Nintendo Gaming / MGS on GC - How Would it Handle?
« on: March 11, 2003, 04:29:41 PM »
anyone who is versed in the ways of gaming would know what you're talking about. For those who aren't, kill yourselves. Haha.
I also have an article from IGNCube (Matt Cassamassia's editorial on August 21 2000) saying how much Hideo Kojima thought the PS2 was hard to develop for. Here is a direct quote:

'Even Hideo Kojima, the demi-god behind PS2's flagship title MGS2, has optimistically expressed issues with the hardware: "When PS2 was first announced, Sony said you could get Hollywood movie graphics quality, and that is true. But if we tried to create MGS2 trying to maintain that quality of graphics throughout the game...we cannot do it. If you take a game like Tekken Tag (a fighting game from Namco) where you only have two models and rendered backgrounds, you can probably do it. But with MGS and it's 3D evironment, you just cannot do it." '

and:

'MSNBC: Did you have any idea you were going to get such great graphics out of the PS2?

Kojima: "I was actually expecting something much better, and we were not getting what we expected. In the early days, I dreaded going to work because I knew we were not going to get what we expected." '

If they had so many problems with the PS2 version, surely making games on Gamecube, especially MGS2/3, cant be THAT hard would it? Geez.

Oh, and I actually printed that editorial out. When the Gamecube was announced, I printed out everything there was about it. Articles, Pictures, I even have the original speech from the then newly formed IGNCube of Howard Lincoln's announcement of the 'Dolphin'!

I don't live in the US, and I don't know where Guatemala is, sorry.
But you can pre-order Zelda pretty much on any online store. IGN, Amazon, Ebay, yeah. If they don't give you the promo disc, sue them. Just check them out first. I don't know if PGC sells games tho.

Love Hina's an anime about a situation that we would all LOVE to be in. It's about some guy in an all girl apartment building. Talk about lucky. Maybe. There's bound to be loads of problems, but you have to watch the anime. I've never seen it, so yeah.

And yeah, Monkey and Mario should stop selling death sticks and rethink the way they're living their lives. I mean, RE0 being out is a cause for celebration, but $110? COME ONE CAPCOM/NINTENDO! If two game discs cost 110 dollars, that would make one disc games 55 dollars! We are being ripped off! ARRGH!

Two years?
That's longer than the Gamecube has been out!
If it's only a port of MGS after so much time, well, people from a company staring with K are gonna be killed.

Nintendo Gaming / Is the Dennis Dyack that posts here the real deal?
« on: March 10, 2003, 02:11:20 AM »
Damn. Now Denis can be anyone. Or anyone can be Denis......

I think that he doesn't even need to post on the forums. Just one look at any thread about ED is enough to get feedback, and looking at the Too Human or Silicon Knights threads would be enough to see what gamers would like in their upcoming games.

It is cool to see that the game development staff of Nintendo are among us.

I think Microsoft held the XBox exclusivity of Halo for so long, that I don't think that many people will buy it for people, since many would have gotten the XBox just for this game.
I played the game for a while, and it was sh!tty. The music was tops, but everything else sucked. The frame reate dropped too often, and the sound effects just didn't convince enough. The gameplay was alright, but it just didn't have that 'feel'.

Grand Prix huh? I was wondering why there was a lack of Mario on these forums.
When I bought ED, I showed the guy at EB Bankstown a catalogue for Games Wizards, and got a further discount. So I got ED for $88, rather than the usual $99. But you know what? They guy didn't ring up! He just told me, on the spot, that "yep, we do that here". So, I'm gonna try it again with SMB2, although, with the stories you've been telling me, it's probably not going to happen. And Domayne probably aren't gonna get a new shipment of Gamecube stuff anytime soon, if all the GC stuff was crammed onto a table, that was more filled with GC carry bags than GC Games.

Quote by Mario:
-------------------------------------------------------------
*Approaches his cube, attempts to flirt with it, gets rejected, rapes his gamecube* BAD GAMECUBE!

Uh, are you OK dude? That was just plain weird. But, you've been away for a week, so, yeah.....

Nintendo Gaming / Music in Games
« on: March 10, 2003, 12:51:22 AM »
Nintendo's use of midi is far too evident in this generation.
I mean, on the N64, it wasn't really CD quality sound (the only game that sounded clear was Mario 64 - everything just sounded muffled, some more than others). I think they should get better midi systems. The midi in SFA, Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Mario Party and Luigi's Mansion was just too obvious when they tries to make the music sound orchestrated (the brass, horns ans strings). Nintendo's soundtracks peaked with Super Smash Bros Melee, with all that "OH MY GOD I KNOW THIS THEME" type of music. And some orchestrated. The reason why Metroid Prime isn't being knocked is because the music is sort of techno and meant to be like that Even the orchestrated part sounded good (Talon overworld), cause it sounded like Eschebone from JFG. I don't know also, how Silicon Knights did the music in their games. If it was orchestrated, then great, but if it was midi, then f**k! They should give thier midi systems to Nintendo. That just sounded like good audio.

Also, the music in Mario Sunshine, just didn't sound good enough. It was too basic. I think they should go for something like Rare did for Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and DK64. No more of that Barbershop Quartet thing with the finger clicks and the "doo doo doo doo" and whistling of the Mario theme. That was just bad.

