Analog sticks lack precision, and are only similar to arcade sticks in shape.  Arcade sticks are digital, like a d-pad.  They are either on or off, and that precision is important to fighting games, analog sticks have a sort of looseness and it's easy to lose which direction your actually pushing.

I know it's hopeless, but it would be REAL COOL if Aksys Games (current publishers of Million, who are ex technos members and currently hold the rights Kunio-kun games which us yanks would know as River City Ransom) decided to translate and release Downtown Special Kunio-kun no Jidageki Dayo Zenin Shugou.  Which is, for those who don't know, a feudal japan themed river city ransom.  It's awesome!

But it will not happen...

This is a lot of fun.  If I reviewed it I'd give it a Fun/10.  It's much better in short bursts, rather than extended sittings.  I like the dialogue, even if it's over the top and stupid.  Some funny one-liners.

It's fun!

Caliban, if you are rocking the DSlite, just pick up a used copy of River City Ransom for the GBA, and you'll never need another brawler.  Ever.

I'm pretty sure Killzone 2 has "proximity chat", at least this is what I have gathered from watching my roommate play the game.  And I think I overheard the PS3 guy at work using it as a selling point for something or another. BLU RAYZ HOLD MORE, MORE CONTENTS (textures really...),  MORE GOODLIER GAMES...every time I talk to that guy I get pretty down on videogames...

Either way it's neat.

Funny enough this was a "killer app" for me.  I LOVE pyoro, he is easily one of my favorite nintendo characters.  I anticipate WarioWare titles only for his appearance.  Pyoro:T is probably my favorite (from warioware touched).

I'd say this is a seriously well designed arcade game, with lot's of risk and reward.  Has that great "one more try" feeling, and an elements of surprise.  Make it past 10k and you see buildings come up, past 20k and its sepia tones, past 30k and it turns into white outlines on black, 40k it's like a rave, and I've yet to make it past that, but I will!

You also get Pyoro 2, which is a very good riff on the formula.  You spit seeds at the beans, the more you hit the more points you get, you rack up points way quick once you get good at it.

In honor of Pyoro I am changing my avatar!

Why not do that Vs. Mario Brothers game from Mario advance next ??

I honestly wouldn't mind this at 200 points.

The blue birds game was killing me, but if you pay attention to the option in the bottom right, when your doing poorly, you'll see it blinking.  The Barista lets you skip a game if your doing real bad, when that happens.

General Gaming / Re: Star Fox creator says some stuff
« on: April 04, 2009, 03:22:14 PM »
Thanks luigi dude, I thought something was off.  After reading the article I did a cursory google search of his name, and there was no mention of starfox.  If that's the case then this article is completely bogus!  Command wasn't terrible, I really enjoyed the terrible plots (classic cheese!) and the "command" aspect.

I think the Wii would be a great fit for starfox, which has always been (to me) about simple controls and shooting things.  Pointer controls would work great!  Or even the controls like in the warioware boss stage would be fun.  Or just use the nunchuck!  What's stopping you?  >=U

They might be playing in on the "Wii Shortage" fear.  If my best buy is any indication that shortage is done...

Does anybody know the initial numbers from the DS lite?  Probably the best way to guess at this.

Edit: The DSiware launch games have been announced, Warioware: Snapped, Bird and Beans (PYORO!), and Art style Aquia.  No pricing, but IGN (Where I got the news) suspects the same as Japan, which would put Warioware and Aquia at 500, and pyoro at 200.  The opera browser is also planned for release, and should be free.

This isn't happening on Sunday though, I'd guess Monday.

I'm still not convinced, but I wouldn't bet either way.  I've only had 2 or so customers outright ask about it, and the internet buzz seems pretty lukewarm to me, with what seems to be a lot of people holding on to their DS lites.  And many people feel that they don't need all the extra features, so its not like the people who walk in unknowing are going to side with the DSi.

Like I said though, I'm still showing up to my bestbuy early, because I am really pumped up for this thing!

114
We are NOT breaking street date!

My city is very large, it is the heart of the mid-south.  We received 36 of each color so 72 in total, the other store in town is only getting 12-15 of each, and the rest of the district is getting about the same 12-20 of each. I think the ad minimum is 12, but It could be lower, I haven't seen the ad yet.  A co-worker looked up the next projected delivery date and it was sometime in June, so it might be slim pickings for awhile.

I'm extremely excited for whatever reason.  I'm not expecting to sell out on day 1 (although you better believe that I'll be there early that day!) but there's been a recent influx of commercials, so I imagine we'll be out by the end of the week.  I am also guessing that the black will sell out quicker that the blue.  How fast did the DS lite sell on day one?  It'll probably be about the same I imagine...

We also got a big box full of rhythm heaven!

115
My best buy got it's shipment of DSi's!  :D

Initial impressions of the box?  It seems smaller, and has a nice surface texture, and it is overall, much heavier.  The blue is everything you could have hoped for in a blue.  It also sports a sticker advertising the free DS points!

I wonder what Nintendo is going to launch the DSi ware service with?  Pyoro I hope...

