Movies & TV / Re: All Things Netflix! Now With Original Programming!
« on: August 04, 2016, 11:10:55 PM »
Stranger things is great. Literally can't say anything bad about it. It also would work wonderfully as a book.

My wife and I finished Stranger Things last week. I can't say enough good things about this show. Lately, I've felt that movies and shows have lacked the magic that I enjoyed from 80's movies. This show captures what I love about the movies from that period and makes it their own.

I'm up for a new game (though I plan on switching to a new name once Mafia is over). I just don't know how to play. What's the best thread to learn the rules for this game?

78
It was already mentioned in the "New Movies and TV to Watch for" thread but there a crossover storyline involving all 4 shows next year But I think it will only be 4 episodes long. 1 in each show. Still, I'm looking forward that. Last year's Flash/Arrow crossover was really good and in general, whenever the shows crossover a couple characters into an episode, it generally seems to up that show's game for at least that episode like the King Shark episode in Flash and the Flash/Supergirl crossover. Hope they keep that trend going.

I've loved both crossovers WB has done for Flash and Arrow. Last season's crossover was especially good, though. While I enjoyed Vandal Savage in Legend's of Tomorrow, I felt he was at his best in this crossover. Whatever the WB plans for with the four show crossover, I'll be excited for it. Especially can't wait for the next season of Legend's of Tomorrow, because I'm a huge fan of the JSA and those team members. Here's hoping Mr. Terrific manages to fit in somehow.

Going to see Suicide Squad tomorrow with my wife. I'm one of those weird people that didn't hate BvS (didn't love it, either, but it wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be). My expectations aren't super high for it, but I'm hoping to at least enjoy the characters.

The one day I have family plans and it ends up being one of the most decisive votes the whole game.

My apologies everyone, didn't mean to make you all wait.

GG Lucario, I have a lot of respect for you having to play most of the game on your own.

But with that said, I vote for Lucario.

80
Man, this has been a crazy round. I don't think getting rid of Hypo is a wise decision, and while while NWR_Insanolord is still shady, I'm not ready to vote him just yet.

I'm voting for lolmonade.

Khush, our esteemed host,

I like the way this guy thinks. I'm sure there was some other stuff in that post but I think I was able to whittle it down to its bare essentials.

Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed that. If you hadn't sent that mass PM, I wouldn't be here now, so there's truth to that. I think I'll definitely stick around on the forums, even once the game finishes.

General Gaming / Re: Your favorite boss battle from a recent-ish game?
« on: August 01, 2016, 01:02:08 AM »
Oh man, Northsea... you're going to LOVE doing a solo O&S. it's SUCH a good boss fight because of how well the two of them compliment each other's move sets. That fight keeps me on my toes no matter how much I play it.

You know, thinking about it, Dark Souls was 2010, so Saying some of Catlevania Order of Ecclesia's bosses wouldn't be foul.

it's so hard to name just one from the game. Goliath, Rullusca, Dracula, Eligor, Blackmoor, the fish thing from oblivion ridge...

I might actually have to go with Barlowe for a favorite boss fight. he's fair with his tells, but the battle is still intense to dodge all his attacks. the medal feels like it's doable without Glyph union spam, but it's surprisingly trickly.

At least it's not like Albus where he can end your bid for a medal with the random bullet. I really think the game should have given you melio Scutum before him because it's so annoying to have a fight end on getting randomly sniped.

Also Albus mode is amazing. <3

I both look forward to and dread the solo O&S fight. I plan on taking out Snorlax first before Pikachu, as he's slower and easier to get hits on, but that can always change. I struggle with the mobs in Dark Souls 2 as it is. Any time I have to fight two or more enemies in Dark Souls, I tend to default into panic mode. Even with the Four Kings, I managed to beat each one before the next King showed up.

Ah Order of Ecclesia, I never made it past the giant skeleton boss. I liked the design of OoE, but at the time I wasn't looking for a very challenging game. While I enjoy the Souls series, I don't usually find punishing games fun. But I respect OoE, and wish I could've seen the bosses that were deep into the game.

Ouch, sorry Spak, Shy, and Mop. :( Just to explain myself, I thought Spak was mafia, because he kept voting for Stevey, a player who has yet to appear in these threads, when we know both the Mafia and the Killer are active. I simply thought he was trying to stay out of conflict just so he could keep striking us. My apologies Spak.

Now, I had a post detailing all of my reasons why I think Insanolord is mafia, but I'm going to retract my vote for the moment. Something doesn't feel right at the moment with the joke votes for him. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'm going to table the vote for now.

But I'm keeping my eye on you, Insanolord.

I'd actually say that the two mini-sanctuary guardians that spawn in Sanctuary Guardian's boss arena are harder than Manus. still, it's all relative to build and such. also, Shoutouts to Kalameet without Hawkeye Gouh's help.

I'd probably still put O&S above all that stuff, but all the artorias of the abyss stuff is great on the overall.

