Get an Xbox, if you like OSs on consoles.
So many people have hacked that, it's not funny. My friend has some custom Xbox OS that allows him to burn games.
Neato.

NOT.

The portable GC screens were released here in Australia for like 2 days before they disappeared. I think. So there's bound to be some PAL GC screen out there in the world.

Reader Reviews / RE: Harry potter and the chamber of secrets reveiw
« on: March 13, 2004, 04:19:05 PM »
My sister bought this game, since she is a HP nut. Here's my review:

Graphics: 9/10
They are pretty much superb - very clear and detailed, although sometimes it gets a bit too bland.

Sound: 8/10
Music ripped straight from John Williams' soundtrack is great, voice acting is pretty good, although you can tell the difference between a Yankee doing an English accent (which is what they did), and it's pretty annoying, especially after hearing so many yanks and their aussie impressions. Ugh. Sound affects are ok.

Gameplay: 5/10
Here's my main gripe with the game.
It's great as an adventure game, since it mimmicks everything from Zelda: Item-button assigning, auto-jump...the whole kit 'n' kaboodle, but all your challenges and dungeons are pretty much void of any point, other than to 'prove' that Harry Potter is the hero and only he can do it. Take this scenario: You go into class to learn a spell. But you don't learn it. The class doesn't learn it. The teacher sends you, Harry Potter, into a death-defying dungeons full of lava-shooting beasts, mace-ridden traps and life-sucking ghosts - to get a spell book. Once you retrieve the spellbook, you learn the spell. Problem I have is that the rest of the class learns it as well, without having to go thru that same challenge.
Here's another example:
Neville Longbottom is stuck behind a 'cursed' wall hanging that won't let him out. Hermione is standing there, waiting for you. You talk to her, and she says 'Harry! Go into the greenhouse and get the spell so that you can free Neville! Only you can do it! Hurry!' How he got in there (other than his own stupidity) is not explained, only that he is there, and that only you, Harry Potter and not the far-more-experienced teachers, can get him out of this 'life-threatening' situatution.

There really is no point to the while game, other than that it leads to the final boss battle with the Basilisk, and you, Harry Potter, realising that it was the diary of Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort as a student (ooops, can't say his name! But i DID! OH NO!) that was behind the murders at Hogwarts.

All in all, it was an easy game, with much trial and error style gameplay.
The only saving grace of this game is flying on the Nimbus 2000 and Quidditch. Flying around Hogwarts gets pretty boring after a while, but it is damn fun. Too bad this free-form mode wasn't expanded further than just providing a few rings that give you Jelly Beans - oh wait. They're 'Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans'. Quidditch is fun, for the four games you play, and learning to play is quite good too.

Too bad Quidditch World Cup is just balls.

Replay Value: 4/10
Once you play it, you won't go back. UNless you are dumb enough to try and collect every wizards and witches card, cause it becomes a game of 'Rememberance', since you have to remmeber who has what card so that you can trade with them later when you have teh card they want. Wind Wakers Nintendo Galley was more fun.

Connectivity: 4/10
As with most GC/GBA link games, the fact that you need all these things to get some secret levels and whatnot is pure frustration. Good thing my cousin has teh GBA CoS game, and a GBA. But this sorta thing isn't really a good even as a gimmick. But it does get the money exchanging hands for die-hard fans.

OVERALL: 6/10

General Gaming / RE: Xbox2 = No Hard Drive?
« on: March 13, 2004, 01:45:22 PM »
Listen, I reckon the only way of making the whole hard drive thing work in consoles is if they make them so that they can ONLY be read by consoles, instead of simply using PC HDDs, like MS did, which lets people pirate games and 'upgrade' their XBox HDDs.

Perhaps it'd be good if they made the console-only hard drive like a huge version of a memory card.

I, personally, prefer using a memory card instead of a hard drive.
That flash thing sounds good.

Well the guys chucked a hissy fit over my accidental 'linking' of the image in my post, so just ask Mario

I thought we could just simply copy/paste the URL. Why does it turn into a link, and not stay as unlinked text?

the only rare games i';ve played and enjoyed in multiplayer are Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Tooie. Conker's multiplayer sucked balls. Jet Force Gemini was also a blaspehmous attempt.

Whoa! Is that for real!
Thats mighty impressive there Shin!

There was one 'flaw' i noticed though - is the Silicon Knights logo meant to be fuzzy like that?

But I will definitely save this and print it off!

Micallef Tonight was cancelled after what, 5 shows or something wasn't it
I think they tried to do something like David Letterman and Hey Hey It's Saturday - that variety genre.

And no, i don't want them to not show the older episodes. I love the older episodes, but they should show OTHER older episodes rather than the SAME ones every six weeks.
The one I would like the to show is teh 138th episode extravaganza

Largo: Twenty. Your move, Mr Bond
Bond: I'll take a hit, dealer........Joker.......you were supposed to take those out of the deck
Homer: Hahaoh sorry. Here's another one
Bond: What is this card.....rules for draw and stud poker?
Largo: What a PIT-TY Mr Bond!"
Bond: BUt....but it was Homer's fault! I didn't lose. I never lose! Well at least tell the details of your plot for world domination!
Largo: Hohohoho I'm not going to fall for that one again

TV guide online is always a help. I never look at it of course.
Simpsons are on at 6pm as always (even though they old episodes), but the new episodes, even if they are crap and Channel Ten knows it, they should leave it at 7:30pm Wednesdays, which is where I'm used to them being at.
And I think the sh*t thing about Ten is that they are showing the SAME old episodes again and AGAIN and AGAIN. I've seen one episode twice this year already.

