I still don't believe it, the chance that they would ever get their $25 million investment back is very small.  There won't be many people that can subscribe to this service because of the bandwith requirements.  Asking people to pay for a pc(which is what it is) and then asking them to pay a monthly fee to be able to use it is ridiculous and I think a lot of people would agree with me. Then again, this would only be a problem if this was a real "console".

I think Link would have to disagree with you! ;-)

NWR Feedback / Server Problems?

The problem only happens on PGC, though- never when I replying to emails or typing in URLs or writing in Word.

In that case, my best guess is that it is some software interfering with your mouse and/or keyboard drivers. I see that PGC has a flash-advertisement up for Banzai. This particular advertisement seems to be causing me some trouble as well on some sites.  When visiting IGN my mouse sometimes stops working, but this only happens when the Banzai advertisement is on the screen. If I go to a webpage without this advertisement(using my keyboard only) my mouse suddenly works again.

If I'm posting a new thread sometimes the cursor will jump to the topic line. It rarely ever happens but it's really annoying when it does.

It sounds like it is a problem that is happening locally at your computer. PGC's server can't control your cursor. Is there a mobile phone close to your keyboard or mouse? Do you have a cordless desktop?

There was a room named grove at the surface with water in it and another one named sea of fire with two pillars in the center. That's why this point was really frustrating for me, I searched in the wrong rooms.

Isn't that room the hint points to called the Life Grove? That's what it's called in my version of Metroid Prime.

What kind of DOS is it? Have you considered asking your hosting provider to implement a router block?

Sorry, I feel Metroid Prime doesn't deserve that award because it's too buggy and the translation has two misleading hints (pointing towards the wrong rooms).

The European version of Metroid Prime had all the obvious bugs removed and the AI was improved to make it more difficult than the US version.  Also the hints and logs where slightly altered. I'd have to say that if the US version doesn't deserve the award, the European version definately does.

Doesn't Japan have DVD-region encoding 2 just like Europe and South Africa?

You're right, that's probably not even his real address, altough it does appear that he lives near there.

General Gaming / Europe not embracing online play.
« on: July 02, 2003, 03:07:43 AM »
The reason for this is because in large parts of Europe broadband still isn't widespread. Countries like the UK, Germany and the Netherlands all have many households with broadband, but there are many places where broadband isn't available or is just plain unaffordable.

Also there are no phone listings to be found for Infinium Labs in any of the cities where the company is supposed to have headquarters. The address in the whois-directory for the site is that of a person and not a company, which is easy to find out based on the phone listings.

IGN also believe it is a hoax. Look for the letter "All About Phantom".

I am convinced the Phantom is a hoax. The original site had an "extranet" link instead of an intranet link for employees.  The domain name infiniumlabs.com is registered to an individual, not a company. The Phantom is supposed to be have cross-platform compatibility. The only current way of achieving this is by basing the hardware on Yoshi's Box.  The IP-adres used to host the site belongs to IBM's Raleigh research center. Don't be taken in by this hoax!

Nintendo Gaming / Silent Hill 3 on Gamecube?!
« on: June 29, 2003, 10:25:57 AM »
The text on the cover seems to be placeholder text. Only the picture of SH3 and the logo are supposed to be final. I read that Edge magazine already reported rumours that SH3 was coming to the GameCube a while ago. Edge magazine were right about the GBASP too.

I'm not sure what to think. On the one hand Hideo Kojima only recently said that there would be no SH3 on the GC. On the other hand this is confirmed to be next months cover for Nintendo OFFICIAL Magazine in the UK. The only thing I know is that I am definately getting this issue for the Viewtiful Joe demo alone.

Until Sega patch PSO, that is not going to happen. ;-) I've heard rumours that the loading of code sent from the main server isn't a bug but a feature of PSO.

The situation is more complicated than that. If the prices of games went up due to piracy, consumers are more likely to buy pirated games. Because of this, games companies often have to lower the prices to in order to discourage piracy.

When the pricing for European GameCube games was established, the prices were rougly equal to the prices in the US. The difference in price there is at the moment is basically being caused by the dollar going down in value.

Master Quest was NOT released for the N64 in Japan. It was developed as a 64DD add-on to Ocarina of Time. After the 64DD flopped the decision was made to not release it. Read this and  this if you don't believe me.

Master Quest was NEVER released on the N64. It was developed for the N64, but it was only released for the first time for the Zelda bonus disc.

As far as I've heard, the Master Quest was stored on the GameCube disc as a rom-file. Someone dumped the disc to a pc and then decoded the filesystem to get the rom.

Apparently the games were dumped using a bug in PSO allowing someone to run homebrew code on the GameCube.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, the GBA pirate scene is huge and people are still buying enough GBA games.

In Europe DVD-burners are starting to get very cheap. A friend of mine bought one last week after one of the NEC burners dropped 30 Euro's in price in a matter of days.
