Nintendo Gaming / RE: PSP vs DS
« on: November 01, 2004, 04:02:31 PM »
The Buzz does not seem to have hit where I live yet, I have yet to see a single PSP commercial, which is understandable because the system isnt coming in the states for a while.  I have seen a couple of the DS commercials with the 2 blue rectangles and the woman saying "Touch it."  It seems to me that sony is gonna try to make people think that the PSP is TeH ShIZnIt, and that the DS is as Ken whats-his-name put it "the Pikachu System" (that was a despicable and ignorant thing to say, and while I am nuetral to Pokemon, Many casual gamers will see this as a negative).  NIntendo will do what I consider the more noble route and concentrate on the DS' innovative features, they are off to a good start with the "Touching is good campaign."  One thing seems sure and that is that marketing will be crucial in this battle, and if nintendo fails it could very well be VERY bad (perhaps leading to The death of the Big N later on down the road).  It would be devestating if Nintendo lost its strangle hold on the portable market.

LOL on kurst_chao.  Unfortunately the casual gamers are really important, and it would hurt Nintendo really badly if it were to lose them.  Unfortunately, since Nintendo has had this Kiddy image lately it may prove very hard to keep the casual gamers from making the switch to the PLAYSTATION Portable.

The PSP will sell, there is no doubt about that (how well is a different issue).  Many casual gamers are gonna see a PSP and a DS next to each other at gamestop and think SONY or NINTENDO?  Knowing casual gamers, need I say more?

One thing that no one has seemed to mention about the PSP is the durability (I think the screen has been mentioned once or twice).  Not only will the screen be exposed to the elements, the PSP has moving parts, I would think that means more things that could potentially break (I am not sure about this though).  Of course no casual buyer will think about this when they pick up the DS and the PSP.  anyway I am routing for Ninty, but Sony seems to wanna put up a good fight.

As they say;  Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

« on: October 19, 2004, 12:00:58 PM »
PaleZero: yes, one of the first clues did said that we will find out mid-october,  But one of the clues in the warpPipe forum (thank you blackNmild) said that we will find out "after we are demasked, and before we carve our turkey" (not an exact quote).  That Probably means that we will find out after halloween and before thanksgiving.

VideoGamerJ- it is all very confusing, but all or atleast most of it has a common theme, isolation, and separation, they seem to be suggesting Demasked as a solution to that.  I am thinking something that will make internet gaming more personal somehow.

Whatever it is, WarpPipe is putting out a lot of hype, I certainly hope it is not a let down.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: metroid hunters story mode ?
« on: October 17, 2004, 03:25:01 PM »
Probably the reason we havent heard a lot about the story mode is that Nintendo has been concentrating their metroid efforts on multiplayer so that it will be ready for First Hunt at the DS launch

That game was great, one thing I remember though that could be annoying, or kinda fun, was the gate to get onto the ski-lift at the bottom.  That thing could make the difference in a close game, with everyone fighting to get on.  I remember sometimes 3 people would be fighting over it, and then a fourth person would just go by everyone else and get on, and the other three people would just go "d@mn", lol!

Actually Nintendo has been trying to get rid of their "kiddy" image here in the U.S.  I would not be surprised if they used a song like that, knowing what people associate it with.  They might not use the parts about sex and drinking, just the touch part, and let the song's reputation speak for itself.

After all the lyrics you mentioned in Hikaru's song (I still remember the ways that you touched me) are not very innocent.

Other than graphics, the only thing that the PSP has going for it is the SONY name.

Dont you worry, I do not think that nintendo would come up with all of these features without having a lot of stuff in mind for them

I agree with Cheat Freak, there is something wierd with Ninty refusing to show the back of the DS.  Possibly some feature that they are being secretive about, maybe even something to do with the warp pipe rumors.  Of course it could turn out to be absolutely nothing, but it makes me curious.

Edit:  nvm I just realized that they showed the back of the ds in that japanese commercial, not in very much detail though.

yeah, those will make it easier to pocket my games without having to worry about them.  Also dont have to worry about dust or anything getting in the cart, (is dust going to be a problem with these carts?)

You can tell, because the one on the DS is black. That really gets those guys all worked up. He'd probably burn his DS, if he could see it. What a creepy psycho.

dean, another person at nsider who's in the loop, has specifically stated it is NOT a gps system.

There are other ways of locating another ds without gps,  your DS could send out a signal to other DSes, and the other DSes in range would send a return signal.  Your DS would judge the position of the other DSes by how long the signal takes to return, and what direction the signal came from.

then you could have green beat blue, a rock paper scissors sort of arrangement (red beats green, green beats blue, and blue beats red)

I think they put on the "while supplies last" because nintendo wants people to think that if they do not buy the ds now, they may not be able to get the demo.  They probably will have the demo come with the ds for a while though, if not metroid then another one down the line.

yes the gc is cheaper, but you have to keep in mind that the PS2 was not sony's first system (thus the name PS2).  With DS vs. PSP, sony is entering into the handheld world for the first time, and since handhelds are different from consoles, the Sony name alone may not be enouph for sony to beat the DS, but then again it may.

it is possible (not easy) to do things with the wrong hand.  I normally am right handed, but I was a lefty for a month when I broke my wrist skiing.  I do feel bad for you lefties if it turns out that some games dont consider you.

General Gaming / RE: How about that Game Gear?
« on: September 27, 2004, 05:13:32 PM »
The problem with the game gear was that, because of its technical superiority, it had a really crummy battery life (sound familiar *couph psp couph*).  The battery life was especially bad because the thing took 6 BATTERIES.  It was a neat handheld other than that, and the fact that it was the biggest handheld ever.   The Gamegear did fairly well, but I think that it may have some competition from the psp as the closest to beating nintendo (in handhelds).

just goes to show you that Sony, in their success, has gotten arrogant (I know that price is not official, but we know that the price will be HIGH for the psp)  They think people will buy a mega-expensive hand-held, becouse it is from sony.  Unfortunately, sony is not the first to do this, we all know that Nintendo's arrogance is what put them way behind sony in the days of the N64.  Of course some rich snobby kids will buy it just for the hype, which I am sure sony will generate, but the sales of the psp are probably not gonna be very good.

Fortunatly it looks like nintendo will still have the handheld market by the balls for a little longer.