Kameo wasn't that interesting for me. The only thing i ever did for it was the token cheer of 'yay! another game from Rare!' then I would sit back down and play Mario.
Kameo looks different now then it did on the GC. I for one think it's MS trying to sex-up the Kameo herself. Make her look more bad-ass but at the same time make her boobs and thighs bigger, whilst also making her outfit show a bit more skin.

GOod work, MS.

I do miss Rare. I however didn't 'grow up' with their old games like Battletoads or RC Pro Am, or even Donkey Kong Country on SNES. I was heavily into their N64 games. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie were absolutely mind-blowing; DKR was fun; and Jet Force Gemini, while hard, was absolutely kick ass. GOldeneye and Perfect Dark are a bit of a mixed bag for me. They're cool and all, but games where you have to keep going back and completing the levels in insanely difficult conditions just doesn't do it for me, hence I don't like Rogue Leader/Squadron and Battle for Naboo as much as I'd like to (but I own them nonetheless), and hence why I like Metroid Prime more - it is a Zelda FPS.
Conker was fun, but very short.

Of course, having played the GC, I just can't get back into these games like I once did.

Star Fox Adventures was.....meh-cool. Anything where they tried to be funny was just groan-inducing (the sexy, sleazy saxaphone when he sees Krystal.....in a Sci-Fi Adventure??), and the overworld was pretty much a messy maze.
Oh well, it was ok, but there were too many 'bold and the beautiful' style cliches that no one really likes to see in games that try to be totally epic. The original design of Dinosaur Planet looked brilliant.

The Xbox version of Conker is just revamped graphics, online play, and just to 'prove' that they've shed their Nintendo heritage, they've made it uncut. Full swearing. Wow. Such adult game-play.

Flash animation raelly isn't my forte, as it is for say....Perm.
Live action would be the only way to go for me.
But compression is the obvious downside, so probably a 30second to 1minute thing would be ok right?

While winning this thing would be ABSOLUTELY F**KING AWESOME, I'm merely going to use this for camera-directing and script-writing experience, since this is basically what I'm doing in Uni right now.

But MY GOD! How cool is this contest!
(If this was what happened last year, I didn't know about it )
BUT WOW!

Oh, and like Pale said, would we be able to use footage/images from Nintendo games?
And with the Copy of MGS:TTS, if say, someone in a PAL region won it (like us Aussies), would you organise the copy to be for PAL and get the team to sign that one? Or are the copies already signed, NTSC copies?

General Chat / RE: Nintendo sued over epileptic seizures
« on: March 09, 2004, 02:31:36 AM »
This person should be suing Sony and Microsoft, not Nintendo.
Because surely if Nintendo does everything it can to say that games can cause seizures, short of replacing box art altogether for warning labels, MS and Sony are more to blame.

I would so laugh if there actually IS a game based on the 'hit' series 'Super Seizure Robots!!!!!'

Hahahaha!!

Most of my games tend to be impulse buys (don't groan cause i've said this before. Just sit there and listen ).
My games prowess hasn;t really improved much over the last few years. Anything where you need to go back and get enough points to get some medal or whatever, like Rogue Leader, Bond, GX, is something I don't like to do. To me it's an aweful way to increase longevity.
GX is just plain hard

The interviews are funny. When I first saw it, I thought OMG! I get to choose a question to ask and he's gonna give insight to his life!
"That's a nice machine you've got there"
"haha yeah"

WHAT

Oh well
I find it a very amusing way to play with every pilot. Hahaha. See? I'm laughing - musing i tells ya!

Seriously, I love GX cause I love futuristic racing games. And it gives something for my friends to gawk over when they drop by. 60fps baby - take THAT Gran Turismo!

« on: March 07, 2004, 11:38:31 PM »
5 years....wow.
I've been at PGC for two years now; in the forums for a year and a half, and heaps of people here are my mates.
I don't really remember how I found out about PGC (remember the old grey and green design? ) but it was either from IGN64 or the long-since-defunt Tendo Box wesbite.
Then after a while of internet monotony, i made a 'life-changing' decision to finally join my first forums.
The PGC forums.
Attack of the Clones had been out earlier that year, and my hate for Anakin Skywalker grew to greater heights. And in the interests of using sms-style text, came up with the name 'Termin8Anakin', a nice, symmetrical name

And thus started my new, internet e-life.
Ahhhh, the memories......

Happy 5th Birthday, Planet Gamecube!!!!

BAM!

You know, on Rove Live a couple years ago, he did a What The...? segement that had book covers from the Phillipines. They were all romance novels. One had Brad Pitt on the cover, another had some other celebrity, and the last one had Rove himself on the cover!

You never know where your mug may end up next, Ben
It could be in a picture frame right now, loved for all time by an adoring fan for you role in the hit radio serial 'My Evil Tyrrant, My Love Child'.

Hrhrhr.
