"For those of you who don't have the zelda collecter's disc, the cube controller SUCKS when it comes to playing 2D games."

I have a Gameboy Player and find that more comfortable than using a Gameboy (which is part of the reason I never got one, god bless the DS).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo sucks at marketing and PR
« on: December 14, 2005, 06:23:29 PM »
The badness of Nintendo's marketing is severely exaggerated.  The vast majority of their commercials are really good.  They just need more gameplay footage and they need the word of mouth/cool factor going for them.

And I've been seeing many more DS ads than PSP ads.  I've seen many Nintendo ads offhand on public televisions around campus, because I hardly watch TV.

It'd be great if Showtime picked it up.  It hosts the kind of audience that would watch it and appreciate it, and while I wouldn't be able to watch it on a weekly basis (except maybe downloading), I could buy the DVDs.  All I want is to make sure they keep making it.

Yeah, it's not like you're going to be playing online on a road trip or something.  You play it in your house, maybe at a hotspot.

"Otherwise I swear Perm was on LCD or PCP, Acid and angel dust all in one inhaler"

This would have been even funnier if you'd said LCD or PSP.

I imagine there will be ads that depict people playing with the Revmote (probably the majority of ads), and a few with the shell.  Some of them might feature the download system, where you can use the shell or the sideways remote, and advertise the shell concept along with it.

Ah yeah.  I've only ever seen it played, so I tend to forget about the control scheme.
Still, no excuse for putting it on PSP and not DS.  Also, no one should have even thought about putting Okami on the PS2.  It was made for DS.  Or better, Revolution.

So it's good, eh?  I wasn't sure it would be, what with all the focus on war scenes.  I'm used to trailers being misleading, though, so I was still intending to see it.  Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got to see this and King Kong.  That'll be good enough for the holidays, I think.

I'm with Artimus on this one, though Sonic 2 does rank on my top list of awesomest games ever.
And they've done other good stuff, too.  But not enough to merit the hype they bring with them.

Absolutely.  And Okami, which I may get a PS2 just to play.

Lots of good stuff.  I feel the winners were picked based on artistic merit (which I guess is somewhat fair), but I did like the package one.  The plumber one had a good style and a mediocre idea behind it.
Infernal should have easily won for funny.

My idea, though uncompleted, was Samus being motherly and breast-feeding a Metroid, with disastrous results.  Anyway, I wasn't sure how to depict breast-feeding (how would she do that with the suit?) so I just let it go.

I think the amount of accessories is being over-analyzed.  They'll have the nunchuck and the shell, but most people (if not everyone) will have both of those.  I doubt others will be much more numerous than stuff like bongos or dance pads.
And some of them will probably be optional, like a gun add-on for more realism in terms of tactility.

"It didn't back in 1985."

Okay.  So what about Katamari Damacy, GTA, games like that?  They're far from what we see in stuff like RE4 or Metroid Prime, but they're still very high-selling games.

I've definitely considered the unhappy ending possibility.  It seems quite likely, but it'll be interesting to see where they take it.
I don't think he should have said what happened to Koholint.  I know it's an old  game, but that's an incredible ending.

Really, Zelda games have always been very bittersweet and tragic.  While Link usually saves the world (though sometimes, like in Link's Awakening, you wonder how valid your victory is), he very seldom gets any recognition for it.  He leaves Termina, in Wind Waker he prevents the danger before it occurs (and hardly anyone knows), in OoT the danger he stopped never happened.  He's always alone.
This one will just be a little more desperate and hopeless, a bit more obviously tragic (though Nintendo always handles subtlety really, REALLY well, so I think it'll be very well done).

It's less about what Nintendo has done wrong and more about what Sony, as a corporation, has done right.  It's cool to own PS2, and that's all there is to it. Nintendo hasn't made any more mistakes than Sony (neither had worthwhile online support, for example), but Sony is still in the lead.  Due to marketing and word of mouth.

I like how everyone exaggerates to make a point, but the Rev will only have a slight difference in graphics, at best.  Don't get caught up in hypotheticals, remember that we're talking about the Revolution.
Also, Super Mario 1 had terrible graphics but was a landmark and a great game.

"We basically have an NES controller with motion control. Nintendo's taking a step forward after taking three steps back."

Wow, that's stunningly idiotic.  How is providing the next step toward completely immersive games (which will have NO buttons at all) taking three steps back?  I fail to recognize the correlation.  Would adding twelve buttons to the controller be a more reasonable solution, making games even more complex and alienating?  Further running the moronic "gamer" perspective deeper into the ditch it's dug itself into?

The only reason we had controllers and buttons in the first place is because we weren't capable of providing immersive technology.
