Hey, NorthSea, I was just wondering where you've been. I haven't seen your around here much recently. Though it might also be that I still think of you with that penguin/bird/thing avatar you used to have.

Yeah, I took a few weeks off since life was a bit hectic. Haven't had much time for gaming except for weekends. I'll be posting more often, though. I still have those Pokemon in a box you asked for awhile ago. If you ever want them, or any others, let me know! Also, the avatar was Puck from Animal Crossing. He lives in my village, so I decided to play as him.

You had to chase the three 'spirit' legendaries in D/P/Pt so I'm sure the gerbil chasing will return as well. I never successfully caught them. Though I have a number of cloned master balls from Emerald I can transfer to help make the job easier.

It's not so hard when you know the trick, it's just time consuming. The most annoying one to catch was Cresselia, since you have to randomly catch her in a body of water.

I remember doing the 'starter collecting' when I had the original Blue. My sister had Red and she decided to start her game over so she gave me all of her important Pokemon and let me restart the game a number of times to get and trade off a bunch of the starters before she started her new game for reals.

On a random and different note, I still have on of her old Pokemon and it is the oldest one from all our games. It is a Charizard. I think it lives on the Pokemon Stadium game cart or my Gold cart. I almost wish that Pokemon got stronger as they aged in real life. Imagine if you could pull out your old 'experienced' monsters and whale on new trainers today.

Yeah, I did the starter collecting stuff when I had red and blue. It's easier to get through the game with Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur on your team.

I also like your idea about Pokemon aging, though I'm not sure how it would work with the leveling system. Maybe age will somehow be factored in for a future release. Maybe each time you imported your pokemon from a previous generation, they got a bump in stats.

Washington is a beautiful state. I went there on a trip once and didn't want to leave. You'll have a lot of pretty scenery to view.

Early 2010 is probably a safe bet when the remakes will be released, especially if they're released in Japan this fall. Diamond and Pearl came out in April '07 and Platinum was March '09.

I hope you don't have to chase all three of the gerbils this time. At least you don't have to beat the game three different times with different starters to get them like in FireRed and LeafGreen.

They did it once, I don't see why they couldn't have done it again.

One of the things that frustrates me about the series is that at one point you typically are forced to grind in the wild. I prefer to fight other trainers instead of grass grinding. If they added the past region where you could keep battling trainers up until you faced the Elite 4 then I would be happier with the game.

The original RBY series was the worst about this. Once you defeated every single trainer in the game, you could only face the E4. I restarted my files time after time because I hated just fighting wild Pokemon.

GSC fixed it a bit with the telephone system, which kind of carried over to at least Emerald. Diamond and Pearl have it right with the Rematch Checker. While it's annoying that you have to recharge it after using it, it's much better than the older games. Also, the series is pretty good about adding lots of content after you beat the E4. Now you can face your rival every weekend, or go do some other events.

I do hope Kanto is still in the remakes.

Just finished the last podcast of your E3 coverage last night. All of you did an incredible job giving us impressions and information. I'll be busy reading them for awhile. I hope all of you got some rest after all your hard work.

I picked it up, but haven't made it too far into the game. The concept had me intrigued from the moment I heard of it on the IGN podcast.

The only controls are to move around and to flip pages. There's no jumping whatsoever. There are parts that require you to fall off a ledge and flip pages to progress where you need to. When you fall off a ledge, you just fall in a straight line and can't move left or right. Overall, the game gives off an Adventures of Lolo vibe in a way. You're stuck in a puzzle, and you have to figure out how to get out.

Road Trip to Mop it up's house!

Who's with me?

I agree, N64 multiplayer is still a ton of fun. Congrats Mop_it_up on completing your collection. I'm rebuilding mine after foolishly trading my n64 and games a few years ago.

Those videos are gorgeous. Wayforward is doing a great job with the game. The shouting is a bit overdone and hopefully will be toned down, so I don't have to turn the volume off while my wife is around.

If there was a spot for it, I'd have to say Earthbound. It's my all time favorite game. Both FF6 and Chrono Trigger are fantastic. I ended up playing both in college around the same time.

I think FF6 has the stronger story. There are more story moments that stick out in my mind, whereas Chrono Trigger doesn't have as many. That's not to say that CT doesn't have a great story, but FF6 has a much deeper one. I'll always remember the opening scenes in Narshe, anything involving Kefka, and a certain scene involving Celes.

Chrono Trigger has the stronger gameplay, and is in my mind the superior game. While I enjoy FF6's battle system, CT's is much more fun. I love the tech system, and it made you think about who you were going to bring along for different bosses. In FF6, once you started getting Espers, your characters started to blend in together. In Chrono Trigger, each character had more of a chance to stand out and be different.

I was hoping we'd hear some news about Fragile during E3. It's great that it's getting localized. Fragile just looks like it will be a unique experience.

I think it's worth picking up. It's good for playing in short bursts and has a pretty cool concept. Pieces of colored blocks fall down, and you have to match four of the same color, using blocks that are at the bottom of the screen. If you don't manage your blocks quickly enough, it's easy to get overwhelmed.

Has anyone else picked up Art Style Pictobits? I thought Decode was next on the release list, but I'm happy Pictobits came out instead. It's almost a perfect companion game with Tetris DS with all the 8 bit Nintendo nostalgia.

I've considered playing, but I don't want to hold my team down due to my work schedule. I don't think it would be fair to play and not be able to be around to plan with everyone. That's why I haven't signed up.

