It's an explosive adventure, dood.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53964/prinny-12-exploded-and-reloaded-spawning-on-switch-october-13

The sacrifical lambs known as Prinnies will be invading the Switch this fall in a compilation of action games.

Prinny 1+2: Exploded and Reloaded is a remastered compilation of games launching on October 13. The original games, Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero and Prinny: Dawn Of Operation Panties, Dood were released on the PlayStation Portable in 2009 and 2011 respectively.

The two games are action-focused platformers that involve the Disgaea series mascot attempting to survive to complete tasks for the dark lord Etna. A side mode is available in both games that stars unofficial Nippon Ichi Software mascot Asagi.

Normally there'd be a big honking sale this week in North America but who knows now.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53955/nintendo-downloads-june-11-2020

Nobody usually releases games in the second week of June because unless your game gets shadowdropped on Treehouse Live or something, it used to be highly overshadowed by the late E3. (See: ARMS.) Even without the ex-show this year, the original planned week is still quite quiet: the big game our indie fans are looking out for is House Flipper, which hits Friday.

Simulation seems to be the name of the game this week as the other sim game is Magazine Mogul, which might be the most difficult Kairosoft sim game yet. Cosmic Defenders, the first game in Natsume's indie publishing program that I happened to play a year ago to the week (hi Anna!) comes out on Thursday as well. Europe got a major third party sale last week, and I'm watching with bated breath and credit card to see if something similar hits for North America.

Foreign shores see Japan get The Wonderful 101 Remastered, which should hopefully outsell the original Wii U in that territory in about ten minutes.

We'd probably get a season that looked like the 2011-12 lockout year: 66 games, starts at Christmas.

1205
Looks like the proposal is the 22-teamer.

Any team within 6 games of a playoff spot - 13 West, 9 East - will play out 8 games in Orlando, then the standard playoffs would follow (in the same site). If the 8 and 9 finish within four games of each other at the end of the season, there'd be a best-of-3 play-in series. Non-bubble teams would be playing for seeding.

Playoffs would start in August and the finals would be in October.

TalkBack / Our Complete List Of Not-Quite E3 Digital Events To Watch
« on: June 07, 2020, 05:29:00 AM »

Not all of the reveals will be Switch games, but some of them have to be - right? UPDATED

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/sitenews/53891/our-complete-list-of-not-quite-e3-digital-events-to-watch

Normally this kind of post would be reserved for telling you all about our plans for E3 2020, but due to *gestures wildly* that won't be happening this year. Instead, here's the list of events that we'll be keeping an eye on over the coming weeks as third party announcement season has stretched into July now.

Also, some of these dates are subject to change. One item we were going to track has already been delayed to TBA, and another that was going to start Friday is now due to kick off on Monday.

IGN Summer Of Games

Dates: June 10 - 16

Probability of Switch announcements: See below.

Kicking off on Wednesday is IGN's extended announcement session that will blow you away (ign.com). Although largely focused on the "8K twins", there could be Switch announcements as it stands now from Merge Games (a new game and a classic revival), Fabraz (the Slime-San devs will be showing a new game), and up to four unannounced games. And if you just want to veg out there's a celebrity Animal Crossing: New Horizons showcase on the 16th.

Dates to watch: 10th (4:45pm ET), 11th (5:15pm ET), 15th (3:30pm ET), 16th (2pm ET)

The Escapist Indie Showcase

Date: June 11, 12 p.m. ET

Probability of Switch Announcements: Moderate

The Escapist and PC store Good Old Games (GOG to the cool kids) are teaming up for two hours of indie releases including gameplay and dev diaries. Given the sponsorship there's probably going to be a lot of PC, but at least some of it will work its way to Switch eventually.

Guerrilla Collective

Dates: June 13 - 15

Probability Of Switch Announcements: Moderate

Hosted by Greg Miller (Kinda Funny Games) and put on by the folks who run the Mix party at E3, Guerrilla Collective is a Saturday -> Monday event that will kick off each day at 1 p.m. ET for three days on Twitch. Although largely PC focused, their list of presenters includes such friends of the Switch as Sega, Humble Bundle, Thunderful, Headup Games, and Nightdive Interactive.

Future Games Show

Date: June 6 13, 5:30 p.m. ET

Probability of Switch Announcements: Mild

GamesRadar and their publisher Future will be throwing a digital shindig that will be hosted by the Uncharted series power couple of Emily Rose and Nolan North. Promising "a number of exclusive trailers and announcements from the most exciting upcoming titles of 2020 and beyond", it's hard to say if there'll be anything Switch there but we'll be watching with interest.

