Looks like a few Wii games today in the Amazon gold box.

Active Life Outdoor Challenge was the first one, at $37, but it's over now.

So EA Sports Active for $45 for the next 3 hours (5-8 eastern time)

At 5pm PDT, Take to the Ski Hills with this action packed Wii Game

The other two deals are football games it would seem by the clues. Madden for 360 is the current one, not sure about later today.

TalkBack / Re: Okami 2 to be Revealed By Famitsu?
« on: August 27, 2009, 11:57:52 PM »
Yeah I enjoyed Okami more than MM, WW, or TP.  So much of the same basic gameplay, hearts, ink (magic), collecting upgrades, heart pieces, etc.  But some variety in the 3 weapon types and primary/secondary alt functions.  Not to mention all the ink powers, some of which were very useful in battle.

And something different for the background legends and stories. Sure Link (courage) Zelda (wisdom) and Ganondorf (power) is interesting, but we have heard it before.  Amaterasu, Orochi, Yami, etc was all new to me.

It's like Okami took a whole bunch of good parts from Zelda, added some more unique ideas, wrapped it all into a new interesting story, put a fresh coat of paint (literally  ;) ) on it, and made a great game.

More please.  ;D

I hope Nintendo patents a helmet so all these "at-risk" gamers can protect themselves from Wii related head injury too.

My wife hits me in the head with a Wiimote quite often.

Especially during any of WSR's sword modes.

It hurts.  :o

Need the Madden exclusivity to end before this would work I think.  Just one EA game and one Nintendo (Wii Sports style) game using it might not be enough.  Some more competition out there could really make it worthwhile, and maybe find the best uses for it.

Played through prime twice but 2 and 3 only once.  It's been a while either way, but veteran mode is tempting...  :-\

Since it uses Wii system friend codes, I don't see a need for a separate thread. We already have one for system codes.

Ah, I guess I should go post in that thread then heh.

Yeah figured NES Metroid was gone.  I kept MP1 just for that, but traded in MP2 and MP3 towards this purchase.  Can't wait to get my hands on it tomorrow.

Should there be an MPT/3 thread in the friend code forum?  ???

TalkBack / Re: Vicarious Visions Discusses Guitar Hero 5 on Wii
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:32:39 PM »

Another new online feature is that Guitar Hero 5 will support the Wii system's friend list instead of having its own unique set of friend codes. Bala revealed that the first time the game is run you will be asked if you would like to import your friends list from your Wii address book. From then on, the game will always be connected to internet and you can easily see what friends are online.     <P>
When asked if the pioneering use of the Wii system address book as the in-game friends list was a great moment of discovery, Bala responded, "Nintendo actually made that feature available for quite some time now. It wasn't something that we could implement in time for World Tour."

Should have been the only option from the start. Nintendo never should have had game-specific codes.  Having to enter the same people over and over again for games has been ridiculous.

Welcome back mailbag.  ;D

As for the M+ Zelda question... Tiger Woods seems to calibrate seamlessly. There's a mention of placing it facedown for a few seconds similar to WSR if you feel that it is not calibrated properly.  But there's no popup screens or anything noticeable.  And after 2 months of play now, I've never noticed a problem.  :o

RE4 is the answer to the Sonic and the quality 3rd party games question.  :P

I wonder how many puzzles are in Sudoku?  The Brain Age interface was better than any of the specific sudoku games out there, and I still pick it up just for that, more than any brain tests.

Really doesn't make sense now.  Thought it was going to be some kind of serial number code, specific to versions, trying to combat piracy and/or used game sales or something.

Locking them with a regular type-in password that works on any copy doesn't make any sense at all.  ???

TalkBack / Re: REVIEWS: Rock Band Country Track Pack
« on: August 16, 2009, 05:55:18 AM »
Well actually with homebrew you can import these track packs into RB2.

I'll be damned.  Just another reason for me to consider trying that.  Have already been annoyed with the last year or two and all of the un-copyable save files that have been released with games.  After having a Gamecube memory card die years ago I have been a fanatic about backing up save files, and yet for some reason Nintendo doesn't want to let me.  >:(

That alone has been driving me to try homebrew.  But if I can actually have the same RB2 features as the 360 guys too, there's another great reason to try it.