I think that the fact that it's coming to Gamecube is good enough, but, as many of us would say, there ARE limits as to if we would buy it or not:
- If it's a STRAIGHT port of MGS, like Capcom are doing/have done with RE2/3: Nemesis/Code Veronica, that would suck big time. Konami would say "look, we did for you guys, and this is how you repay us, by not buying our game?" and would give an excuse for not developing GC games. After all, if their biggest franchise didn't sell, what hope would their other one have?
- If it's a straight port of MGS2 or Substance, then well, that's OK. At least we're up to date. But I can't see why they wouldn't want to improve the graphics of the game, since I thought, as with most PS2 games, the graphics are pretty blurry. But then, Konami have been lazy so far, so anything can happen.
- Remakes of these three would be excellent. Or, if they made only MGS2/Substance, then why not include MGS for the keen gamers? I would get it for sure.
- MGS3 would be even better. The thing is though, I think they should bring it to Gamecube first. Not only will we get it, but it will tempt those who need it to buy the game for Gamecube, or buy a Gamecube just to get it. The sales might be poor, but at least then, Konami will have the PS2 and Xbox to fall back on.

There is one thing for sure, though, and that is that Nintendo have to push this HARD. GLOAT that we've got an MGS game!

And what is MGS Integral and Gaiden? I'm only aware of MGS1/2/Substance.

BlackGriffen: Sorry bro, but you lost me after quoting John Squire.

But all these theories could point to a sequel, or a prequel even, and with the advent of multiple projects at SK, ED0/2 could be possible.

OK. First up.
Today, Sydney's 'Sunday Telegrapgh' newspaper had a Domayne catalogue in it. It has it's famous 50% for all Gamecube games and accessories sale back on, and it's on until the 30th of March!

Second. I went to Domayne (Auburn, NSW), and found no Super Monkey Ball 2. Damn. But you know what? For a Gamecube sale, there was nothing there. I got there, and i was like "WTF? Where's all the GC stuff?" I looked around near the XBox and PS2 shelves (3 massive shelves), and even the PSOne shelf, then the GBA shelf. I found the GC stuff in the middle of the aisle, all crammed on ONE table. Hell, there was more memory cards in the big crate than there were games. The weird thing is that there was not one Gamecube shelf anywhere. The PSOne and GBA shelves were 10 times bigger. The Gamecube console boxes were on the floor near the display unit. And there were 9. Did I miss the initial rush? Or was this it?

I think you should just forget going to Domayne, and show the catalogue to EB then get 60% off. Sick.
And SMB2 comes out on the 14th now, so that's OK.

Infernal and AiAi: EB should give it back in cash, since it IS a deposit, not an actual payment. If you go ahead with purchasing the game, the deposit just goes into the total price, so you'd only have to pay the extra 80 or so dollars. If they gave it back in EB gift vouchers, well, sue them.

weird, but hey, anything with Miyamoto on it sells.

Hey! Good going there Berny!
The four or five instances of the yellow magic used in the game can be used as spells for the next game!
And Savior? Geez, I don't think anyone ever saw that one. It's pretty coincidental for Alex Roivas to be the Savior of humanity.

Nintendo Gaming / limited zelda in Australia

Lucky I pre-ordered then.
But that is a shame.
We've gotta get news from Nintendo of Australia first though.

Sean: I don't know of any limited edition. If you're talking about the pre-order deal that you guys got, then no. I don't think that it's coming out here. But if there is only that many Wind Wakers shipped here initially, then there should be absolutely no problem with Nintendo of Australia giving the two free Zeldas for those that pre-ordered Wind Waker.

Man. I was just about to make a new topic about this. It's all over PGC and IGN as well.

And what's this with Miyamoto-san's involvement? That is REALLY interesting!
I think we're getting closer to the 'see you stats on the GBA' era. Nintendo just needed something like this EA deal to see if it will work, and now I think it will. But then, 20 titles in 12 months? Holy Crap.
That's a lot.
At least we've got definite sports games coming, and MIyamoto-san was as good as his word from his D.I.C.E interview.

General Gaming / XENOSAGA: World's Largest Game = 8.5 gigabytes
« on: March 06, 2003, 01:27:55 PM »
People always judge a game bfore they play it. I've done it countless times, but only when I'm trying to convert someone over to Nintendo.
I remember when I was in Year 8 (1998), I read a review of Turok 2 in NMS (Nintendo Magazine System - An old NIntendo mag in Australia), and it got 100%. I saw things like the cerebral bore, and I instantly said how cool this game to other people. "Look! There's this thing called the crebral bore and you can....", "This game is the coolest!".
I finally rented the game, and it just sucked big time. PLaying Goldeneye for so long put me off this game. The frame suced, the fog was too great, and the sound was muffled like a speaker wrapped in 40 feet of sponges.
ANd that is my story of judging a game before playing it.

So I'm sure Xenosaga is a great game, as is MGS2, despite the numerous cutscenes in both.

Here's my bank card, I say.

Yellow Magic? How come I didn't notice the meaning behind THAT before?
It was there on the walls blocking my path, it was there on the floors making me lose health, and, oh! There it is in the cut scenes warping Pious and Karim into the temple!

Another GOD? One that even the mighty (or dying) Mantorok fears? Holy Sh!t!
I think this might be related, but if you notice, the normal spell runes are also yellow, and they only turn red, green or blue when you align them with the Chatturgha, Xel'otath or Ulyath runes.

With all this talk about this newly dicovered magic source, and a possible new God,
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Redemption is coming for sure!!

And who are you Reverse_Gecko? Who do you work for? Are you a developer or something? Coool!
And Dennis, you guys at SK made Eternal Darkness one of the greatest games ever. It's great to see this level of depth and polish in a single game.
