TalkBack / Invisible Inc. Open For Business On Switch eShop
« on: June 15, 2020, 02:05:50 PM »

Y'all ever see a shadowdrop so sudden you are forced to immediately go to the eShop?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/54067/invisible-inc-open-for-business-on-switch-eshop

The Switch has added another strategy titan to its loaded lineup.

Invisible Inc., Klei Entertainment's 2015 PC strategy hit, is now available on the eShop. Originally dropped in Europe, it launched in North America shortly afterward for US$19.99/€19.99/£17.99/C$25.19.

A futuristic strategy game with a stealth focus, each playthrough will require different strategies to proceed. The Switch version will add the content of the PC's Contingency Plan DLC.

TalkBack / Expectations And Wishes For The New Game Plus Expo
« on: June 15, 2020, 02:00:00 AM »

Warning: Port begging is approaching fast.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/54055/expectations-and-wishes-for-the-new-game-plus-expo

We’ve gotten a few announcements out of the way already with this E3 replacement week, but for my money the main event of this month (barring an out-of-nowhere Direct that likely won’t happen) is on June 23. Because that’s the day of the New Game Plus Expo.

In terms of release quantity, the list of presenters represents some of the biggest 3rd parties on the platform - and for those who aren’t (Atlus), there’s a lot of potential for big releases that would definitely get my attention. So let’s preview the show on the 23rd with what I’m expecting to appear from the appearing companies, as well as my wishes that would make this the best Nintendo platform related presentation since E3 2010.

Sega

What I expect: June 23 is 29 years to the day since Sonic 1 released. There was going to be a Sonic announcement at South by Southwest before that was cancelled. The movie made money AND was closer to the original Mortal Kombat than Annihilation in terms of quality. If we don’t have a Sonic game announced at New Game Plus, I’m assuming somebody died.

What I wish for: Either a Skies of Arcadia remaster, or they let Rieko Kodama helm a Skies of Arcadia 2 or Phantasy Star V (offline).

Atlus

What I expect: A shadow drop of an English version of the Catherine: Full Body demo and/or a release date for the localization of Persona 5 Strikers/Scramble.

What I wish for: A broader multiplatform strategy for their back catalogue following the recent release of Persona 4 Golden for Steam and its ascension to the top of the best seller chart inside of a half hour. Or, since TGS won’t be happening this year, ANYTHING about Shin Megami Tensei V (the last game from January 2017’s Switch reveal not released). Or port Persona 5 Royal to Switch. In other words, I’m easy to please.

NIS America

What I expect: Reminder of their Switch lineup for the rest of the year which includes Trails of Cold Steel III, Void Terrarium, the Prinny remakes, and Giraffe & Annika.

What I wish for: Take this, port it to Switch. That is all. (It’s the 10th anniversary of the series and I’d like to think the celebration wouldn’t be limited to mobile ports of 1…)

Aksys Games

What I expect: A boarding from the Otome Armada, as they have four of their six otome games still to release (including one on the 25th of June).

What I wish for: Complying with the wishes of Kotaro Uchikoshi and dropping the Zero Escape trilogy (or at least the combined release of 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward called “The Nonary Games”). I am aware that the last two wishes require some help from another company here, but it’s my list damnit.

Spike Chunsoft

What I expect: They’re still involved with PixelJunk Eden 2, so a release date for that.

What I wish for: The most mysterious Famitsu 10, 428: Shibuya Scramble, has a localization and I’d be interested in trying it on Switch. Or, since I’m really dreaming, a new Fire Pro Wrestling (or Switch port of FPW World) so I can fight as LE CHAMPION.

GungHo America

What I expect: Ninjala launches literally the next day. Launch trailer and a gameplay demo at minimum.

What I wish for: The Grandia HD treatment for another mid-to-late-90s RPG series they own the rights to: Lunar.

Koei Tecmo

What I expect: An announcement that Fairy Tail has gone gold and will meet its most recent release date along with something with “Warriors” in the title.

What I wish for: The follow-up to Atelier Ryza is confirmed for simultaneous release worldwide.

Natsume

What I expect: A lot of hype for Harvest Moon: One World, especially in light of the Friends of Mineral Town remake coming out next month.

What I wish for: An announcement of the acquisition of the rights to the Lufia series starting with Lufias I & II coming to Switch Online, and they’re working with an indie studio to publish a new game in the franchise on the eShop.

Arc System Works

What I expect: Their focus will be on Guilty Gear Strive, which isn’t coming to Switch.

What I wish for: They dumped a few of the games from the Kunio-Kun bundle on the eShop in April, and the rest of them will launch in the next few months. Including the unlocalized ones.

Inti Creates

What I expect: They’re getting ready to launch the Gunvolt games on PlayStation 4, but they probably have a new multiplatform retro revival in their back pocket.

