Just got confirmation from Jonny in radio trivia that there is no DVD this year. So sad.

TalkBack / The X is for Fox Box
« on: May 19, 2003, 08:44:35 PM »
Fox Box is a 2 hr (?) block of shows on Saturday morning on Fox. Not WB or anything like that, just plain Fox. The same one that shows Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, Bernie Mac Show, etc.

TalkBack / Triton Labs Announces Stealth Link
« on: May 19, 2003, 08:26:16 PM »
Would be nice if Nintendo made a cordless link cable from the Cube to GBA since they are pushing connectivity so much. It would make games like the new Pac-Man easier to swap controllers, and wouldn't keep having to sit up on the edge of the couch to read the GBA screen since the cord won't reach.

Nintendo Gaming / What's this? Demo Disc only with purchase of GCN?
« on: May 19, 2003, 03:08:26 PM »
I just got this reply back from Nintendo:

Subject: Gamecube Preview Disc

To whom it may concern;
When I first heard of the preview disc coming out on May 19th I was
very excited. I would be going to get the opportunity to play some early
versions of games to come as well as show them to my friends whom do not
have a Gamecube. But now I have heard that it will only be allowed to
persons whom are purchasing a new system. This frustrated and confused
me.
I feel that this is the exact opposite action to do in Nintendo's
position. For Nintendo to move farther ahead of Microsoft in the number
2 position, it must get word out with what is coming in every feasible
way. One of these ways is with the pre mentioned preview disc. With a
larger user-base, there is a larger incentive for third-parties to make
games. For instance, many people do not know or believe that Tom
Clancy's Splinter Cell, which is made by Ubi Soft who is a third party
developer, is out on all platforms now because of Microsoft's time
exclusivity they had on it for six months. Other potential Gamecube
owners looking for the game will go directly for the Xbox or Playstation
2 since there has been marketing directly for those platforms by each
respective company.
But by getting the preview disc out which have the playable demos of
games, it can show that the Gamecube is just as good as the others with
comparable, identical, and better games. Many "casual gamers" are more
concerned with image than having games that are fun like The Legend of
Zelda: The Wind Waker. With gaming today, there is only so much that can
be said versus actually playing a game to describe it. The Wind Waker is
a prime example of this. Mr. Miyamoto consistently talked about waiting
until playing the game before making judgments. Most people would agree
that he was correct.
I do hope that this recent decision will be reevaluated and the
decision to have the disc as a separate optional purchase is made. There
are no negative side affects to this promotion. The Gamecube's quality
games will be better advertised because more people will be able to talk
about or show the games to others. There would not be any more loss of
revenues to Nintendo because more people would be able to purchase them.
I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Please take these
considerations carefully, it could greatly help the image of the
Gamecube and could bring in many more Nintendo product owners.

This sucks, none of the stores around here have them much less even heard of them. I have tried EB Games, Circuit City, and Target.

« on: May 17, 2003, 07:11:31 PM »
Yes this was also mentioned in nintnendo's press converence. Very encouraging. Just saw new commercial today also, same "free game" style as the last one but this time customer is getting Zelda.

TalkBack / Buy a GameCube, get the Game Boy Player FREE
« on: May 16, 2003, 06:12:02 AM »
Now the cube has a larger library than the PS2, even if the games aren't directly running on it. 1500 or so total games for both systems, just makes the deal all that more interesting for people who don't own it yet.

Nintendo Gaming / The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker General Help
« on: May 15, 2003, 08:53:24 PM »
I am in Ganon's tower. I did the puzzle with the lanterns on one side and lighting the jewels on the other to open the portal to the surface. But what do I do after that? The door with Ganon's face on it still won't open. Is there something I need to do on the surface at that castle?

Nintendo Gaming / Geist: Coolest game style ever!
« on: May 15, 2003, 12:38:29 AM »
An employee of N-Space made some comments on the IGN boards. He said that the demo build at E3 is real old. They are much farther along, that they have a ways to go,  that they are making huge breakthroughs, and he is imrpessed with their progress each week. His name there is Bolt007 if anyone is interested.

I just finished listening to an interview with Hideo Kojima and he said that the game is essentially MGS1 but with MGS2 gameplay mechanics and such.

I just read the same thing being reported at CGA. They are reporting that it supports up to 8 cubes. That mean 32 people? I didn't think Nintendo had that many characters to put into the game. Also I read at IGN that the same character can't be used more than once which makes it all the more interesting.

According to an article at cube-europe.com, in another press conference concerning this game they clarified where it is coming from. Supposedly, they are trying to combine MGS and MGS 2 together into one game. Two games in one, awesome.

NWR Feedback / Q: Will PGC do a DVD/VHS for this years E3?
« on: May 13, 2003, 01:39:18 AM »
I just watched most of the dvd from last year to help wet my appetite and remembered that it was Adam Kontras who worked on it. But he is no longer a part of the staff. I was thinking of getting the official e32003 dvd also to supplement the GC/GBA only coverage from here. Heres fingers crossed that the dvd is still coming.

Anyone notice the Gamecube sitting on the table about 3/4 thru the video? It is just sitting there by itself, no cords or anything hooked to it.

General Gaming / Airport X-Rays & Carry Case
« on: May 12, 2003, 10:26:41 PM »
I rencently went on a plane trip way back in January. As far as laptops are concerned, they just have to be out of their carrying case. Since the Cube doesn't have the same electronically sensitive parts it should be ok. The memory cards should be ok also since it is the same as putting a digital camera card through the x-ray machine which I did and my card worked perfectly afterwards.
