I would have thought that a place like K-Mart would have the GameBoy Player.

For anyone looking to buy Eternal Darkness - GameStop has new copies for $14.99

Best Buy has Time Splitters 2 for $19.99

Both titles are definitely worth picking-up and adding to your GameCube collection

Cool. What's frustrating is that when it scrolls up, a crucial part of the playing area disappears. It's a bit frustrating. I take it that it's the exact same way when played on the GBC or GBA and not just something the GBP is doing to the game?

Other than that, I think the game looks just as good with the GBP as the original did on the NES

OK, I bought the GameBoy Player last night along with Super Mario Bros. DX for the GameBoy Color. The game looks great on the TV, but I do have a question...

When trying Super Mario Bros. DX out, I noticed that if I push up on the either the D-Pad or the Analog Stick there is some kind of scrolling, where the the game screen moves up , cutting off the bottom inch or so of the screen (the ground that Mario walks on, enemies, etc.). If I push down, the screen returns to the original position. Also, if I press X or Y (select) - it does a weird scrolling where it jumps an inch to the right or left.

While I am not really concerned about the X and Y scrolling, I am concerned about what happens when I push up on the controller, since it affects the play area. What I would like to know is: Is this a problem with the GameBoy Player or is this the way Super Mario Bros. DX was designed? When played on the GameBoy Color or GameBoy Advance, does the same thing happen when you press up on the D-Pad?

It kind of reminds me of Sega's DreamCast commercials when at the end you would see the DC logo and hear the girl whisper "It's thinking".

When I got to the store I notice most of the new GBA games were in the 40 bucks rage wich I thought it was rare since a month ago I went to the same store and  most of them where in the 30 bucks range. When I go to pick up my new GBA player they told me it wasn't 45.99 that I had to pay,(because i pre order it a while a go) no no no it was 55.99 that I had to pay, so that means i had to pay 99.99 bucks for the gba player plus a gba game? WTF? this is abusive I tell you abusive I was so mad that they change the price range because they wanted more $$$$ I think this is too much, 40 bucks for a gba game is too much in my mind when we all know that the gba games are always in the 30 range, i may be bitching about the 10 or 20 bucks that i have to pay more, but think about it, if i pay 20 more bucks, so will you and other 1000 people meaning they are making more money. I think this is too abusive and a slap in the face to the gamer comunity, so screw you gamestop.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who thinks GameStop is shady at times. From what I have personally witnessed, certain GameStop stores make up their own prices. I live in Philadelphia, PA (USA) - I work in Center City (our downtown area). The only GameStop in this area is at The Gallery (a shopping mall). Since The Gallery is a high traffic shopping center, the GameStop that is located there does HUGE business. Every time I go in there, GameStop is crowded. I have noticed that at this store in particular, the prices are $5-$10 higher on games (new and used) than the prices listed on the GameStop website and at the 2 other locations that I sometimes shop at. The reason why I go this GameStop is because it is more or less on my way home from work. The other 2 GameStops that I go to are in my neighborhood in NE Philly (Mayfair Shopping Center and Bustleton & Cottman). Those stores have the same prices as listed on the website and sometimes they are cheaper!

Here is my dilemma...I do not own any version of GameBoy and I don't have any GameBoy games. I am interested in the GameBoy Player because it would allow me to play some of the older NES/SNES titles like Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter II. Since I am a casual gamer and would only use the GameBoy Player as a means of reliving my childhood with a handful of games, would you guys recommend that I buy one? My fear is that I would spend $50 on the GBP (and what $25-$35 on cartridges?) and not make good use of the unit by only playing a handful games. I wouldn't want my purchase to go to waste since I barely play my Cube as it is.

I have a Pelican Wireless G3 and I absolutely LOVE it. It performs just as well as a Nintendo Wavebird - plus it supports the rumble feature. I bought the controller back in January and I just changed the batteries last week! Not bad for AA batteries - with the rumble feature on 30% of the time!

While it's true Yoda dies in RETURN OF THE JEDI, I'm sure the official explanation for his odd appearance at the MTV Movie Awards 2003 would be that "He didn't realy die - he was only acting", LOL

Nintendo Gaming / Official Demo Disc Talk
« on: June 02, 2003, 04:14:30 AM »
I began my search for the Preview Disc on Thursday. Game Stop was sold out (they said it was a very popular item and sold out as soon as they arrived). Sam Goody had one copy (priced at $0.01 - yes one cent!), but after the Manager called 2 other stores - he refused to sell it to me, citing that if it's priced at a penny it must be part of some special promotion that he isn't aware of. Then he stressed the fact that the back of the packages reads "NOT FOR RESALE". I went to Game Gallery - they didn't have any.