What I wish for: Said revival is Mega Man X9 with Capcom, in the 16 bit art style, and with none of the cruft of the games that followed… we’ll say X2.

WayForward

What I expect: Some sort of DLC or free update for the recently released Shantae and the Seven Sirens.

What I wish for: More like what THEY wish for… there was talk of remastering the 2002 Shantae (from the Game Boy Color) recently, and they announce it for a 2021 release for the (intended) 20th anniversary.

SNK

What I expect: A big push for the Samurai Shodown collection that launches on Switch next month (and is already out on PC).

What I wish for: Remember when they dropped SNK Gal Fighters from the Neo Geo Pocket Color a couple of months ago? Three words: Card Fighters Clash.

Actill/Playism

What I expect: Playism has a couple of games coming out on the Thursday before (including One Way Heroics) and I expect one or both to get a physical release from Actill.

What I wish for: Playism also published Kero Blaster, so they rescued the rights to pixel’s other game, Cave Story+, from Nicalis and are distributing it going forward. Again, a physical release from Actill to follow.

Do you have any hopes or predictions for the New Game Plus expo? If so, sound off in the Talkback below.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - June 18, 2020
« on: June 15, 2020, 01:00:00 AM »

Containing those rarest of beasts: an actual EA game.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/54054/nintendo-downloads-june-18-2020

The big release for the week, whether we like it or not, is Burnout Paradise Remastered - and EA/Criterion, for all the jokes we make about the unprecedented partnership, did make a pretty solid open world racing game on the Wii U of all things. And Burnout Paradise is considered to be the better game overall, so... have fun, even if the game has been 10% of its Switch launch price on multiple platforms of late including one where it JUST LAUNCHED.

Other released to watch for this week include the absolute load of games announced last week. Namco Museum Archives, the Darius Cozmic Collections, Working Zombies, The Bard's Tale, and Ruiner were all announced on a really busy few days. Colt Canyon and One Way Heroics (no word on if the latter includes the Danganronpa DLC) are also dropping for Switch, as well as construction simulation Railway Empire. And somehow, we ended up with a game based on the Polandballs web comic series which always seems to flare up around the time of the football/soccer World Cup.

Other states would have allowed it. The NHL is using two hub cities for their playoffs and it doesn't look like either one is going to be in Florida. They're playing in Florida because Disney/ESPN wanted them there, and because they have the facilities necessary to hold that many teams.

Also the fact that it'd be hellacious to try and maintain ice in Florida in the middle of the summer. Most of the US cities would be bad for this (thinking of Vegas, which was another possibility for both the NHL and NBA).

None of them star Nolan North, as far as we know.

Saturday's final presentation of the day was the Future Gaming Show, which did feature several announcements and updates for Switch titles.

  • Curve Digital announced a pair of follow-ups to prior Switch releases: Space Crew is a sequel to 2018's Bomber Crew with many parodic elements of sci-fi series and a September release date, while the show closed on Serial Cleaners - a pluralistic sequel to the 2017 cleaning game set in the 1990s. It will launch in 2021.

General Gaming / Re: Games Industry Death Watch 2010-present
« on: June 13, 2020, 08:11:34 AM »
Mortal Kombat is probably the biggest multiplatform fighting game IP in the business, and the Batman games did REALLY well for WB as well (with another seemingly on the way). Add in the possibility of a bidding war - I'm sure Activision would like another 5-6 studios to pump out CODs - and $4bn may be realistic.

TalkBack / Nintendo Sales Panic: May 2020 US NPD Group Results
« on: June 12, 2020, 02:42:59 AM »

It's impressive that people were able to find that many Switches to buy.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/54007/nintendo-sales-panic-may-2020-us-npd-group-results

The NPD Group's monthly sales survey of the United States shows big Switch sales continuing.

All results based on dollar unit sales from May 3 - 30, unless otherwise noted. Also, Nintendo does not provide first party eShop sales to the NPD Group, though third parties do provide this data for their games.

Sales were up year over year compared to 2019, and the Switch was the prime beneficiary in hardware. The Switch was the top selling system of May, as it has in every month this year, and its unit sales were the highest in a May since the DS in May 2009: this sets a bound for Switch sales in May of between 383,700 (May 2010) and 633,500 (2009).

For software, Nintendo debuted Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition on May 29 and in two days of sale, the RPG remaster clocked into 14th spot in the combined sales chart. Animal Crossing: New Horizons continued its dominance with another 3rd place finish, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 12th, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate took 18th. Third parties had another strong month with NBA 2K20 placing 4th, Mortal Kombat 11 5th following its Aftermath expansion, Minecraft 7th, Minecraft Dungeons 15th (without any of its eShop sales, where it ranked higher than Animal Crossing on the Best Seller chart), and FIFA 20 in 20th.

