Developing story: Telltale has laid off 225 of its 250 employees. The remaining employees will finish Walking Dead Season 4, and then the studio will close.

I was a big Telltale fan since the original Sam & Max Season 1, but it's hard to argue that Telltale hasn't spent the last 6 years since Walking Dead Season 1 spinning their wheels & pissing away all their goodwill. I did love Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and Batman S1, though.

The convenience argument Adrock makes is probably true to for the average consumer though, so in that regard you're right that Sony has made it much easier to play PS1 games than Nintendo did for its older systems (from Wii points, to no SNES on most 3DS models). But I don't know if the "absence makes the heart grow fonder" cliché entirely holds up, as NES/SNES weren't technically absent... Less conveniently available though for sure!
Never underestimate the power of convenience. Trust me... on THIS one!

For a Star Fox 2 equivalent I think Sony's best bet would be the localize a title that hasn't been released here.  Maybe there's something that was only released in Japan and Europe that's already in English that North American gamers would appreciate getting.
I did a quick search and I didn't find anything particularly interesting, though I'm not very familiar with the games. Maybe Monster Rancher 2?

The Monster Rancher series would never fly because the Classic doesn't have an actual CD drive. The Monster Rancher games allowed you to create your own monsters by putting in music CDs. And I doubt Sony would spend the time to re-code the game to allow mp3s from a flash drive like they did with Vib Ribbon on PS3.

For me, the lack of Dualshocks; the unknown software lineup; and the $100 price tag are pretty much deal breakers. The PS1 was notorious for its outright ban of 2D games overall, and I think we can all agree that playing a 3D game with a Dpad really sucks.

I say "I think we can all agree" because there are some deranged people that actually like Metroid Other M. :P

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/09/18/introducing-playstation-classic-with-20-pre-loaded-games/

So, this is a thing. $100. 20 games, including FF7, Wild ARMS, Jumping Flash, Tekken 3, & Ridge Racer Type 4.

The thing will be $100 in the US, $130 in Canada. It will include 2 NON-Dualshock controllers, and it will NOT come with an AC Adaptor, apparently learning from Nintendo not including one in the 3DS XL.

Personally, I can't say I'm interested. Most of the PS1 lineup doesn't hold up, especially if we're not getting Dualshock-era games. Not including the AC adaptor is just stupid. I wish they'd have just skipped to the PS2 Classic , what people actually want. At least with Sony doing this, you'll probably be able to actually find them.

I love Darvill/Rip Hunter. He is such an asshole, but the asshole you want and need on your side.... Ava Sharpe is amazing. God damn it Rip, you're one piece of work.

Look, I like Rip but let's get real here...the real star of the show in Legends of Tomorrow is Neal McDonough as Damian Darhk. The dude just gleefully devours the scenery around him & is clearly having the time of his life.

Finished Flash Season 4. Overall, I thought it was an excellent season. DeVoe was a suitably menacing villain without repeating what the show had already done, and I LOVED having the Elongated Man on this show. He brought a nice energy & playfulness to the show that it's been sorely lacking. I don't really understand why people apparently don't like this season.

I will ask this, though: by FAR the strongest power that DeVoe had was the luck power, and yet he almost never uses it once he has it. I realize you have to give the heroes a fighting chance in a show like this, but every encounter with him should just be over the moment he turns the luck power on. It seems really contrived that they decided his favorite power would pretty much be using the gravity power to force choke people.

I think I'll jump back to streaming the rest of Legends Season 3 now. Not in the mood for yet more Arrow angst just yet.

EDIT: OH YEAH...I chose wisely. "Beebo the God of War" has me in stitches with the sheer absurdity of it all.

EDIT 2: CONSTANTINE! *squee*

Someone at Warner Bros. thought the Council of Stereotypes...err.. "Council of Wells" was not only a funny gag, but so hilarious that they needed to do it 5 times to pad out various episodes of Flash Season 4.

That person presumably still has a job.

I swear there was a throw-away line that "Wally is with the Legends..." or some such.  I'm so burnt out on the DC shows, they're just background noise now.

Yeah, I get being burnt out on the Arrowverse. That's where I was last year. That's why I took a year off & am only now catching up on it.

Oh, so apparently the reason that Kid Flash completely vanished from The Flash after he returned from his "finding himself" journey was that he joined the Legends. You know, it would have been nice if this was actually established IN the Flash itself, rather than the writers just assuming that everyone's simultaneously up to date on every other Arrowverse show.

Yeah, OK the Crisis on Earth X Crossover miniseries event was much better and more cinematic than the previous year's Dominator crossover event. For one thing, there were actual personal stakes this time, not to mention more than generic aliens for the teams to fight.  It also had a fantastic send-off for a particular character that felt earned & not cheap.

