Nintendo Gaming / A guaranteed success formula for Nintendo
« on: February 21, 2003, 09:21:28 AM »
Stex, Mario IS an RPG, because you are playing the role of him in a platforming game. That is pretty much an RPG to me. Same with Zelda. You are playing Link in another platforming adventure game.

Sorry if you don´t agree. But this is what an RPG is to me.

Nintendo Gaming / A success formula for Nintendo
« on: February 21, 2003, 06:49:20 AM »
Here is something I thought of:

Forum member, Cubist writes-

"the "lack of caring" you speak of doesn't exist. No one had a better showing than Nintendo's booth. Period. I've stated this once on similar threads and I'll state it again, who cares what attracts the mainstream gamer! The "lack of caring" should be targeted at the mainstream gamer because they're stuck on the "kiddie" image facade."

Forum member, Kai next writes-

"But there are people who are just buying a cube who don't understand the appeal of games like SMS. They are adult gamers who have bought the cube to play Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness, and Nintendo could do worse than throw some extra games their way. Nintendo need a great new RPG, FPS, or Survival Horror, with an epic story-line (please, the cartoon graphics and simplistic story behind TS2 are great, but not what I'm referrring to)".

I must say that I agree that it is the mainstream gamers who don´t care. Not Nintendo. But I also think that they aren´t caring enough, mind! Not to say they aren´t doing all they can. They are. But it all lies in their attitude (read below)...

And yes, I agree that Nintendo needs a great new RPG with that epic story line which will if properly advertised will attract a lot of gamers from the other platforms. Nintendo are the only company in the world who can make RPG´s up around the level of Mario64 and OOT. So what else do you think they can make!

They should be aggressively pursuing making one great sequel after the next of great games, great RPG´s and not change them too much from the originals. Then keep on doing that and never stop it! Gamers everywhere will be happy. Maybe Nintendo never really has woken up from the attitude of being satisfied with where they are, instead of thinking where they could be going!

They are the Gods of gaming and can basically create what they want to. But do they want it? Do they want to go where they could be?

Continue to make the quality games with that "Nintendo seal of Quality" they are so famous for, and then increase the releases of such games so that they keep delivering them to the market in all the time increasing numbers - and the mainstream gamers will once again see them as cool enough to match the PS2 or XBOX. I remember those PSX gamers saying they chose that machine over Nintendo 64 because "it had more games". So what if Nintendo had more quality games than the competition had games combined (including 2. and 3. party games of course)? They can do all that without compromising either quality or finances. They really can.

The competition is going to look kind of lame in comparison.

Before, Nintendo had too few first part titles, only now they are starting to change. Well, that should include many more RPG´s which Nintendo has proven themselves to be so good at making. There is still too few of those around right now.

Who can beat flooding the market with quality RPG´s and advertise them properly and constantly, as compared to flooding the market with commercials for something that isn´t half as good as claimed (PS2, XBOX titles mostly)? Hey, empty barrels make the most noise don´t they? So Ninty should go right ahead and just deliver those sought after RPG´s with all the other games they´re so good at. Drastically widen their gaming platform. Get that more aggressive as many Forum members have already requested. Silence the noise from those empty barrels, and knock them sideways with giant Dodongo cavern boulders literally rolling them flat! Nintendo gave SONY a far too easy time. Let them get away with too much. This could stop if Nintendo does the above.

No daydreaming. Just how it will be if they want it. They are the best in the world, so they gotta take advantage of it!

Just widen that 1. party platform significantly, advertise it and go!

Once again then it will be profitable for developers to make games for the GCN as the wide selection of cutting edge RPG´s and other games from Ninty will attract gameplay hungry gamers and make many more buy the machine. People will be able to tell the difference, from what else is available on the market.

They just gotta let the world know they´ve changed, advertise properly and keep doing it. Find deals with companies who get something else in return to advertise the GCN for them, and they could lower the cost of promotion a lot.

I think that is a guaranteed success formula that is going to work from day one!

Prove me wrong! But I think you can´t!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo is doing all they can, so stop the noise!

"But they're not at that #2 spot yet here in North America, and they have a very long way to go for the #1 spot. If they can only shed their "#2's good enough" mantra and start accepting nothing less than #1, like MS has been doing since before launch, they'll really sore and will finally move into position to reclaim the top spot."

You´re right Mouse_clicker! Nintendo should accept no less than the top spot. This kind of motivation would also have them behave far more aggressive, hopefully without compromising their first party titles. Then we will have loads of games to play from both 1., 2. and 3. party line and people will finally wake up and see quality over quantity.

Actually, I think this is what will eventually happen. But maybe not until the next generation.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo is doing all they can, so stop the noise!

Forum member, Mario, just started a serious discussion about where Nintendo is right now saleswise from the perspective of the latest sales charts. Why all this focus on the international sales charts and bemoaning them? Hell, Rome wasn´t built in a day. Neither will Nintendo´s future success. Nintendo is well on it´s way to regain the top of the videogame market. They just need to keep going and keep putting out quality titles. Correct their past mistakes, and keep going from there.

One of their past mistakes was evident on the N64. Too few or no sequels to the best games.

On the GBA you get sequel upon sequel upon sequel of the same games franchises, game-sequels that stay true to their respective prequels. And the GBA hardware and software sells in mega bucket loads!! People get to play their favourite games in constantly released new incarnations again and again (I owned two GBA already so I know what I talk about as I have seen the selection of games available). Now, look over on the PS2! Here we have the same phenomenon: sequels upon sequels of beloved franchises pumped out in a never ending succession. People are happy. People are buying.

