How do you access the border controls? I would like to shrink it if possible -- the ring of fruit around the screen is very distracting.

I thought the E3 demo was pretty boring. Maybe they should start to show the really cool and exciting parts.

After Chinatown Wars bombed on DS, I don't think Rockstar wants anything to do with Wii.

Great point, Sundoulos. I probably didn't think to mention Dragon Quest X because it's still such a mystery.

We'll be discussing Yoshi's Story (N64) for RFN RetroActive #14. Please use this thread for on-topic discussion of the game, which is available on Virtual Console for 1000 Wii Points. Tentatively, the RFN crew is scheduled to discuss this game on Episode 215, with the option to read additional comments from this forum thread on a later episode. Any post in this thread may be selected to be read on the show, especially if it helps frame or supplement the RFN crew's discussion.

Note: After discussing it with the other guys, we decided to reschedule this on-air discussion to Episode 215 in order to give more time for playing the game and for this thread to develop.

Due to the nature of the game, we will probably streamline the on-air Yoshi's Story discussion to a single week, with the option to read some additional forum comments the next week.

I need to check the last time we did a second-chance poll, but I think that may be coming up next. After that, I'm pretty sure we'll do DS. It'll be a nice way to say "goodbye" to that system before 3DS takes over the world. Eventually, I would like to do WiiWare.

Yoshi's Story is the winner! Thank you very much to everyone who voted. Tentatively, we'll plan to discuss the game on Episode 214, so start now if you want to play along. I'll create a separate thread for Yoshi's Story discussion.

Personally, I'm a little surprised by this result (originally thought Banjo, Ogre Battle, or Perfect Dark might win), but I'm also excited to play this game for the first time. It seems like a good fit for RetroActive: overlooked, somewhat controversial, and thankfully, not too long! ;-) It's also a neat tie-in with Kirby's Epic Yarn.

For those wondering about how the voting progressed, it was a virtual three-way tie for the first week or so, with Yoshi slowly pulling into the lead over the second week. Since there's a tie for second-place, both Ogre Battle 64 and Perfect Dark will return in our second-chance poll, which should be coming up very soon.

Stratos, here are some helpful tips for your sister:

- Don't publicize that she is your sister.
- Don't publicize that she is 12 years old.
- Don't publicize that she is female.

Then she'll have a good time on the forums!

I'm interested in whether this means 3DS owners will be able to browse and shop DSiWare, outside of transferring purchases. I never got a DSi but would like to download some of those games.

TalkBack / Re: Sonic 4: Episode 1 Price and Release Date Announced
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:29:22 AM »
I have no problem with standalone $15 downloads, but it seems a little high considering the game's episodic format. Of course, we don't yet know how long each episode will be. Sonic 4 didn't really impress back at E3, but then they delayed it to supposedly shore up the game's quality, so we'll see.

I agree with yoshi. My impression from playing the first game is that there wasn't strong enough audio/visual feedback on whether you are playing the song right or wrong.

They should just patch it online or let people email their save files. I guess the mail-in option is okay as a backup for certain people, but there are so many ways to address this problem digitally without involving the freaking post office.

The results are extremely close right now. I think this is probably the most even field we've ever had.

That's what was said in the last poll, only to find out in the end when Mother 3 won by a landslide that the previous comment was less than honest (as admitted to in a post after the results were posted).  I made the mistake of believing you last time.  Not this time though.  :cool;

If you're accusing me of lying, and then claiming that I confessed to it, please provide links to those posts. I don't recall either such incident. I have no reason to mislead anyone when it comes to these polls. If I wanted to influence the results that much, I would just rig the vote or select the game myself to begin with. I honestly want it to be a democratic process. Hell, I don't even vote myself because I have too much knowledge of the vote counts.

I think the MotionPlus feature will be the same, but I'm curious to see if they improve anything else about the Wii Remote, like battery life or speaker quality or pointer fidelity. This is the first revision of the controller in four years.

Okay, I might actually buy this thing now. Comes with awesome new controller and the game is basically really cheap due to the bundle.

To clarify, I think you can smartly incorporate motion controls into 2D platformers. Both NSMBWii and Kirby use tilt controls for certain mechanics. I also like the pointer stuff in both Galaxy games. What I don't like is shaking the controller when a button press would be just as good -- the very definition of "waggle" -- and that's what Retro is doing in DKC Returns.

I will remain skeptical about this game until we have confirmation that standard controls (probably on the Classic Controller) are going to be available. Waggle has no place in this kind of exacting 2D platform gameplay. It was not only distracting but counterproductive in the E3 demo. I understand that Nintendo may want to highlight motion controls as part of their marketing strategy to families, but some of us would like to play the game without accidentally rolling into pits because the motion trigger doesn't register at the right moment.

Great news! I'm not familiar with these arcade games but look forward to learning more about them. I wish Capcom would focus on their SNES catalogue.