Could've done without the Supergirl writers jumping in & adding some meta political commentary with the crew fighting Nazis ("Punching Nazis felt just as good as I felt it would!"), but it wasn't that noticeable and overall the miniseries was quite enjoyable.

I also love that the writers found an excuse to bring Snart back, as he was one of my favorite Flash characters.

Strangely, the gun control episode of Arrow didn't really bother me, as it felt like it tried to show both sides of the issue, and in the end the message wasn't so much "guns are evil and should be banned" as "guns are dangerous and people need to take care of them better." It also led to a very good story beat for Mad Dog.

I was much more bothered by scenes in Supergirl like Maggie's father ranting about how the world hasn't changed because "THEY'RE BUILDING A WALL TO KEEP [MEXICANS] OUT!", a rant that not only brought me out of the show, but also doesn't make sense because Trump isn't the president in the Supergirl universe. They had a whole episode the previous season about their president offering amnesty to literal illegal aliens.

I shouldn't have a better understanding of the Supergirl universe than the writers.

Watching last Season's Arrowverse up to the big 4-show Earth X crossover event. I originally bailed on these shows last year after their first episodes because 3 of the 4 completely cheated their previous season finales.

Watching them now, so far I think it's safe to say that Arrow needs to end. This season feels so played-out, so lacking in inspiration. I don't know how it's going to differentiate itself once Batwoman also enters the picture and basically does the exact same show.

Flash feels like it's getting back to the more playful, light-hearted romp it used to be, so I'm happy with where it's going so far.

Legends of Tomorrow feels really inconsistent this season, but like the Flash it still remembers that it started as a fun adventure series and it seems to be toe-ing that line so far. With the return of foes from other shows, it also feels like the show where the most is happening right now.

Supergirl is still fucking intolerable. I gave the first season a pass because it was pretty even-handed with its politics and it eventually grew into its own a bit, but Season 2 is when the show started leaning heavily on the writers' personal politics and Season 3 is going all the way with that. The show constantly makes Trump references, which makes NO sense considering the Supergirl president is an Open Borders woman and Trump doesn't seem to exist at all.  Pretty much every white man is either useless or evil, assuming a man is even on-screen at all (which is rare outside the main cast).  I'm still enduring the first 7 episodes of that show, but so far it feels just as terrible as ever. Ironically, it's also the only Arrowverse show that didn't immediately brush off the events of the previous season.

I have consistently said that my favorite Final Fantasy game on Nintendo consoles is the black sheep of the family (Crystal Bearers for Wii).  I don't know what to do with my life now.

One day, I'll get around to playing my copy of that game.

This is why announcing a game years in advance is a terrible idea.

There’s also a disconnect between what fans have been asking for and what Square Enix has announced it is planning. Fans pretty much want Final Fantasy VII with fully 3D high definition assets, and to that end, farming out the remake to an outside developer makes sense. Said team would largely need only oversight and supervision especially if given the PC source code.

But Square Enix practically wants a brand new game with the original scenario as the skeleton for the remake. It has very specific aims for this project and trying to relay all of it to an external, contracted team it doesn’t have direct day-to-day involvement with was only going to be a disaster. The best thing that happened to the remake bringing it in-house last year. The second best thing that can happen to the remake would be for Square Enix to be less ambitious particularly if it doesn’t want to devote the same amount of resources as a new project.

For anyone wondering why Square Enix is releasing the origin with a remake in development, my best guess is the company is changing so much of the original game with the remake so it can sell people two versions of the same game.
No the best thing to happen to the remake is for Nomura to be kicked off. I need to get back to my stupid kingdom hearts thing but from what I've heard Nomura is really good at managing projects, hence why FF15 was rebooted 18 times until he was kicked out of that mess.

And yet, Final Fantasy 15 STILL released unfinished and largely dissatisfied people, and Square Enix has had it in AAA Early Access for years. With the DLC coming out next year, they MIGHT actually have a finished game.

Personally, as someone who didn't love FF7 when it came out, I'm happy they're stripping that PoS down and rebuilding it from scratch into a modern game. I just wish that didn't also mean that that was pretty much all Square Enix was making for the next 5 years outside of yet more Marvel garbage and Just Cause.

Remaking FF7 was a fool's errand. You keep it basically the same with new graphics, and its dated design detracts from people's memory of it as a good game. You completely rebuild it, and you piss off the people who haven't played it in 20 years and remember it as better than it actually was. Yet, here we are because heaven forbid the FF7 fanbase doesn't, for the first time in their lives, get something they demand.

