You are correct about Capcom's upcoming GameCube exclusives for older and mature audiences - I am looking forward to several of those titles myself. I was speaking with the non-Nintendo fan in mind. The GameCube already has the reputation of being a "kiddie system", another exclusive Disney game geared towards children just makes the situation that much worse.

I don't care either way, I will love my Cube regardless. It would just look better for Nintendo if those types of games made for children shipped for all 3 systems instead of having them as exclusive titles.

How will the GameCube ever overcome the stigma that it's a "kiddie system" if it keeps getting exclusive games made for children?

Maybe Mario really does need to shoot a hooker to make the industry take them seriously.

Nintendo Gaming / Rally Championship
« on: July 30, 2003, 05:20:04 AM »
I have a weakness when it comes to racing games. It’s somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Right now the GameCube seems to lack decent racers – aside from the 2 Burnout games, WaveRace and F-Zero there really aren’t any other racing games worth mentioning.

I noticed that Rally Championship came out this week. I really haven’t heard much about it, other than what IGN has reported about it over the last 2 weeks. At $19.99 it’s very tempting, but at the same time I have to wonder what’s wrong with the game that it’s being sold for $19.99 – Afterall, you get what you pay for.

IGN had some rather nice things to say about the game, but in the end they only gave it a rating of 7.0

Has anyone had a chance to check this game out yet? If so, what is your opinion?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Question about Mario Golf: TT
« on: July 29, 2003, 06:08:27 AM »
Usually when a release date is given, 9 times out of 10 it is actually the date the game ships to stores. Depending on where you live it can take up to 3 days after the "release date" before the stores actually receive the game.

Since a lot of these companies ship from the West Coast - gamers who live in California most likely can get the game on the day of it's release since the stores are relatively close-by to receive same day shipping. I live in Philly and I called around to a 2 different GameStop stores yesterday, one Game Gallery and a store I frequent called Game Champ - none of them even knew that Mario Golf was coming out, let alone have an in-store ETA. After looking it up in their computer system, The first GameStop told me they didn't expect it before tomorrow (Wednesday) the other GameStop told me they should have it today. GameGallery had absolutely no clue whatsoever, no idea that Mario Golf was coming out, let alone a date (pathetic). GameChamp was unsure of when it would arrive, they told me either today or tomorrow at the latest.

My question is this - Mario Golf has been on the in-store demo kiosk for a little while now. I saw at least 10 commercials last night alone for Mario Golf during WWE Raw. How could these stores not know about Mario Golf?

Well what else could they have been working on?

At a $149 with a free GameBoy Player, I think Nintendo definitely has the best deal around. You have already stated that there are at least 3 Nintendo exclusive games that you are interested in. I say that those are at least 3 good reasons to purchase a GameCube

I like both(well i like pcs....not windows)

With the new G5 processor (IBM's PPC 970), a lot of people in Mac community feel that developers will begin to bring more and more games over to the Mac. My iMac G3/350 MHz which is 3 years old runs just as well as my PC at work (Pentium 4, 2GHz). MacOS-X supports right-clicking (but Apple still only ships the one button mouse) - so you can plug in any 2 button USB mouse and right click without any problems.

I mean, in this day and age, saying that Macs handle video and audio editing better is sort of a myth.  On a PC, there's all kinds of software to do whatever you want.  Photoshop runs about as fast, if not faster than a Macintosh, and just about every type of software that you could want on Macintosh is available for PC in some way.

PCs just make it a lot easier to upgrade your hardware.

I respect that. In the past Macs were the only option for audio & video, and PCs have begun to catch-up, but honestly, Macs still do it better. (I'm not PC bashing)

What it really comes down to is personal preference.

Upgrading - Apple's towers are just about as easy to upgrade as a PC. The all-in-one systems such as the iMac and eMac are where you run into trouble. Those machines are not meant to be user upgradable, which does suck. Still, I managed to upgrade my iMac (G3/350) without any problems.

Yeah, you will be thrilled with your Mac, right up to the moment that you want to use it for something...  I mean, browsing all the OSes features has to get boring sometime right?  Sooner or later, I am sure that you will want to play a game or something... right then is where the faults come to show themselves.

Besides, I would like to see someone build a Mac out of spare parts.

I've never been into computer gaming (afterall, if I want to play games - I have my GameCube )

My Mac does exactly what I need it to do - runs all of the software that I need to use.

I rarely ever "browse" though the OS features, and I am never bored

I use my Mac for music production and editing, something that Macs have always excelled in - which is the main reason why I got into Macs in the first place.

As far as building a Mac out of spare parts - why would I want to? Apple holds their machines to higher standards

Grey Ninja - it's all in good fun, bro.

Buy a Mac. Once you experience the awesome and superior MacOS-X, you will wonder how you ever put up with Windows

No, I am pretty sure that an official annoucement was made at E3 by Nintendo where they confirmed that Factor5 are developing an all-new PilotWings game for the GameCube.

Maybe Nintendo will hire Tom Green to be their official spokesman and have him film a series of commercials like he did for Pepsi One and Right Guard deodorant.

Personally, I think that the game has a lot to do with the legend described in Xenogears when two angels with a single wing were shown in the form of a giant statue.  I am hoping that Baten Kaitos is the telling of that legend.  If it is, I encourage you to buy this game.  If it isn't, buy it anyways.  Monolith knows how to make an RPG fan happy.

I am entirely unsure if the game is coming to the US, but if it isn't, I will import, and read every 5th word in a hope to understand what's going on.

I am not usually an RPG fan, but there is something about this game that really caught my attention. I have never played the Xenogear games, so I am not familiar at all with the story. Related or not it would make no difference to me.

I am wondering why IGN is making such a big deal over this game if it wouldn't be making it's way to the US eventually? I have never imported a game because all of the games I ever wanted were released in the US, but I might have to for this one.

IGN has posted information about Baten Kaitos. The game is being devoloped by Monolith and will be released in Decmeber (in Japan) through Namco. The games sounds very interesting and the screen shots look promising. What are the chances of seeing this game released in the US in 2004?

The release dates you are looking for can be found in the release dates section of PGC

As far as your Soul Calibur II question goes - It depends on the retailer you pre-order the game from. You will have to "shop around" to see who is offering what with a pre-order.

Nintendo Gaming / The N5
« on: July 11, 2003, 11:15:08 AM »
I agree with Ian Sane. The "N5" has a certain ring to it. I don't see Nintendo keeping the "GameCube" name, especially since the Cube was not as successful as they had hoped it would be.

The number theory that some have suggested actually makes a lot of sense, which is why Microsoft should not call their next console the "X-Box2".

"N5" is simple and bit mysterious. I hope they come up with a killer design for the machine, something elegant. Although, Nintendo seems to like gimmicks - I just hope the new console is not in the shape of a number "5" HAHAHA.

Nintendo Gaming / Being online isn't worth it. . .
« on: July 11, 2003, 05:33:29 AM »
As a GameCube owner, I am not particularly interested in playing on-line. Although I would like to have the option available should I ever choose to purchase a Broadband adaptor for the Cube, since playing on-line sounds better to me than finding someone else that owns a GameCube and playing via a LAN connection. If only 5% of PS2 owners and 3% of X-Box owners are taking advantage of their machine's on-line capabilities, that tells me that all of the hype surrounding on-line gameplay is just that...HYPE.

I don't know, maybe it's just my age (I'm 27).
