« on: February 01, 2004, 10:47:11 AM »
All the FMV was completely intact, despite being heavily compressed.  Bottom line was they basically managed to get an entire 2 disk game into a 64MB cart, and that alone was a feat all on it's own.

I have a brother that's getting this game whenever it comes out.  All I know is that my GBASP will be fully charged and ready to go!

One thing about the analog controls, Atari originally designed an analog stick for the 5200 system.

Well, they did say they wanted to take gameplay to new heights, but man I wasn't expecting this.  I hope this thing does manage to suceed, maybe we can get some new types of games out of it.

NGPC and the Wonderswan had battery lives comparable to the GBC.

Hmm, sounds like I might want to check this one out sometime.  What is the game supposed to be about?

I still can't imagine that thing being under 300 dollars unless some serious stripping down was done.  I mean, capabilties between the N64 and a PS2 IIRC?  I just don't see it.

Check this article from Gamespy out.

Made me come real close to choking on my drink...

Oh yeah, and they say the PSP is going to be released in November of this year.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Backwards Compatability
« on: December 28, 2003, 06:04:08 PM »
There's only one question that I'd have with backwards compatibility, would there be cube hardware within the system itself like the GBA has GBC hardware, or is the Gamecube going to be emulated in the N5 like the PS2/PS1 deal?  If they go with option 1 it'll almost be guaranteed 100% compatibility, but how much more would something like that add on to the initial price tag of the system?   Option 2 would probably be more economical to do but I could almost definitely see compatibility issues coming forth, especially with games that either really pushed the cube or used it to do unusual tricks.  I've already had 3 PS1 games fail to boot on the PS2 and I wouldn't want to go through anything like that with the N5.  Believe me though, I do want backwards compatibility and if they manage to do it seamlessly then cool.  Right now I'm just concerned about it, especially now since I hear they're actually doing it.

If the screen was platinum and the base was onyx I'd probably like it a little better.

TalkBack / RE: Advance Game Port Now Available
« on: December 18, 2003, 06:33:00 AM »
From what I've heard, it is an emulator.  It's only capable of playing GBA games.  They say the sound emulation is quite off in several games that were tested.  I'm not too sure about multiplayer though, but I don't believe there's an extension port on it either.   Oh yeah, it does come with a boot disk too which in this case is probably where the emulator is. The screen is set in only one size which the equivalent of the GBPlayer's regular screen size.  Overall if you don't mind playing imperfect emulations of the games and you only concerned about seeing what's on screen then this would be fine, otherwise, I'd take the GBPlayer by far.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Super Smash Brothers? What's the big deal?
« on: December 07, 2003, 09:00:38 PM »
This game has a fairly large tournament scene going, so the game's gotta be worth something.  Especially considering that it's been going strong since it's release.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: GBA SP audio problem
« on: December 03, 2003, 10:37:26 AM »
GBA's digital audio gets downsampled to 8-Bita quality, that's why you'll hear the hissing.  Even so, some games hide it better than others.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Ghosting in GBA SP?
« on: November 06, 2003, 06:35:58 AM »
I think the amount of ghosting you'll see has everything to do with the way the AR film was installed while in the factory.   Good installs shouldn't have ghosting while slightly off installs will as well as other negative effects.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: GameBoy Player Problem?
« on: November 05, 2003, 09:55:48 AM »
That's how the image gets drawn on screen in those games.  Remember the GBA's screen draws images differently than a TV would and in all essence the GBPlayer is still drawing the images the way it drew them on the GBA, with the exception of the obvious hz difference between the two of them.  Put it on soft, and the screen will become blurrier, but it'll hide the skip.   Put it on sharp and you'll see it after a certain amount of screen refreshes.  It's completely normal and nothing is wrong with your GBPlayer.  I remember noticing it at first myself, but now I don't even pay any mind to it.

Guys, if you like KOF and want it on the go, I'd highly recommend getting this game!  Unlike Neo Blood, this game is actually accurate to the Neo Geo KOF's.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mega Man Anniversary Collection Question
« on: September 28, 2003, 11:00:12 AM »
They're gonna probably be exactly like the re-releases of 1 through 6 on the PSX were.  There was an original and an arranged mode where the graphics were changed a little and the soundtrack was remixed.  Don't worry, you'll be getting your originals.  However, I've got the chance to hear a few of the remixes and to me they're more than welcome.

Oh yeah, and for Megaman 8, here's hoping they use the superior Saturn port for it instead of the PSX one.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: plugging my cube to my speakers
« on: September 05, 2003, 11:07:52 AM »
I know that brand, they're the same guys who tell you that their speakers work with consoles and then once you open it up and look at the instructions they tell you that you'll need a special piece that you have to buy from them in order to use it.  I saw that and sold the set to my brother and bought another set with a line-in jack on the back so I can use one of those small stereo adapters that let you put the red and white cables into it and plug it into the line-in.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Is the GBA that much different then SP?
« on: September 03, 2003, 11:39:31 AM »
If you like fighting games, I'd highly recommend the SP.  The control pad is worlds better for them than the original GBA pad, especially with Street Fighter Alpha 3.  I used to have a GBA myself and despite the lighting issue (which i installed a 100 watt equivalent flourescent bulb for) I used to play it a ton when I first got it.  Like most people though, having to position myself perfectly to play that thing got to be a bit of a hassle after a while and I slowed down on it up until the SP.  Man, the speaker is louder, the controls are better, and the light just the icing on the cake.  That feeling of being able to take it anywhere and play it beats anything the GBA may of had going for it hands down.  The only thing I don't like about the SP is the slight washing out of colors that the light does, but then again that's what the GB player at home is for.  I'm telling you, unless there's something about the GBA that REALLY stands out to you I'd go with the SP no questions asked.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nokia N-Gage v.s Game Boy Advance SP
« on: September 03, 2003, 11:27:24 AM »
I remember that thing, it was called the Sony Pocketstation.   I dunno know if I'd call it a portable though, it was more like the Dreamcast VMU than anything else.  Now here's something I would love to know, Nokia announces the N-Gage and all of a sudden the GBASP, once "sleek and sexy" is now a kids toy?  I just have this to say, gimme my kids toy then.  The fact that the thing functions as a phone and has an OS is gonna hold that thing back.  That, and why is the screen so thin?  Yeah it's 10 pixels wider than the GB and 40 more vertically, but WHY?  You would think if they wanted to do 3D graphics (or any graphics for that matter) on this thing they'd give it at the most a widescreen format bigger than the GBA screen.  I mean, when Sonic Adva..  I mean N needs a letter boxing mode to see the full view something's wrong.  Not to mention the fact that doing so sends the graphics into the abyss.  I can't see this thing with a fighting game at all unless they format the graphics so you hold the thing vertically.  And even then that's gonna be some awkward stuff.  Thing is though, none of this really matters anyway, the PSP hype coupled with the GBA's current lineup will probably kill it off anyhow.

I agree wholeheartedly!  Even though I have a Playcube and PS1 Dual Shock pad, I still prefer using the GC pad.  The buttons just feel more natural for the game and IMO the D-Pad is much better.    Diagonals respond so much better with it. Maybe the average reviewer has big thumbs or something, I dunno.  About SC2 X-Box at 720p, it ain't full screen.  While it does look good and sharp, the fact it ain't covering the whole screen bugs me.  At 480p that and the Cube version look nearly indistinguishable anyway.