In case I'm being too subtle, I despise the entitlement of the general FF7 fanbase. They've had 3 games, a movie, and multiple animated spin-offs (not to mention cameos in other games), and yet that's still not enough so here we are. No other Final Fantasy fanbase gets catered to as much as that one, and no other Final Fantasy fanbase is as whiny.

The Final Fantasy 7 remake is never coming to Switch, though mostly because it's not coming out in the Switch's lifespan...or the PS4's...or the Xbox One's. Square Enix has so spectacularly screwed up their handling of that remake that they just restarted from scratch. At best, it's 4-5 years away.

Ah, okay. Is FF VII a port of the PSX version? Or has there been some enhanced re-released that I missed? If so, is there changes to that? I remember the original translation being kinda wonky.

Both FF 7 & FF 9 had enhanced ports that were basically the PSX versions but with built-in cheats like the ability to turn off random encounters, instantly refill your life & limit breaks, speed up the game, etc. That was ported to PS4, and that's presumably what those are. FF 10 & FF 10-2 will be the HD versions released on PS3 & PS4. FF 12 HD will be a port of last year's PS4 HD remaster.

Here's the original tweet where they announced the acquisition.

Besides the poor production values & overcomplicated tables, I just don't like the ball physics in Zen's tables. Pinball Arcade was so much tighter.

1218
Well, I don't have this.

And now you never will...  :'(

Man, this still stings.  Even though I owned a bunch of tables, there were at least a dozen there I would've enjoyed playing and didn't get to before the licenses disappeared.

Still a good reminder to go enjoy what I've got though... Love some pinball action.

Unfortunately, we now know what happened to those tables: Zen Studios bought the license, so now we can look forward to shitty recreations of them in Zen Pinball/Pinball FX.

Seriously, I hate Zen Studios' fantasy tables. They tend to be overcomplicated & have astoundingly poor audio production values.

Awesome. Weird that Square Enix skipped FFVIII.

Maybe we can get more Final Fantasy tunes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Given that FF8 is the 2nd-worst game in the series (after 2), it's understandable. The only way to salvage FF8 is to completely scrap it & rebuild from scratch.

If you've never played these games, I guess it's cool that they're coming to Switch. However, I already own all of these games on at least 2 platforms, so I can only shrug. Maybe more people will appreciate FF 10 now.

One Direct later, and it looks like Nintendo's online service is still worthless. OK then.

Meh. No one cared about this game when it was the big headliner early-years Wii U game, and I can't say I care about it now.  3D World was the one people actually wanted brought over.

1222
Luigi's Mansion? Dang, if only Nintendo had an HD handheld that they could port GameCube games to. :(

Wait...a console...that you could port games to that can virtually emulate previous consoles? You fool! That would never work! We'd better stick to rented updated ROMs of shitty NES games!

Seriously, I don't get how Nintendo thinks a rented selection of 20 mostly-terrible NES games is a selling point for this service.

1223
Henry Cavill not coming back is a shame.  Sure, his movies were terrible, but I think it had more to do with the writing and directing.

Ben Affleck is also reportedly leaving.  I still haven't seen Justice League, but I liked Ben Affleck as Batman in BvS.

Yeah, honestly there was only one problem in the hero casting for these movies, and that was Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. Can't speak for the Aquaman actor, because I don't think even DC knows what his character is. When the actors were allowed to be their characters, they were all fine.

Now, Jesse Eisenberg on the other hand...ugh...

1224
I'd be content if DC just focused entirely on their animation & television divisions, which (aside from Supergirl) have generally been fine.

With the increasing power of geek culture, I kind of wonder why people still seem to think we need terrible Marvel & DC Live Action movies for legitimacy.

Spider-Man (PS4)
This game is incredible. Definitely the best Spider-Man game ever made.

I'm still quite partial to Shattered Dimensions, just due to the variety of characters; styles; & locations. Still, I started playing this game after work, and I look up now and it's 1:30 AM so it must be doing something right. It's a very good game, but it's definitely full of the usual Ubisoft Open World issues (a map full of icons, radio towers to unlock said icons on the map) and Spider-Man game issues (repeating audio, repetitive side content). Still, you can't beat the sheer amount of polish Insomniac put into it.

How does it FEEL to explore NYC as Spider-Man in the game?  That's always been my biggest hangup in the more recent games.  I try not to idolize Spider-Man 2's swinging, but there was a momentum and speed coupled with some of the upgrades in that game that made the experience of just traveling through the city joyous.

It feels excellent, as I see web swinging elements from several different Spider-Man games that give you a great deal of control over where you're swinging and where you're landing. Incidentally, I finished that game last night for Platinum #159.