The full Switch top 10:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  3. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
  4. Super Smash Bros Ultimate
  5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  6. Just Dance 2020 (Ubisoft)
  7. Pokemon Sword
  8. New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
  9. Luigi's Mansion 3
  10. Super Mario Odyssey

Nintendo has released a new trailer showing off nearly six minutes of play for the upcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King.

TalkBack / Escapist Indie Showcase Recap
« on: June 11, 2020, 07:43:32 AM »

If you live and breathe indie games, this was a seven course meal - but how much Switch did it have?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53993/escapist-indie-showcase-recap

The Escapist Magazine held their indie showcase today in lieu of E3, running at 2 hours and 10 minutes long. During the course of the show, seven new games were announced for Switch and 11 games received new updates or at least had new footage shown.

New Games

  • Drive Buy is a multiplayer game that involves groups of drivers competing to deliver the most packages - or destroy the other team to take their packages. Launching in July 2020, it will feature crossplay with the PC version.
  • Deleveled is a single-screen puzzle game in which a pair of blocks with identical movement have to reach a group of exits, but have to deal with gravity retention and a horde of other obstacles to get there. It is slated for a "summer" release.
  • Jack Move is a turn-based RPG with retro styled graphics and a battle system that involves using rhythm minigames to "hack the world". No release window was given beyond 2021.
  • Proto Corgi, currently slated for November, is a new colorful scrolling shooter in which a corgi has to save themselves and the planet from a horde of cute monsters.
  • Unto The End combines exploration and what the developer referred to as "Punch-Out style" puzzle based combat. No release window was given.
  • Disjunction was revealed for Switch, and is a cyberpunk action RPG with an overhead perspective that follows the intertwining lives of a trio of characters.
  • Hyper Brawl Tournament will launch in summer 2020, and is a 2v2 flying disc game. When not creating massive, screen-spanning curves to get the disc into a net, players will have multiple weapon options with which to beat their opponents down.

Among the games that had new information were Helheim Hassle, from the developers of Manual Samuel. The limb-focused adventure game will release on August 18. The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild (Tumblestone, The Bridge) also updated two outstanding games: twin-stick slasher Break Point (summer 2020) and sailing roguelike Sail Forth ("later this year"). New trailers were also shown for the following: Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Remastered, Lost Words: Beyond the Page, Hotshot Racing, Axiom Verge 2, Eldest Souls, Skully, Quantum League, and Roki.

"I am a killer... I am the Bear Hugger!"

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/53988/super-punch-out-and-raiden-among-upcoming-arcade-archives-releases

Hamster has held another stream to announce a new developer joining the family and two upcoming Nintendo projects.

The Nintendo projects are a pair of 1984 arcade titles, with Vs Baseball and Super Punch-Out!! joining the lineup. Super Punch-Out is the sequel to the original arcade Punch-Out and features the first duck option in the series as well as the debuts of Super Macho Man, Bear Hugger, and Dragon Chan (all of whom would appear in the Super Nintendo game of the same game released a decade later). Vs Baseball is a two player baseball game.

Hamster has also added the library of a new developer, Seibu Kaihatsu. Known for the Raiden series of scrolling shooters, the original (1990) Raiden will join 1985 platformer Wiz and 1993 beat 'em up Zero Team in their early lineup.

Transformers: Battlegrounds, a strategy game based on the long running toy franchise, will release on Switch October 23.

Battlegrounds will be the first Transformers game since 2014's Rise of the Dark Spark for Wii U. This new one will be developed by UK studio Coatsink and published by Outright Games.

The Darius Collection won't be the only collection of retro games coming to Switch next week.

Bandai Namco will be releasing the Namcot Collection announced in the Japanese Nintendo Direct Mini this past March as the Namco Museum Archives on June 18. It will come in two parts, as opposed to the individual purchases of the Japanese version, though some games will be Japan-only for now.

The first part will contain the NES/Famicom versions of: Dig Dug, Dragon Buster, Dragon Spirit: The New Legend, Galaxian, Mappy, Pac-Man, Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, Sky Kid, The Tower of Druaga, and Xevious. It will also contain a demake of Pac-Man Championship Edition done in the 8-bit style. Volume 2 will feature: Battle City, Dig Dug II, Dragon Buster II, Galaga, Legacy of the Wizard, Mappy-Land, Mendel Palace (the first game from Pokemon developers Game Freak), Pac-Land, Rolling Thunder, and Super Xevious. It will also feature a "consolized" version of Gaplus.

A pair of items related to Konami came up overnight regarding a popular re-release and a cancelled Switch project.

This week's Arcade Archives release has been confirmed as Sunset Riders, the 1991 arcade game perhaps more famously known for its 1993 Super Nintendo port. The arcade version of Sunset Riders supports up to four players simultaneously, and will launch with tomorrow's eShop update for the standard ACA pricing.