As for the review... since these track packs use the RB1 interface, are they also stuck with RB1 instrument compatibility or do they have the much better RB2 compatibility that works with RB/GHWT instruments both?  ???

Guess that'd be an even bigger reason to not buy them for many if it didn't...

Amazon deal of the day for Sunday.  Tiger Woods 10 Wii for $29.98.  Of course that's without the M+.  But if you already got M+ with WSR, then there ya go, get the best golf game ever made to date.

Nintendo Power kind of crapped on this game, so this is a bit of a surprise for me. I think they couldn't adapt to the more arcade-style gameplay.

I saw posts about that today too.  Someone said they docked points for lack of franchise mode.  Apparently no one told them about the forthcoming code.  So supposedly they are revising their score in next month's issue...

Or so said some guys on the internet, however reliable that is.

Saw a story on Yahoo! about paid DLC for Madden.  Any sign of this in the Wii version?

I know TW10 had some costumes available from the "online store" in-game.

Additionally, nearly every downloadable track players have downloaded in World Tour will be forward-compatible and will take use of all the new features.

So just downloaded tracks?  Not GH:WT tracks themselves?

Because usually the Wii versions (RB-RB2, track packs) have not had the song-importing features that the 360/PS3 versions have had.  :(

The World Ends With You for $9.98

Lightning deal at Amazon.

You have less than four hours assuming it doesn't sell out in the next ten minutes.

Saw it. Have it but told a friend.  But it didn't make it even within an hour of the end.  Oh well.  He should buy it anyway.

Do you only get the sidequest when you talk to both the Able Sisters and the others at Gracies?

I noticed that Labelle was sighing after I've bought a lot of stuff at GracieGrace. That could be the catalyst...

Getting clothing rated by Gracie 3 times, being "friends" with the Able sisters, and having Nookington's are the main things you need.  The other requirements are littlie things like speaking to Pelly once.

« on: July 31, 2009, 02:27:17 AM »
Well the wife and I played the hell out of it Sunday... and Monday... and Tuesday... and a little bit yesterday.

It's loads of fun.  As others have said, the game only forces you to calibrate when you first start it up, or if you perhaps leave it running for 5+ minutes and the wiimote shuts off, then you come back, the first game you play asks you to lie it facedown.

Tiger Woods I don't ever doing any calibration in-game.  I know the game manual said something about placing the Wiimote facedown to re-calibrate if you felt it was out of whack.  But you didn't have to pause or anything.  I think I might have done that if I ever had to take a break and came back and the wiimote had shut down.

Anyway both my wife and I have gotten really into the Swordplay.  And while running the showdown mode we have both started pausing and setting the wiimote down before each round.  Seems like the swinging can really knock it out of whack.  Maybe we're just being overcautious or something.

But I've played through an entire 18 holes of golf and disc golf and never felt like it was out of whack.  So I guess it just depends on the mode and whatever.

True test of the game will probably be when I have my parents over to play.  They're on vacation right now, so in a couple weeks I guess.  But they absolutely love bowling and tennis from the first game.  Curious to see if they will adjust to ping pong in this one and if they will find any of the others interesting.  I'd think they'd enjoy 3-point shootout as our whole family has always played a lot of basketball, but we'll see.

I'm more than satisfied with the purchase for myself though.  Of course after first playing Tiger Woods 10 over a month ago, I was sold on M+.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, TW10 beats the hell out of WSR golf.  For serious players or casual players either one, TW10 is superior.  WSR keeps the same ridiculous "swing too hard and you randomly hook/slice" BS that Wii Sports had already.  >:(  Dumbest design ever, still.  And the putting... well it's just shitty compared to TW10.  The putting in TW10 is just so amazing, if you play enough you can stop looking at the power meter even.  But WSR golf never has that precision feel to it.

As for disc golf, it's a much closer match.  WSR disc golf might be a bit more challenging.  It's hard to tell how much of it is the limited aiming and difficulty telling how far away from hazards you are vs. how precise the actual throwing motion is measured.  TW10 has the "can't miss" putter disc, but WSR is much easier to hole out on a par 3.  They're both fun in their own way.
