I remember reading in comments on IGN, Game Spot, etc, how this game and Bayonetta were supposedly going to "bring the hard core" gamers to the Wii U. Looks like that was all talk?

They've been saying this for pretty much the last 10 years with the Gamecube, Wii, and now the WiiU.  "YEAH, ____ title is going to be bringing all the hardcores to _____ Nintendo console of choice!"  It's always talk.  Nintendo will never get rid of their family friendly image, and they'll never cater to "hardcores."  The 3rd party companies know this and there will always be a distinct lack of support of content for the console.  I haven't bought Bayonetta 2 or this because like what's been said, waiting for the inevitable price drop or find it used in a few months/years.  I can certainly wait - my backlog is more than enough to keep me entertained for a while.

Now all we need are old-school Samus and Pit figs... too bad Nintendo hates Metroid.

For the record - this has been able to be perfectly (and I do mean *perfectly*) emulated on NES emulators for Wii Since September 6th, 2008. ;) Using the Wiimote as a zapper is every bit as fun as it sounds.  The emulator puts a little 8-bit, red cursor on the screen. AND you can turn it off if you want to be super hardcore!

Extremely biased, one-sided review.  You went into it already hating it.  You came out still hating it.

There's ONE fucking NWS in this entire goddamn country.  Why the hell do they think this is a good idea?

Also - I'm really interested in seeing what Little Mac's final smash looks like while he's in wireframe colors.

No Duck Hunt?  No ROB?

Also, FF6(3), Super Metroid and DKC came out in '94, so it was hard to really care about all those Megaman games.

Maybe we'll have a slutty, Nigri-esque Pikachu while we're at it.

Maybe Hyrule Warriors is the first step to Nintendo actually doing something beyond a standard Zelda game.  Depending how sales go (which I'm sure will be good) they may actually realize that spin-off Zelda games might help turn a profit.  Get out of your comfort zone, Nintendo!

They should have ? Blocks and Bricks and sell them in a set.

"My point is, this is the far better experience if you want a legal, authentic, closer-to-the-original experience that comes with using a GBA and an SP screen."

So, in regards to what the article said, there is a little bit of image retention sometimes (aka ghosting) when playing certain games.  I'm sorry but how is that closer to the original?  Because you have a GBA shaped console in your hands?  Whoop dee do.  Seeing as how that site shows all their systems being sold out or not being made anymore, not to mention they were extremely overpriced, I'm glad they were able to find a market.  But in regards to the "far better" experience, we'll have to just agree to disagree.  When I play games, I'm much more focused on the game themselves, not how much closer to being an "authentic" experience I'm having... if people were so concerned with that all the time, arcades wouldn't have failed in the US.

44
Hey Oblivion, right back at ya! ;)  You're cute.  Net anonymity is awesome, right?

PSP with a GBA emulator is still the best way to play GBA games.  You can pretend all you want you have "better morals" but I'll be enjoying any GBA game I want on my better screen and more convenient way of playing.  To anyone who hasn't experienced it, I highly recommend it!

45
Did you forget that the screen resolution isn't that great? Similar to playing DS games on a 3DS XL. It looks blurry no matter what you do. That trumps anything.
Unless you've experienced it yourself, (which, by the way you responded, you clearly haven't) the "blurriness" is a weak argument.  The games seriously look fantastic in scaled mode.  And if it *really* matters that much to you, yes, you can turn off scaling and play it in standard resolution.

Oh, not to mention that the method in the article isn't illegal.
"Illegal" is relative.  I'm sure Nintendo isn't too happy with people modifying their own hardware and selling it for profit, are they?  But they choose to turn a blind eye to it, much like emulation.

46
Not to put a damper on this entire article but honestly, the "best" way to play GBA games is on a PSP using an emulator, which works near-perfectly.  You can select stretched or non-stretched, and both look incredible and awesome.  The convenience matched with the quality is second-to-none.  Let's see the advantages to playing GBA games on a PSP.

PROS:
Beautiful backlit screen
Rechargeable battery
Change games on a whim without having to swap out carts
Can potentially have every single GBA game released on the market on hand.
Play using 5 different graphics modes including scaled and unscaled (scaled still looks absolutely brilliant, as long as you turn on a filter)
Customize gamepad input to your liking
Save States
Cheats
A few other misc options

CONS:
Sound isn't 100% perfectly emulated, but is sufficient and does not detract from the experience
Not everything in a game might work properly (i.e. can't play Metroid 1 on MZM, but you can always get an NES emulator too ;) )

Sorry for the doublepost but here's some ideas just off the top of my head that could make Amiibos worth purchasing:

-Free or discounted versions of VC games that feature that character in it
-Special costumes for your Mii on the Wii U that are themed via the Amiibo
-3DS camera implementation with use of AR cards
-A Smash Bros MMO which Amiibos can help enhance your Avatar
-Any public event which would allow people to take advantage of bringing their Amiibos with them
-An Amiibo board game that takes advantage of the WiiU

48
I have a local independently-run used game shop near me that has an entire shelf of used Skylanders figures, all hanging in presorted bags.  They had to do this because their glass counter cabinet got too full.  This is what's going to happen to the Amiibos.  They will be collected and sold MIB on eBay until the end of time, and very little else.  It's nothing more than marketing, it doesn't change the landscape of gaming in any form or fashion; it's just another way to sell toys, and milk more money out of parents.  Think of them as physical microtransactions.

For the record - Chain Chomps appeared in Zelda games since LTTP.  There was one in Link's Awakening called BowWow.  It is not a "Mario crossover."  A few people out there are jumping to that conclusion...