I know the Nintendo Power RPG special from earlier this year had a good write up about it. Is there anything you want me to look for in the article to put up?

140
I know it's just a remake, but I'm glad there's going to be a new edition of Gold and Silver. I tried picking up my old copy of Gold last year for fun, but I'm just too accustomed to the changes Ruby and Sapphire brought. It's been a long time since I played through Gold, and I don't think I played it as much as Red and Blue. Since I hardly remember anything in it, playing through the remake should be fun.

141
Sands of Destruction looks great in motion. I've been looking forward to the game since the Nintendo Power article on it. I'll have to hear more of the game to see if I like the voiceovers, because I don't care for the main character's.

After looking through my list, I realize I have a lot of catching up to do. Even if I didn't buy another game all summer, I'd still have lots of games to choose from.

Games I'm playing through or need to finish for Wii:
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Klonoa
Animal Crossing
WarioLand Shake It
Pikmin
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Okami (if I can finish Zelda)

Games I will play through or finish on DS:
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest V
Pokemon Platinum
Sonic Chronicles (made it to the second half, but haven't touched it since)

Games I hope to buy this summer:
Arc Rise Fantasia (Amazon lists it for June, but I've also heard it's coming in November)
The Conduit
Excitebots

I was finally able to pick Klonoa up today. It's been a title I've been interested in since it was announced in October. I'm a sucker for platformers, and I was never interested in Klonoa for Playstation for some weird reason. I've played through the first two bosses, and the game does not disappoint. The visuals look colorful and vibrant, and the music in the game is fantastic. I'm so glad Namco put the game out here, and I'm really hoping they put out at least another one on the wii. I'm going to have to track down the GBA games, too.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: DSi owners' thread
« on: May 10, 2009, 04:42:21 AM »
I traded in my DS lite for the DSi. I debated whether to wait for the next Nintendo handheld system or upgrade now. The L trigger stopped responding a few weeks ago, probably due to massive pokemon playing and that I take it everywhere. I use my DS every day, so I decided I should upgrade rather than find a way to fix it.

So far, I'm very happy with the trade. I like the new matte finish on it, as it doesn't feel like it could slip out of my hands easily. I didn't think the voice editing and camera stuff would be interesting, but it's pretty fun to mess around with.

I also downloaded Art Style: Aquia and the browser. The browser's kind of slow, but it's pretty neat to have. I didn't know if I would enjoy Aquia, but I've played it more than Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits, which I picked up at the same time. I'm loving the music for it as well. I still don't know if I want to download anything else yet. I know Warioware is short, and I don't know if I'll get much use out of Mixed Messages. Hopefully, Mighty Flip Champs will be coming out soon.

So I just found the game with WiiSpeak for only $40 on Amazon and decided to get it with my birthday money. Should be getting it in a week or so. Expect my FC up shortly. I've never played an AC game before so I'm highly curious about trying it.

I'm glad you decided to check it out. AC is such a fun game and so different at the same time. It's just nice to pick up and play to relax. I hope you enjoy it.

HA! It worked! I tricked them into thinking I was the doctor! Ha HA!...now if only it helped us win.  :-\

I know man, my bad.

Well North Sea the likelyhood of a role coming back that early in the game was slim. As I mentioned on Day 2 they probably got 2 townies. They did get back 2 townies.

Oh sure, I knew the likelihood of it was low, but there's still that small chance. In the end, it turned out to be nothing, but when it happened I wasn't happy.

Alright, since I have some time now, this was how I played my game.

Going into this game, or any mafia game, I knew I would be at a disadvantage. My work schedule conflicts with when most of the debating happens. I have the choice to either take a shot in the dark, and be the first to vote, or find a way to vote at work. That usually involves calling my wife on my break and have her check either who my allies are voting for, or how the game is going. It's not a fun way to play. In the Animal Crossing mafia, BFS was voted out because of a tie that I couldn't stop. I never mean to play under the radar intentionally. That's just what has to happen, unless my schedule changes.

Anyway, once the game started, I told Maxi my role. I knew if anyone could get me to the detective and be effective in my role, it was Maxi. Sure, it was a gamble, but since he was just mafia in the last game, I went with it. It ended up being a really good move. I protected Maxi until he found vudu for me. From then on, I did my best to keep vudu alive.

The only three people to know who I was were Maxi, vudu, and Stratos. Since Stratos told me his role, I felt I could trust him. I also stressed to them that they couldn't tell anyone else my role. I guess that saved me, because Pale could've been told who I was, and that would've been the end for me.

Ultimately, I made the mistake of pulling for Daaamaan's elimination. When vudu said he came up townie, I was so sure he was the GF. His previous votes all pointed to it. Once that failed, I felt like we needed to hit one of the other two people we were sure of being mafia, being NickMitch and Oohboy. When NickMitch started getting votes, I felt like it was a trap. When Oohboy was so quick to vote for Nick, it seemed like he was trying to lead a bandwagon for a mafia victory. Finally, I made the mistake of switching protection from Vudu to Pale, because if Pale was a townie, I thought he'd go next.

I should've stuck with my suspicions I had last week. ThePerm and Pale were two people I had picked as probably being mafia. I wonder what would've happened in the game if the RABicle PM situation didn't happen. However, the Mafia played a great game, so again congrats to them.

While I'm disappointed at the outcome, it was an exciting game to play. Congrats to the Mafia for the win. I'll post some more about what I tried to do in the game tomorrow.

I'm voting for Oohboy because I think what he did early in this thread was shady.