EA Play Live

Date: June 11 18, 7 p.m. ET

Probability of Switch Announcements: Aside from FIFA 21 Legacy Edition?

EA actually has a Switch game coming out eight days after their annual show that usually kicks off E3, but don't count on Burnout Paradise Remastered showing up again beyond a commercial break. Their support for Switch has been limited, but they did say in a recent earnings call that they do want to give more support, so... maybe...?

New Game Plus Expo

Date: June 23, 11 a.m. ET

Probability of Switch Announcements: Guaran-bloody-teed.

There's at least one person on the site for whom this is basically their E3 replacement. A majority of Switch-supporting Japanese developers (along with WayForward) are doing an hour presentation followed by seven hours of game streams. Sega fans will probably recognize the date as an important anniversary in the Western history of that company, and Atlus may look to strike while the iron is hot, but at least one staffer is hoping for two of the other publishers (Spike Chunsoft and NIS America) to make a deal and not leave them in ultimate despair. More on this later.

BitSummit Gaiden

Dates: Overnight June 26-27 (or June 27-28 Japan time)

Probability of Switch Announcements: Guaranteed, though localization is a question.

The BitSummit expo, also known as the one trade show our Daan Koopman was going to this year, is shifting online and bringing a host of Japanese indie game announcements with it. Inti Creates usually is good for a couple of announcements here as well if they don't blow it out on Tuesday.

Anime Expo Online

Dates: July 3-4

Probability of Switch Announcements: High

No mistake here (aside from anime itself): Anime Expo usually brings a surprising number of announcements from Japanese pubs (Bandai Namco, come on down). Also, the key art for the show prominently features The World Ends With You. At worst, it's an anime.adaptation, but maybe it's another shot at redemption for the most disappointing game of 2018.

Limited Run Games Presentation

Date: July 8, 3 p.m. ET

Probability of Switch Announcements: If not, Donald will eat a hat.

The third annual tribute to the physical cartridge will undoubtedly feature some previously digital-only indie titles getting the LRG release treatment - but as a publisher themselves, they're also likely to show a new game or two. They've also revealed games coming to Switch for the first time like Cosmic Star Heroine and Dust: An Elysian Tale, and may actually show a 3DS game during the presentation as well if last year's is any indication. Since last year they've also hired Jeremy Parish (of Retronauts fame) for additional background on any stray retro reproductions they may announce.

Ubisoft Forward

Date: July 12, 3 p.m. ET

Probability of Wii Announcements: Surprisingly high

Ubi is delaying their usual presentation by over a month, so we won't get to see dancing bears, vowels and consonants... sorry, towers galore, and the odd game that makes us all go "Wait, REALLY?" until July. Though it does give us plenty of time to run the betting pool on how many generations of hardware Just Dance 2021 shows up on. Does it get yet another Wii release?

We'll keep this updated with any date changes or shows that get announced late. Enjoy the silly season.

Updated 6/4 due to the change of the Future Games Show, the Limited Run Games show, and the Guerrilla Collective. Updated 6/7 for date change of EA Play Live, new dates for IGN, and adding the Escapist Indie Showcase. Updated 6/13 with the confirmed date of the Limited Run showcase.

Featuring Peony and more.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53893/pokemon-sword-and-shield-isle-of-armor-expansion-launching-june-17

A new Japanese trailer for Pokémon Sword and Shield's expansion pass has given a launch date for the Isle of Armor.

The first of the two expansions will launch on June 17, and include a new Galarian form of Slowbro (a Psychic/Poison type) and special Gigantamax versions of Venusaur and Blastoise in addition to the new Kubfu and Urshifu previously. announced.

New details for the Crown Tundra expansion were announced including naming the new guide character Peony, and revealing new Electric and Dragon members of the Regi- line of legendaries. The new versions of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres shown in January were revealed as Psychic/Flying, Fighting/Flying, and Dark/Flying respectively. Players will encounter version mascot legendaries such as Ho-oh and Kyogre in a special raid, and a new tournament will unlock after completing the Tundra.

All corporations are bad. They're like cops or my reviews.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53883/nintendo-downloads-june-4-2020

It's been a while since a week was this back loaded: there's more coming out Friday/Saturday than the rest of the week combined. The two big end of week heavy hitters are the two you could buy in stores if there were any open: The Outer Worlds from 2K/Private Division and Nintendo's second straight retail release in Clubhouse Games. Look for a review of the latter soon-ish.