116
I may have an excuse to get a DSi now.  This morning I was unusually sleepy, and when I attempted to gently toss my DS Lite onto my bed, it slipped from my hand, bounced off the floor, opened up and splatted onto my dresser face first like a cartoon coyote, somehow ejecting the game card hard enough for it to touch the ceiling.  I didn't see any obvious damage, but I didn't have time to be thorough.

That sounds epic.  Low ceilings?

117
We have civilly ended an internet discussion....  I think I can get used to this place.

Reducing the game to its basics was a smart alec comment, hence the smiley :)

118
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Wario World disappoints me.  It's still a good game, but I think it could have been a bit more ambitious in it's design.  It's truly just a matter of the product leaving me unsatisfied,  after this though I feel like I should give it another chance.

And Double Dragon and Wario World have a few things in common. You move in all available directions (regardless of graphical tricks), you jump, and you punch guys in both. :)

Speaking of double dragon, I hope they release the gameboy one that was actually a kunio-kun game but with different graphics.  I had it when I was a kid and it was sweet.

119
I am shamed.... :-[

BTW, uncle bob, could you take me under your wing in the ways of gameboy fandom?  Did you know that the NES and the original Game Boy use the same size buttons?  Try it! I know you've got a tri wing screwdriver...

120
Yeah, just like double dragon.  I dunno, I guess a big expansive 3-d world would have been way cooler to see for wario considering the treasure hunting aspect, and Wario world feels sort of stilted and stiff because it's still pretty much "move to the right".  Some levels eventually branched out and so forth, but I always wanted more.  I think that the wario games get Nintendo's "b" effort to much.

I felt they really botched Sword of Mana,  the game play was mostly the same, but they needlessly embellished the plot and turned it into a pretty standard Jrpg affair with whiny lead characters.  "But we can't kill the dark lord he deserves to live!"  Wherein the original there was no questions, simply killing.  Plus they took out the chocobo!  Honestly though, it's probably much better than the original, but I have strong memories tied to the original.

121
I disagree, I don't really think it plays like a warioland game in 3d, it's not even "3-d" unless you think double dragon is in "3-d".  This is getting off track though SO...

I'd like to see:

A boy and his blob, just to play it
Final Fantasy Adventure, so I won't have to worry about the battery in my copy dying
Kirby's Star stacker, because it's awesome
Revenge of the Gator, best pinball game ever
And if import games ever become a reality, I would love to see X, the first game boy game with 3-d graphics.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Away: Shuffle Dragon comes to America

I played it.

It's very mediocre.  The gameplay never surpasses "just okay".  And it also had some bizarre translation quirks (one character drank "garlic juice" and hiccuped and stumbled his way around).

I picked it up at gamestop for ten bucks, and that really does feel like the appropriate price.  If you pay postage I'll mail it to you KDR...

I'll extend this offer to everyone, unless it's agianst the rules, mods? (I'm new don't kill me!)

123
I don't count it, the emphasis on exploration isn't as prevalent, and the fighting is a big focus.  I also don't count Master of Disguise, and I don't think it counted itself either.  It could be argued,  but it's wario WORLD not wario land: brawl or some such.  Unlike the Mario series where "super" ties the main games together, there are only 5 (or 6 with the VB depending on how you feel about it) wario LAND games, and they are all awesome.

I do like Wario World though, it's a good game and very underrated.

TalkBack / Re: DSi May Face Shortages
« on: March 28, 2009, 03:14:45 AM »
I've got some insider info!  I work at best buy, so I know how many most of the stores in my district are getting.  My store is getting 36 of both colors, and the other smaller store in town is getting 12 of each.  The rest of my district stores are getting anywhere from 15 to 20 of each.  The ad minimum is probably 12.

I suppose that is fairly small.  But I'm not sure if they will be huge day one sellers, I haven't received any questions about it, and people are surprised when I mention it coming out in a week.  If they do sell out I would assume the black to sell out quicker, because I'm assuming that only core gamers know about it, and that the majority of core gamers would prefer black to the blue.

That said, I am going to preorder one at a gamestop as soon as I can (as best buy, being fair, will not hold one for me).  I used to work at a gamestop, but have lost all my contacts so I don't know what that front looks like.  Bosshog  (MNCDover, love the comic!) might still work at gamestop?  I'm sure at least one of us does, and whoever works in any sort of retail should speak up and let us know what its looking like!

Saying Wario Land 3 is the same as 2 is a pretty big overstatement.  2 was set up with branching paths, but there was no telling which path you were taking.  3 had a dynamic overworld, that had you fetching items that would affect older levels, and a (mostly) linear progression.  I'd say they are 2 pretty unique games in there own ways.  It's not a Super Mario lost levels situation where it's some sort of map pack.

Yes they use the same engine, but they each have their own unique flavor.  The whole series is worth playing, it's still fairly young (Wario Land shake it being the 5th installment[or 6th if you count the virtual boy]) and its interesting to see where its heading.

I personally preferred 3 to 2, it plays a little better.  4 was my favorite though, and I would like to see it as I have lost my copy.