I didn't even bother trying the mini-guardian duo, as I imagined they'd wreck me if I tried. Likewise, I didn't even dream of facing Kalameet without Hawkeye Gough's intervention. I wasn't speced out for a ranged battle to take him on. Kalameet was the only boss I brought a summon in with me, as I could never get him past half health when trying to solo him.

O&S, though, that is a great boss battle. I'm going to try them solo on my next try, or just take Solaire with me, as my two sunbro summons absolutely wrecked them and squandered the challenge completely.

85
Hmm, for this round I will vote for Spak-Spang. The votes seem very spread out this round, though.

86
Great job townies on a successful first round! Let's hope we can ride this momentum and get to the end with as few townie deaths as possible.

Vote for Stratos.

87
Vote Dasmos.

Just trying to make it through to another round.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Nintendo is releasing the NES...sort of.
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:31:45 PM »
While I own most of these games on VC, I definitely will be buying one of these when it comes out. I do wish it could play cartridges, but I'm still happy with it. I watched the retro ad Nintendo put out for this, and it mentions that the games are in HD. Is this true? Because if so, that's even better. I loved how crisp the retro games looked in NES Remix, and would be excited if all the games look as good as they did in that compilation.

I've been playing Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 on Steam for the past month, and I've run into a ton of memorable boss battles there. My favorites that I've encountered so far from from Dark Souls in the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

The Sanctuary Guardian

This boss is a manticore that can breathe lightning and poison you with it's spiked tail. You meet the Sanctuary Guardian as soon as you step into the DLC. He's fast, aggressive, and can quickly kill you, especially since the arena is about ankle deep in water. I had to stay close to him, lay into the monster with my halberd, and heal up when he was jumping away. I felt a genuine adrenaline rush when I put him down.

Knight Artorias the Abysswalker

I had much more trouble with Artorias than I did with the Sanctuary Guardian, taking about fifteen tries to down him. Artorias is so fast, he could take me out within moments of starting the battle with his homing leap attack. What I love about this battle is that it feels like a one on one duel. You're facing an opponent who wants you to put him down, only having a shred of humanity left in him. He jerks around a bit like one who is possessed, and you feel like you're doing him a service by ending him. It's hard to heal in this battle, and dodging is much more important than blocking. I ended up using a great shield and switching to my claymore to have a fighting chance to beat him. When I finally killed him, I felt a true sense that I had grown in skill in Dark Souls.

Manus

Many players consider this to be the toughest fight in the game, and it deserves that title. Manus hits like a truck, and uses dark magic once you get him down to half health. Thankfully, the game provides an item that you have to activate to absorb his magic, as well as a summon to distract him so you can heal. Both those tools helped me beat him in three tries, but it was a tense battle through and through.

Having not played a Mafia game since 2009, it's exciting to sign on and find a few votes headed my way already. Glad to see I'm not completely forgotten, and it's good to be back!

First round votes are always a bit of a shot in the dark. It's so easy for me to accidentally kill off an important townie than actually hit one of the mafia. Really, all it takes is just for a name or two to get thrown around to find your first victim. I get why I have a few votes, as I'm bit of an unknown player, so there's the wildcard element.

It's tempting to vote Dasmos, just as there's a few votes slotted against me already. I don't begrudge him for his vote, as I might have to vote for him just as a method of survival, but I hope it doesn't have to come to that.

I'll probably wait until tonight to make my vote, as I'll have more information to work with then. But remember, this honey badger does care, and he cares for this town.

(Signs in for the first time in years)

Since the call was sent out over PM and I was invited, sure I'd be up to play!

I'll take the humble honey badger if that hasn't been spoken for.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Should Final Fantasy 7,8 and 9 be on the DS?
« on: January 19, 2010, 03:01:12 AM »
I just want FFV to be remade for DS. I've been holding back on picking up the GBA version hoping they would release a DS version for it. If there's not an announcement by this Christmas then I'll give up and get the GBA one.

As for if VII, VIII, and IX should be on the DS, I'd say why not? The more the merrier. I wouldn't pick up VII, but I'd pick up the other two. I'd like to give VIII and IX a second chance.

Pictobits is one of the first things you should buy. It's a fantastic puzzle game with a Tetris DS presentation. I also picked up Aquia, Boxlife, Precipice, and Mighty Flip Champs. They're all fun in their own ways, but I'd suggest watching Youtube to get a feel for them.

Thorium Wars got some good reviews. It's kind of like Starfox from what I've heard. Bejeweled and Bookworm are also available, if you're into super casual puzzle games. Haven't tried them out, but I think they're probably solid.

I'd also suggest waiting for Shantae when it comes out. It looks great for a downloadable title.

I wish I could, but it wouldn't help me in getting up for class in the morning. I'll have to schedule another time so he can join in.

Honestly I'm fine with moving it back. I need to write anyway, so that will give me some time.

I'll probably do that when school ends for the summer. I'm also supposed to do that with Lost, but I don't think that's going to happen before season 6 starts. I've seen most of it, but not much past season 3.
