Nintendo Gaming / Is this a glimpse of the future? Blu-Ray Disc ...

In terms of processor, I would love to see Nintendo go with IBM and PowerPC again. IBM have got their new PPC chips up to 2.4ghz. Just picture that...

Nintendo Gaming / TRSTS Sales Thread
« on: March 04, 2003, 03:20:51 PM »
NHL2K3 has sold 4000-odd on GCN. In January it sold a mere 16 copies more than NHL 2001 on PS2.

No wonder they're cancelling them.

Maybe the 'box and Ballmer have been supporting each other's dieting.

Then again, maybe not.

General Gaming / Dreamcast games
« on: February 25, 2003, 10:19:48 PM »
oh god... where to start.... (i'm a dreamcast junkie)

jet grind/set radio ("set" in PAL and JAP, "grind" in U.S.)
phantasy star online (don't know if many still play, best to ask around before a purchase)
shenmue (stunning, stunning, stunning)
shenmue II (likewise)
skies of arcadia (superb)
unreal tournament (good port of an excellent fps)
soul calibur (duh)
rez (you have to play this game)
resident evil: code veronica (likewise)
grandia II (great game)
sonic adventure (it's sonic, nuff said)
sonic adventure 2 (likewise)
headhunter
marvel vs. capcom 2
crazy taxi/ct2
space channel 5

and many more.  some ign writer best summed up the dc with this...

"the candle burns twice as bright for half as long"

it is a shame it didn't get the support it did... imagine it now with PDO, JSRF, SMB, Beach Spikers and many more. it would be unstoppable, sega's dreamcast days were arguably some of their best in terms of output with consistently innovative and consistently excellent titles. enjoy gaming heaven.

General Gaming / Xbox loses $380 million for Microsoft
« on: February 04, 2003, 12:04:35 AM »
Sega and Microsoft have always been close, so it would make sense. Segasoft worked directly with Microsoft employees with some of their PC titles, Dreamcast could use WinCE technology, and as a result, every Dreamcast contained the Windows logo on it. However, it is also odd in that i've always seen Sega as the Apple of the videogame industry. Innovative, but crushed by competitor's dirty tactics, bad luck and bad business decisions. Mind you, Microsoft devoured a portion of Apple too.

Nintendo Gaming / Sonic Adventure DX
« on: February 02, 2003, 05:27:37 PM »
Sonic Adventure rules. Sold me my Dreamcast. When I first played it I remember being stunned at the graphics, as beautiful game in it's day, and i'm sure although it won't look to snappy compared to newer titles, it is a title EVERY Gamecube owner who hasn't played it before should get. The Sonic Adventure have IMO always recieved a far worse rap from the press than they deserved.

edit: and yes, it is better than SA2, provided you like the adventure side.

Anyways, does this forum have [img] tag or whatever?

Instead of avatars, you could let people have an image in the signature.  (Just limit the pixel size to like 400x200 or something so people don't put high-res full screen ones).

Is that something you would be willing to allow though?

What makes anyone think anyone else wants to waste their bandwidth on some lame picture so they can feel a little more special and individual. Rick, I doubt you would follow the pics in sigs idea, but in case you happen to be even considering it, DON'T DO IT.

Please.

agree with the speed, this board seems to render way faster that the old one, and the PGC homepage.
lookin' good.

edit: and please no avatars. i know alot of people want them, but i honestly could care less about which lame little picture is forced on my minimalistic bandwidth. or at least an option to turn them off.

Nintendo Gaming / GameCube's Appeal to the Teen Audience
« on: February 01, 2003, 07:32:59 PM »
I think for a start, Nintendo needs to sack their advertising firm. The majority of U.S. ads i've seen, suck. Remember the Sega Scream? Of course, you do. The ad was hip, and hooked a lot of 18-30 year olds on Genesis. It was cool. Watch Mallrats, Swingers, Gen-X comedys, the people in them don't play Nintendo, they play SEGA.

I also think the need to start spending some REAL money. $6 billion in cash. $6 billion. Spend at least some, guys, remember, it takes money to make money. It's all about the culture of arrogance that seems to exist at Nintendo. It's like someone forgot to tell they weren't dominating the market with 95% like in the NES days. Sega learned the hard way about a culture of arrogance and it cost them badly. Not putting DVD in Gamecube was a f**k up. I don't want to hear about how it is "just a games system". Everyone I know who owns a PS2 has games for it as well as using it as a DVD player. Sega KNEW they were making a huge mistake not putting DVD capability in Dreamcast, they wanted to, it just would have cost them too much. Whereas Nintendo had the money but didn't. I predict in 5 years time we'll look back on that as the Gamecube's downfall. This was a confused muddled rant but I think I have some pretty valid points. Reading Sega's history made me realise that Nintendo is making those mistakes now.  If you've got a lot of time to burn: http://www.atani-software.net/segabase/
