TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Direct Scheduled for Wednesday
« on: February 21, 2012, 08:49:14 AM »
(Annotation of my first post.) Especially seeing that Reggie is going to have one tomorrow also, we will get some 3DS title news. But hopefully we get some indication on whether they are going to change the WiiU's name or not. (Not expecting anything in the form of software until April/May)

Considering that they said they would release some Wii U news as we get closer to E3, we may get some here.

TalkBack / Re: So How Many Xbox 360s Do I Need to Duct Tape Together?
« on: January 27, 2012, 11:09:17 AM »
Well if you are using IGN as the source of these more powerful figures. I think that the 2X more power came from their assumption that it was using the R700 architecture, now they have changed the rumored architecture to the RV770. (I'm using the GPU because that is what is being called 6X more powerful in these rumors.) Which would  be a "more powerful" GPU then the original rumors.

One a side note dealing with rumors as the only "concrete" information can make ones head spin anyways.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Controller to Feature NFC Functions
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:43:52 AM »
Most things you can throttle/turn off, plus I'm thinking it will not be an always on thing. Only if the software is asking for the service. For example Credit Card readers, if the register isn't asking for the information most readers are in a stand-by mode and will not read the NFC function. (We have readers at work, nice innovation to have to keep the magnetic tape from wearing out.)

As for parental controls I think the same will be in place for what they have for Credit Cards normally for the Wii/DSi/3DS.

I'm hoping it a simular service to what they had in Japan for the SNES. (Though it is hoping quite a bit) Though I hope they have a unified service that bridges their devices it got to be simpler for them and us if they do that.

Definitely going to get this.  It looks like an amusing use of the AR abilities of the 3DS.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U to Feature an App and E-Book Store?
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:33:30 AM »
Nintendo currently has a "app" store for the eShop and the prices are free-to-1.99. And the Nintendo made apps make up most of the free apps. And these are usually the only apps worth getting. (Swapnote, Pokedex3D, etc.) So I really don't get the Nintendo prices comment. Even with the games on the 3DS they are fairly well priced. One of the most expensive games is cut-the-rope at $8 (which is expensive for a game of that type), it seems the developers of the game seem to think console owners are willing to pay more for a game just because it is a game, which is a mistaken view. We are willing to pay more for a game that we know is deeper and took the developer's resources to make, unlike cut the rope where you can beat in one sitting and get most of the stars in all levels in that time. TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Removes Name from List of SOPA Supporters
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:04:53 PM »
Well it doesn't look like the ESA is backing down. So the three console manufacturers and most US developers are still indirectly supporting the bill. (The thing I find funny in this is perennial "bad-guy" publisher Activision/Blizzard isn't a member and I don't think supports the bill, which will be a first time they will not be on the receiving end of hate of something going down in the video game market.)

I wish I had more money. I have to add more to my eShop account. (I'm a penny short on getting this...)

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Backs out of SOPA Support
« on: December 31, 2011, 10:51:03 AM »
The only problem and something some people are stilling saying Nintendo and Sony are still supporting the bill is the ESA is still a supporter which Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo among thirty some odd US developers are a member of. (The ESA organizes E3 and help legally defend the game industry in the US.)

But there is a sign that the ESA may also back out: EA, Nintendo and Sony have all removed their active support of the bill and they are some of the bigger companies in the ESA. (Microsoft never really supported it, but they are also memebers of the ESA.)

Interesting concept. This game I can see where it would benefit from AR, so hopefully it comes to the US.

Really isn't anything that surprising. Probally will hear more about it tomorrow (tonight) from the Nintendo Direct broadcast.

If it comes out of Japan I will probably get it. I love both Pokemon and SRPG games so I'm all set for it.

I have been having trouble logging into the site for the past few months. Finally got it to work.

I guess someone at IGN is organizing a letter campaign to have people send a letter begging for the games to come out, included with an optional gift. I guess this has worked before for TV shows. Where the fans snail-mail spammed the CEO of the networks.

http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/203345328/p1 - Contains sample letters for each game and when they should be sent so they arrive at the same time. (Three letter mailings, one for each game.

TalkBack / Re: Developers Were Working with Underpowered Wii U Kits
« on: June 16, 2011, 09:41:39 PM »
Well they are using early units, all early SDK's are underpowered compared to what will be released to make sure that any games made using them will be able to run. The kits are upgraded as the hardware is finialized.

118
Well that is interesting, and the 4000 seems to be what IGN believed it was before E3. I have a 4000 series in two of my comps and there is nothing wrong with them.

119
Well it doesn't surprise me that they used the other console's footage for the Wii U. The developers already have a working and stable engine for those consoles so it easy to working demo playable or not. And from what I have read the two games that were running on the Wii U hardware were ruff around the edges. So it would look better to use the footage running on the other consoles.

TalkBack / Re: High-End Game Engines Getting Wii U Versions
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:06:24 PM »
Well that is at least four engines now that are going to make the jump to the Wii U. I wonder if indie friendly engines will make the jump, such as Torque, which has a Wii version.

There is still a slight chance, especially if those titles get a European release since the Wii U is backwards compatible. It could be used to pad sales.

I would like them to release a wavebird-esque, controller with all the button but not the screen, for multiplayer games.

It seems that in the past few year Australia has become more strict on games thanks to the effort of one of their Attorney Generals Micheal Atkinson efforts. (At least that who they blame)

General Chat / McDonalds to have Pokemon Toys starting June 17th.

McDonald's will have a set of 8 toys from Black and White. (Though Pikachu is toy #1) They will include a random card from a set of 12 for the TCG.

TalkBack / Re: Killer Freaks from Outer Space Preview
« on: June 10, 2011, 08:41:03 AM »
Well this is really interesting. And it was Ubisoft who first jumped on the bandwagon with the Wii. So at least we are getting strong support from EA and Ubisoft which is kind of promising if it lasts.

Oh here is a vid of the presentation with it running, at least the demo with the controller using the gyroscope.