The rest of the week sees an action brawler in The Takeover (no relation to the line of classic WWE pay-per-views before their death in 2016), and something called "Do Not Feed The Monkeys" launching today. As we come closer to announcement season, it wouldn't be odd to see more shadowdrops, but given recent circumstances it could just mean a backlog of lotcheck that Nintendo's various branches have to deal with. See Europe, where Shantae and the Seven Sirens is coming out this Thursday.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53860/crystal-chronicles-remaster-experiences-august-27-release

Seemingly the last post-SNES Final Fantasy to be remastered finally has a release date for Switch.

Square Enix have confirmed August 27 as the worldwide launch date for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered. No word has been given regarding a physical Switch release for North America or Europe, though one will be available in Japan.

The remastered version of the 2003 GameCube/GBA connectivity title will feature cross-platform online multiplayer between Switch, mobile platforms, and the PlayStation 4.

Her career took off in the last few years, but she has returned for the epilogue.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53844/jenna-coleman-reprising-role-of-meila-in-xenoblade-chronicles-definitive-edition

The entire voice cast of Xenoblade Chronicles is returning for this week's Definitive Edition, including one actress who became a major star in the following years.

Jenna Coleman, who provided the voice of Princess Meila in the Nintendo of Europe-helmed dub of the original Xenoblade Chronicles, has been confirmed by the game's credits to be returning for the Definitive Edition; this includes new lines for the Future Connected epilogue.

In the years following the original dub release of Xenoblade Chronicles, Coleman became known for portraying Clara Oswald, the companion of Doctor Who as portrayed by Matt Smith and later Peter Capaldi: her turn as the Doctor's companion is the longest in the history of the long-running science fiction series. Later, she would portray Queen Victoria in the ITV series Victoria, which aired in North America on PBS stations.

TalkBack / Adventure Platformer Hoa Announced For Switch

Chill out in a world that can safely be called "Ghibli-esque".

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53847/adventure-platformer-hoa-announced-for-switch

Switch owners looking to blow off stress later in the year will be able to explore a land of mystery and wonder.

Hoa was announced today as due for Switch release in "late 2020", according to developer Skrollcat Studios. The title character Hoa is trying to return to her homeland, but must explore a calm and magical world to get there.

Skrollcat specifically named the art of Studio Ghibli films as an inspiration for the game's graphics.

Originally expected to launch last fall, the Samurai Shodown collection for Switch is but a couple of months out.

The collection of fighters, officially known as the Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection, will hit Switch on July 28 with a MSRP of US$39.99. A retail version will be available in addition to the digital release.

The collection is a new product by retro compilation specialists Digital Eclipse (Mega Man Legacy Collection, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection), who have also included a version of Samurai Shodown V thought to have been lost in the collection.

Really not feeling the reluctance to reveal pricing this week.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53830/nintendo-downloads-may-28-2020

Yo yo yo, pop a microSD card and clear your calendars it's REYN TIME* this week with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Adding a 10-15 hour prologue seems kind of counter-productive, but what do I know. I do know, however, that 2K is dropping six separate releases on the eShop this week, and we only know the price for one of them as of Monday. Joy.

In other news, this is a surprisingly big week for the eShop: we've also got OH HAY LOOK SHANTAE and the Seven Sirens for the Zach special, Minecraft Dungeons as the Hatsune Miku love expands to the third person looter genre, and... is that a Switch release of a 1991 PC game in the form of F-117A Stealth Fighter? So far, the Archives are represented by Thunder Force AC from Sega as we transition to a definitely not stealth fighter.

TalkBack / Nintendo Sales Panic: April 2020 US NPD Group Results
« on: May 22, 2020, 02:53:48 AM »

These sales are sick.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53802/nintendo-sales-panic-april-2020-us-npd-group-results

April's sales in the US have continued to make bell-fueled history, according to today's sales survey from the NPD Group.

All figures based on dollar sales from April 5 - May 3, unless otherwise noted.

The Switch maintained its position as the top selling console in April, and total console sales revenue increased by more than 160% compared to last April. Switch dollar sales through the end of April are the highest the NPD Group has ever tracked for the first four months of a year, beating the Wii's sales in January - April 2009. NPD did not reveal if the Lite/dockable split of sales (at $199/$299 US) would allow for the unit sales to be higher than the 2,373,200 units (at $249) reported for the Wii by the end of April 2009.

