I just noticed that in my play history RE:UC is listed as "Others". Weird.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii Question
« on: November 15, 2007, 04:23:16 AM »
Um...The Forecast and News Channels were there on launch day, but weren't activated until the proper Wii system updates were issued in December 2006 and January 2007. I'd assume the channels will be there on a new Wii, but might require firmware updates to become active, depending on when the console was manufactured.

I picked this up yesterday as an impulse buy. I'm pleasantly surprised and am really liking it. If you are a Resident Evil fan and hated the controls of RE0-3 you should definitely give "The Umbrella Chronicles" a try. I'm liking it much more than I though I would.

The $34.99 is from Circuit City's "Black Friday" ad (11/23/07).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: My Wii sounds like R2-D2. Normal or not?
« on: November 08, 2007, 01:37:40 PM »
The low pitched "beeps" are normal. I just sent my Wii in for servicing yesterday due to a loud "buzzing" noise the drive would make any time a disc was spinning.

Awesome. I was looking forward to this game and I totally forget it came out a few weeks ago.

FYI - To everyone who pre-ordered Super Mario Galaxy at GameStop - check with your store.

I received a phone call from GameStop's automated system on Tuesday night but didn't bother to answer the phone. After reading this morning about Best Buy breaking the street date I decided to call my local store to see if they could tell me I would receive a phone call one week early. I was told that Super Mario Galaxy pre-orders are in stock and available for immediate pick-up and come with a bonus collectible SMG coin.

He also stressed this is for pre-orders only and regular sales of the game won't start until Monday (the 12th).

Unfortunately, my Wii is on it's way to NOA for repair and I won't have it back until late next week. I might have to borrow a Wii from a friend this weekend.

**Edit** It was a lie. I got to GameStop and was told the phone calls were for the Pre-Order Bonus "Collectible Super Mario Galaxy Coins" and that those will be given out on Tuesday when people come in to pick-up their pre-orders. Too bad I didn't remember the punk's name that I had spoken with earlier. The store manager was pissed when I told him about it

According to VGChartz.com, the Wii version came in 2nd (and the PS2 version sold more than twice as many as the PS3 version)...

1. Guitar Hero III (360) - 798,671
2. Guitar Hero III (Wii) - 271,053
3. Guitar Hero III (PS2) - 254,596
4. Wii Sports
5. Guitar Hero III (PS3) - 113,040

Did they repair your Wii or send you a brand-new one? I opted to send it in for repair because I didn't want to lose any of my Virtual Console games. Also, I find it complete bullsh*t that some game save data is forbidden from being backed-up to an SD card (ie. Guitar Hero III and most VC save fiels).

Well technically if you registered your Wii at nintendo.com you have an extra 3 months on the warranty. So make that Feb 19, 2008 for expiration of the warranty.

For whatever reason, I was under the impression that those additional 3 months extended the warranty to one year, not 15 months. That's good to know though. Thanks.

I wish I could be excited but my Wii is packed-up and ready to ship to Nintendo tomorrow for servicing. This means that I won't get to play Super Mario Galaxy until late next week at the earliest when my Wii is sent back to me.

My drive has been making a constant "buzzing" sound anytime a disc is spinning. It first started when I bought Guitar Hero III last week. The drive is probably going bad (I've never had any luck with slot-loading drives) so I figured I might as well contact Nintendo and get it taken care of under warranty before it expires on the 19th.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Guitar Hero Launch Day?
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:25:18 AM »
Nintendo already has a storage solution - SD cards. Right now though, the SD card slot is just a waste of space. The official status of GH3 DLC for the Wii is "TBA". It was never ruled out, but at this point there is only a 50/50 chance of it ever happening. It really all depends on what Nintendo is willing to allow developers and publishers to do with DLC on the Wii.

Nintendo WFC is an archaic, backwards service. Requiring friend codes for each game that you want to play with your friends is redundant. It completely undermines the purpose of having a code for the Wii itself. I'm under the impression that we will not get the DLC because of Nintendo's stubbornness to implement a friendlier on-line atmosphere.

So last night, I finally decided to try out the Guitar Hero 3 on-line multiplayer via Nintendo WFC. I played a random stranger. Now since I basically such at GH, I selected "easy". Now this is where my rant comes in...This scumbag was obviously an "expert", hitting 99% on every song we played (I average around 90%). Why do people do this? I know they are looking for an easy way to move up the leaderboards, but still - it's not right. I got my ass handed to me by someone who was too good to be bothering with someone on "easy" difficulty.

I played through the first two levels (about 1 hour into the game). So far, I'm diggin' it. It seems to living up to it's hype and I actually like the way they have altered the kill sequences to appease the ESRB. The new effects seem to work in the game's by favor giving it a sense of "style". You still see the "kills", but through a bunch of different angles and tricks which don't give you a clear look at what's going on. If you didn't know the game was edited, you would never be able to tell.

My only complaint is that there doesn't appear to be any way to control the camera (it moves as you move). Ideally, a game like this should allow you to control the camera in a similar way as EA did for The Godfather: Blackhand Edition. It hasn't been a problem yet - but I just know that sooner or later the lack of camera control will become an issue.

Dude - that sucks. I just sold my 360 Wireless Adapter last week (I bought a Buffalo wireless bridge and have my 360 connected to that now). If I had known, I would have offered it to you.

How much did you get the wireless gaming bridge for, since I don't want to spend 100 dollars on a stupid USB dongle again?

$80 @ Circuit City (pretty much the same price everywhere), but it supports up to 4 devices. I had bought it for my Toshiba HD-A2 (HD DVD player) and figured it was kind of pointless to have spent $80 on just that one connection. I decided to try the 360 on it and found that it connected to live noticeably faster via the bridge. Then I hopped onto Craig's List and sold the 360 adapter for $60.

Heroes is a fun show and if you like sci-fi/superhero type characters you'll definitely want to check it out. The show looks amazing in HD - better than any TV series ought to look IMHO. When I bought my A2 back in February, the mail-in offer was only for 3 HD DVDs and the selection was rather dismal. The latest promo offers a much better variety to choose from.

I'd go for the 360. Get the 20GB ($350 bundle) unless you plan on downloading a lot of movies. I've found that storing music as MP3s on a flash drive is much more convenient than ripping CDs to the 360's hard drive (which can also take up a lot of space) so really, the 20GB drive is more than enough for game saves, XBLA games, demos, themes and gamer pics. Also, HDMI cables can be had for less than $30 now-a-days at a lot of stores including Wal-Mart and Best Buy. The component cable which comes with the system is great and also provides a digital output for audio (via optical).

I'd also recommend jumping on the 360 HD DVD add-on this week @ Best Buy, even if you have to do it before you buy your 360 - the deal is just too good to pass-up (Heroes - Season 1 plus 2 free movies with any HD DVD player at the point of purchase in addition to the 5 free via Toshiba's mail-in offer and King Kong which is included free in the box with the 360 add-on). I would have bought it myself, but I already own an HD DVD player (Toshiba HD-A2) and I have Heroes - Season 1 & King Kong in my HD DVD collection.

Awesome. I hope Atlus puts the NES original on the Wii Virtual Console to coincide with the new DS game. I still play the GBA version on my DS from time-to-time.
