NWR Mafia Games / Re: Mafia XLVII: Hollywood. The Happy Ending Version.
« on: October 31, 2010, 07:43:59 PM »
Is the idea of recruiting members to the Mafia really a good one? Especially when they can turn back into townies. What's stopping them from telling the townies who the Mafia are?

The mafia would logically run the addict in a cell system where the only mafia contact they get is from the dealer. There would be no direct contact with other members. All info passes through the dealer. Then if he becomes a turncoat the others are safe.

This is what we certainly would have done.  But even then, it presents inherent risks towards the other mafia members.  For example, what would Nickmitch have done if he recruited thatguy and then thatguy wanted to go after me?  He can shrug it off and try to get thatguy interested in someone else, but thatguy will have a pretty good idea that I'm probably mafia.

Wow, only a year after it was released!

Wait ... this review is for the original Band Hero?  I just assumed there was a sequel that I somehow didn't know about.

Plants vs. Zombies is available for $0.99 through Halloween.  I finally get to see what all the hub-bub is about.

EDIT:  Yeah, so it's pretty much as great as everyone said it was.  Well worth the regular $2.99 asking price and a steal at $0.99.

I didn't say your shitty thread violated any forum rules.  I just didn't want it to be a valid thread.  And since I'm a mod and you're not there's nothing you can do about it until MegaByte gets bored and unlocks it.

Nooooope!  Since you died on the first vote, your hit was dismissed.  If I died, it means your mafia buddies killed me, but not you directly.  Mwahahahahahaha!

Duh--I'm smart enough to know I shouldn't be the one to submit the night action when I'm about to get voted out.  That doesn't mean I'm any less responsible for your death.

Super Scribblenauts is ultimately very similar to the first game. If you loved it, you’ll likely get a lot out of this level pack. If you've never played Scribblenauts but you're curious, it's this game you should invest in, rather than its predecessor.

What if I loved the idea of the first game but absolutely hated the execution (controls, puzzles, everything)?  Is game still worth checking out or should I skip it completely?

The entire game is slow-paced for the franchise, with really dull music and seemingly little musical interaction. Some enemies make sounds when the die, but they all take several hits to kill, so it never feels like you are interacting with the music.

This is what I was afraid of.  The trailers made it seem like there wasn't much interaction with the music--guess they were pretty accurate.  :(

Runner wasn't very good for music either IMO, there were some obstacles that just sounded awful.

Shut your mouth.  Runner had fantastic music and the interactions were top-notch.  It's by far my favorite Bit.Trip game.

General Chat / Re: Rate the Last Book You've Read
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:11:29 PM »
Okay, I lied, one more book: David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. I won't give a lengthy review, but this is one of my top 5 books of all time. It's really long, but I only found one small section in the story to get tedious. If you like to read, this is a MUST read, it is masterfully written and just an amazing story.
9.8/10

I haven't tried David Copperfield, but A Tale of Two Cities is ranked at #2 of my "worst books that get a lot of praise" list.  (For the record, #1 is The Sound and The Fury.)  I've tried reading it 2 or 3 times and every time I lose interest quickly.  I just can't stand Dickens' writing style.

Oddly enough, I'm currently reading Drood, which is a alternate take on the last few year of Dickens' life.  I'm enjoying it very much and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a suspense novel.  I have no idea how much is based on fact (presumably parts but certainly not the majority of it).

What the frick?  Well, it looks like one of us is going to get voted out and I'm too pretty for radio so it can't be me.  VOTE MOP IT UP.

Sorry, but you really didn't think Birdo would make it in Hollywood, did you?

There are a good handful of songs that would really benefit, like Mr. Crowley and most of the NIN tunes.

March of the Pigs without true keyboard support was always a bit funny to me.

Did Dan Brown do a 3rd book in that series that would warrant a 3rd movie? was there a book after DVC that follows the same guy?

Last I heard he was planning on writing one. Don't know if it has materialized yet.

It came out last year and is called The Lost Symbol. I am actually reading it right now. It's set in Washington, D.C. and has Robert Langdon trying to track down his missing mentor Peter Solomon and figuring out this Masonic Pyramid that the villain of the book wants. It deals with stuff like Noetic Science (like most concepts in Brown's books, this is actually a real thing). I bet Ron Howard can't wait to film the movie as the book is set in places like the Smithsonian Museum Support Center, the U.S. Capitol and it's crypts, and other places in the D.C. Area. I love the book so far.

I literally heard nothing but bad things about it.  I might have to check it out when it comes to paperback.

We need a Rate the last book you've read thread.

Nice to see another title from Square-Enix on the Virtual Console, though I have absolutely no interest in Mystic Quest.

But now there's nothing standing between us and Final Fantasy II (VI).

The World Ends With You is arguably the best original RPG available on the DS.  If you like non-traditional RPGS and you haven't played this game you're doing yourself a disservice.

They had Southern Tier Pumking on tap and a wide selection of craft beer in bottles; the whole Budweiser thing I mentioned just came up in conversation.

Pardon my saying so, but I don't think you're going to the right kind of college parties.

All my Wii stuff is white--I want a bundle with a white controller.