This was lacking on the N64. And so Nintendo promises us it will be different with the GameCube.

But, as I have pointed out before in the previous forum, the one before this latest NEW FORUM, Nintendo should be carefull with what they do from now on so they don´t go and experiment too much but stay faithfull to the games make up that is a proven success, like Mario 64 and Zelda 64. These games set the standard for the whole games market in all the future. And they were million sellers. That is what Nintendo needs. But even if Super Mario Sunshine sells a crap load of games, which it apparently isn´t at the moment, there is still a lot of people who will agree with me that it is nowhere near as great as Mario 64. The textures are mostly plain ugly, and it is too difficult. Many many people the viewpoints of whose I have read many places agree to this.

Spong.com is one of them. In their view (notice that I didn´t copy and paste that from that website, but you can go and check it for yourself on that website under "Games of the year - the dissapointments")!

As I also stated previously EDGE said somewhat the same in their Super Mario Sunshine issue review, and CUBE magazine in the VIEWPOINT section of their most recent issue agrees with a reader that Nintendo has recently dissapointed with their main franchises, also stating however that Nintendo ws going to make up for it with the new 2003 selection of games.

Miyamoto can make any sequel as great as that if he wants to! And astound the world yet again! Get Nintendo where his Nintendo wants to be!

Nintendo can´t afford to dissapoint gamers anylonger. As the current situation goes they did dissapoint a lot of gamers with SMS. So Miyamoto-san listened and is making a new Mario which will purportedly be easier.

Great, we are getting to where we need to be: sequel upon sequel upon sequel....

Word of mouth travels fast! All the way over to all those PS2 gamers who once owned an N64! The ones Ninty want so bad.

So let´s trust in what Ninty is doing. Trust that they will not dissapoint us with the GameCube. And support them.

I´ll give it a shot!

Here´s to brighter (Nintendo) future!!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo and sonic
« on: February 16, 2003, 09:20:03 AM »
Nintendo can´t own Sonic, as it is a SEGA franchise and vital to the very existence of that company. Period.

Advice: Don´t listen too much to rumours. Take them lightly and instead do back up research on your own.

Nintendo Gaming / More developers drop the GCN: and so what?
« on: February 15, 2003, 09:08:57 AM »
Sigh...

Just went over on cube-europe.com and got the news that CodeMasters drops support for the GameCube. This means we get no Colin McRae Rally 3. SEGA drops all their sports titles for GameCube, and Electronic Arts are considering similar action. Funny how this reminds me of the whole Dreamcast saga. There was also so many developers who dropped support for that little wonderfull machine, with Electronic Arts even promising that they were going to "destroy the Dreamcast". Well, they succeeded on that one. Yeah, I´ll never forget that. Still think the Dreamcast is one of the greatest and most beautifull consoles ever invented. So is the GameCube. And now people have been talking for months if not it could be that the GCN would go the way of the DC...

Not a chance!

It´s funny how CodeMasters were among the very first to drop the support for the Dreamcast, not giving us Colin McRae Rally 2 as promised. And how many other companies followed shortly after that with projects canned. Is there a kind of conspiracy going on here?

SEGA and Nintendo are the two greatest gaming companies on this Earth, so maybe little Codies got jealous? Maybe same with EA? To be honest, I don´t like either of these two, and for this reason I don´t worry about them too much. This is the second time that Codies promise- and subsequently drops support for a platform. This is also the second time that EA is making similar rumblings. In my opinion it is simply immoral to go and promise something and halfway into developement they just can it. This is a huge offence, a slap in the face of gamers that they don´t deserve. SEGA can be forgiven for their course of action regarding the sports titles. Their finances aren´t too good. Not so with the other two.

And all this just because the GCN is doing poorly at present. It´s no real excuse. There´s more to it,  and I have suggested above what I think it is. Yes, I am suspicious because the exact same thing happened with the Dreamcast. Don´t know if executives from EA and Codies meet over Coffee or a Buffe and make "plans".  "Go and buy an X-BOX or PS2" they may say. I say: "Not in a million years!" At least not to play any of their crappy games (Colin McRae 3 was awfull)!! Yeah, I do get tired when someone does this kind of stuff twice.

But if they really want to also go and destroy Nintendo, they can forget all about it. Nintendo will always survive ("the day we exit the consolemaking business, is the day we exit the videogame business" - said they!). What worries me instead, is that others may follow after them and abandon the GCN "because they did it". Not that this is a huge problem either, as Nintendo makes unique titles that the competition can never make and continues to innovate, but it´s an annoying trend since it hurts us gamers as it means a longer wait between titles released.

So maybe I find comfort in the knowledge that Nintendo is forming it´s own alliances now (SEGA doing the same - with Sammy) with Triforce and with new software agreements looming over the horizon. So they won´t have to rely on uncertain developers anymore. MEGATON anyone?

So nomatter how things may be looking now, this is all set to lighten up in the next consolewar where Nintendo will be ready...

So until then let´s not bury our heads in grief, but trust in our favourite games company.

Nintendo has awesome potential, and they´re going to use it to succeed again one day. Bad karma always returns to the offenders (if any).

"Who digs a grave for others...fall...into it...themselves (hehe)!" That is so true.