Software saw Square Enix's action rebuild Final Fantasy VII Remake take the top slot, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons holding in 3rd place combined for the month (without digital sales from Nintendo). The only other Nintendo exclusive game to make the top 20 combined was chart regular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (16th), while third parties on Switch include NBA 2K20 (4th), Just Dance 2020 (11th), FIFA 20 (12th), and Mortal Kombat 11 (13th). The other major Switch retail debut for April, Square Enix's Trials of Mana, did make the Switch software top 10 and no other reported platform's.

The full Switch top 10:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  3. Just Dance 2020 (Ubisoft)
  4. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
  5. The Legend of Zelda; Breath of the Wild
  6. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
  7. Luigi's Mansion 3
  8. Pokemon Sword
  9. Trials of Mana (Square Enix)
  10. Super Mario Party

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - May 21, 2020

Because our hearts beat as one.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53786/nintendo-downloads-may-21-2020

All right y'all, unite up. We got some downloads to go through, starting with the big game of the week: The Wonderful 101 Remastered. It's actually a Kickstarter success story in that they managed to go from campaign start to out in three months (even if the game was like, 99% done), but the comparisons to last year's Astral Chain suddenly make a lot of sense.

Other things worth watching: the just-dropped Five Nights At Freddy's VR game and Journey of the Savage Planet, the off the wall (and everything else) What the Golf, and Arrest of a stone Buddha which is the follow-up to The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa from the same developer. UPL's Raiders 5 is the ACA release, though I suppose Myst coming to its 15,000th platform could also count.

TalkBack / LEGO Mario Set Adds Power-Up Outfits For Mario
« on: May 20, 2020, 03:31:05 AM »

Flying, yes. Squirrel based, no.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53789/lego-mario-set-adds-power-up-outfits-for-mario

It won't just be regular Super Mario in this summer's LEGO set, unless you want it to.

LEGO and Nintendo have announced a series of "Power Up Packs" that will allow for the replacing of the classic Mario outfit with four power-up based designs. The packs will be available for Fire, Propeller, Builder, and Cat Mario.

The Power Up Packs will be available on August 1 and can be preordered from the official LEGO store and Walmart in the US.

This is going to end up with the entire team cheering as an Edelgard cutout starts looking like the owner in Major League.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/53771/creating-the-garreg-mach-knights-in-super-mega-baseball-3

Edelgard Hresvelg had a problem. And it was personal.

As the general manager of the newest team in the Super Mega Baseball league, she had to try and keep a team together who, largely speaking, hated her guts. Most of them stuck around out of some loyalty to either a teammate or manager Byleth “Professor” Eisner, who managed to charm a good portion of the roster with her winning history managing the AAA Arianrhod Lions. But this was the big leagues, and her job was to put butts every 18 inches. How to do that? Just win, baby.

With a little help from chief scout Hubert Vestra, this was the team who was looking to outshine the Diamondbacks of MLB and the NHL’s own (Golden) Knights to win the league pennant in their inaugural season.

Retail workers will probably hate one of the free features.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53779/moonlighter-expansion-between-dimensions-dropping-may-29

Moonlighter's biggest expansion yet is coming at the end of next week.

The "Between Dimensions" expansion will come to Switch on May 29, 2020 for US$6.99 or equivalent. The corresponding update will include free updates for all owners including new thieves, an indecisive customer, and an annoying bird.

The paid portion of the expansion will require players to beat the game to access, and will include a new dungeon, new enemies, and new weapons and armor including trick gear.

TalkBack / New Additions To NES And SNES Online Libraries Announced
« on: May 14, 2020, 02:22:59 PM »

Rygar! Panel de Pon! Exclamation points!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53750/new-additions-to-nes-and-snes-online-libraries-announced

The NES and SNES libraries for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be expanding again on May 20.

Tecmo's 1987 action game Rygar will be the NES release for this update. The SNES library will add three games: Operation Logic Bomb, a 1993 overhead shooter from Jaleco which is also a sequel to the Game Boy's Fortified Zone, Natsume's side-scrolling shooter Wild Guns (a remastered version was released on Switch), and Panel de Pon: the last game is a technical Japanese import that was reskinned into Tetris Attack for Western markets and is now more likely known as Puzzle League.

The Japanese lineup will have Super Punch-Out, Panel de Pon, Rygar, and Rough World (localized as Journey to Silius).

They also put it back up for preorder with a release date of a week from Friday (the 22nd). Let's see if it sticks.