Friday, I went to Game Champ (a nice little place here in Philly, at 15th & Chestnut Sts). I find myself buying games from this store alot. I went in there to buy SPEED KINGS (it looked promising, but it's not so great) - No preview discs.

Before giving up, I went to Target on Saturday. There were no Preview Discs in the case that they keep the games in. Before leaving, I decided to ask the guy at the Electronics Department cash register. Sure enough, they had a few copies but for whatever reason they were behind the counter next to the register.

SOUL CALIBER II is going to rock!

Nintendo Gaming / Do I free my mind?
« on: May 29, 2003, 12:03:31 PM »
I see a lot of reviews that recommend renting the game instead of buying it.

I bought it the day it came out, and while it fails to live up to all of the hype surrounding it (greatest game of all time, the game that will change video games forever, blah blah blah), it is still a very fun game.

I'm not sure what you consider the "older gaming crowd", but I am 27 and I am not sorry that I spent $50 on Enter The Matrix. I am the type of gamer that plays a little bit of everything. I begin playing one game, stop, and play something else. Sometimes it's weeks before I get back to playing a particular game, but I have been playing The Matrix almost exclusively since I bought it. The sound is great - utilizing the songs and original score  from the Matrix soundtrack. While the game has it's flaws, the characters look extremely good. Some of the movements are awkward, but that doesn't take away from the game's enjoyment. The only thing I can honestly say is really lacking, visually, are the vehicles. The cars look pretty bad (about N64 quality). Other than that, if you like action (fighting & shooting), The Matrix is rather satisfying.

I ran across this over at www.GameCubeNetwork.com - this is an excerpt from, supposedly, an interview (translation courtesy of Babble Fish) from Japan's Famitsu magazine with Satoru Iwata. If the translation is accurate (and the interview is legitimate), Iwata officially states that Nintendo's next game console will in fact be backward compatible with the Game Cube. I hope this is true...

Famitsu: What can you tell us about the Gamecube 2?

Satoru Iwata: It will be able to use the gamers already created in the previous generation. And it is something that will work. Side performances and graphics, one reached today a kind of limit with a quality which is already close to realism and it will be difficult to still much better do. The role of Nintendo is thus to study other ways in order to improve the experience of the player.

I also have it, and I must say that I wish they had spent some more time polishing it.  I just doesn't feel finished.  The game is really fun, don't get me wrong, but I have a lot of gripes.  First of all, where is the Surround Sound!!  What is up with a Matrix game that only runs in Mono and Stereo?  Another gripe is the hit detection.  It's marginal at best.  While the moves are very well scripted, it takes something away when the guy you're attacking goes flying, but your kick mised him by about a foot.  Also, sprinting with Ghost looks VERY FUNNY.  Congrats to Shiny for awesome character design, the people in the game look really good.  I do wish, however, that they'd put the same amount of detail into the vehicles.  The cars in the game look absolutely fugly.  The in-game cut-scenes are also an eyesore to look at.  And those ladder climbing animations...

Do you have you audio connected to a receiver? I had it turned up loud last night and I thought it sounded very good (exlcuding those pops between game and FMV sequences). You're correct about the hit detection, but then again I find it to be like that with most games. The cars definitely could have been designed witha bit more thought, they don't look much different than something you found in an N-64 game, LOL. Overall though, it's an enjoyable game.

Nintendo Gaming / Enter The Matrix
« on: May 16, 2003, 04:22:28 AM »
I bought Enter Ther Matrix yesterday. I've played through the first stage and I must say that it's pretty damn good.

I have noticed a few problems - I have my audio going through a receiver. There is an audible "pop" at times during FMV sequences as it switches between the game and the movies...I have also noticed some slow down in the frame rate...

Other than those minor problems - I am satisfied with the game.

While agree that $29.99 is too much for the "Player's Choice" line-up, I think Nintendo should lower the price to $19.99...Both Sony & Microsoft are currently selling their PS2 & X-Box best sellers at $19.99 so why can't Nintendo at least match that offer?

Nintendo Gaming / Has E3 Stolen The Thunder From The Matrix?
« on: May 15, 2003, 07:16:18 AM »
Before E3 began, all we heard about throughout the various different video gaming sites was hype for today's release of Enter The Matrix. Some people had gone so far as to claim that it is the greatest video game ever made (I will be getting my copy today, I guess I'll know soon, LOL). Now that E3 has arrived, I have noticed that the Enter The Matrix news and hype seems to have come to a standstill. Is it that the E3 coverage of games that won't be released for a while is overshadowing news on games that are here and available now? What's the deal?

Nintendo Gaming / How do I connect Gamecube audio to an amplifier?
« on: May 15, 2003, 06:37:28 AM »
You can use 2 "Y" adaptors (one female/in to 2 male/out). Have one end of the Y adaptor plugged in your TV and run an extension cable from the other end to your audio receiver.
