Even the worst Star Trek film is still better than anything to be pushed out of Star War after The Empire Strikes Back.

Possible Screen Shot (removed from the Nintendo Power link)

^added to OP
If that is an actual screenshot of in-game gameplay, then this is a DAY -1 Purchase
yes, I will be getting it before its release date somehow.

The screenshot looks like it's from South Park. All of these NBA players must be Canadian.

Ubisoft should definitely follow this up with a camera supported version (M+ too?) since they are likely the only ones to support the peripheral even though it was made with the help of Nintendo.

The game would then be very, very fun.

So it's a handheld game for what is already a portable, handheld game?

Does it have the lady gaga song its named after?

I had to look that one up. I've never even heard of Lady Gaga before. The song seems like it would have fit in well however. It was "Eye of the Tiger" that I'm still not sure worked.

I could definitely see two M+ controllers (one in each hand) working fairly well.

I can't help but think that this game would have benefited from use of an EyeToy or Project Natal type of device. Hell, even that Jenny McCarthy exercise game makes use of the included webcam to that degree. As it is, the game offers no real reason to play, since it barely recognizes motions in one hand. The title is really for non-gamers that like to watch iPod commercials.

They didn't really "loose" per say.

Good thing that was a typo and not a misspelling then. Phew, barely made it out alive! ;)

They didn't really "loose" per say. The big names, like Disney, simply wanted more restrictions place on the use of their films. Blu-Ray offered this whereas HD-DVD did not. It's not surprising really, as Sony is the one with the film division. I usually don't care much for conflicts of interest, and Blu-Ray is no exception. Luckily I don't have to worry about it, as it will die off in a few years, just like Betamax and UMD did. :P

It's kind of disappointing that the graphics won't be upgraded at all. I can't imagine how terrible those little GBA images will look on the living room TV. Why can't the Wii release be more akin to the attention that Trauma Center received?

I really hope Nintendo improves the pack-in situation with the system. Wii Sports should either be updated, or perhaps NSMB could become the pack-in.

I think that New Super Mario Bros. can sell well enough on its own. Really, they need to make Wii Sports Resort the pack-in and include a Motion Plus.

After playing for a few more hours, Torchlight is definitely a charming game. It's art style hurts it though. I don't mind the cartoony, Warcraft-esque visuals, but the broad, ridiculously bright color pallet makes it difficult to distinguish enemies and effects from one another and the environment. The lack of multilayer definitely keeps this from being worth much more than $5.

Companies should charge less for their games. It's really as easy as that. Oh, and leave out the discs checks and install limits and junk like that. Why would I want to purchase an overpriced game when I can avoid the copy protection hassles for free?

DLC/DRM/DMCA are just scams that will eventually end up forcing people to repurchase games/movies/music over and over again every time you want to play them. If I want to play my copy of snes games, I get a cart2usb adapter and play it. If I want to play Gamecube games I just place the disk in the drive and play it. If I want to play World of Goo on the Wii 2, Well I'm fucked.

Buying&Owning>Renting&Licensing
Disks&Carts>DLC
Women>Porn
Physical>Digital
Installed Programs>Cloud computing

The way the market is going is to screw over consumers by removing their rights to maximize profit.

You know, digital distribution would be awesome if it didn't come with all that DRM. I wouldn't mind at all having to buy everything online, so long as I can then burn that game to a disc myself for safe keeping, or at least stow the .exe away on my hard drive for later installs.

Diablo II with the Lord of Destruction expansion pack is, without a doubt, the best hack-n-slash game there is.

Steam is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in a long time.
And way to go. You totally backed up that statement by listing all of the features and benefits I get with Steam. Again, outside of the friends list, Steam offers nothing of real value.

I wouldn't consider my connection crappy, it generally runs around the area of 7mbps down.

Steam will disappear sooner or later. It will be changed or "upgraded" to something not at all like it currently is. Valve could go out of business and someone else could buy the entire thing and start charging you per hour to play the games you've downloaded. There are thousands of possibilities. Will it happen any time soon? Probably not, but one day it will. That's the problem with not having control over what you've purchased, you're at the mercy of someone else.

If you want to license games with nothing to show for it other than a Steam user name, then go ahead. It doesn't bother me. I however will continue to accumulate discs, so that a decade from now, if I want to play a game, I can without worrying about what's happened to the authentication servers and why the underlying DRM won't install on my modern operating system. Putting faith in a company, any company, is a terrible mistake to make.

Now that we've established that (thanks for dragging it out, by the way), we can get back to the topic at hand: Torchlight. I really wish it had multiplayer. I'm not too thrilled about an upcoming MMO based on the property, but would be excited to play this over the LAN with a few other people. Sadly, I don't think anything will ever have the feel of Diablo... Hell, even Diablo 3 looks to be more akin to WarCraft than anything.

I sure do hate waiting hours to download a game instead of taking five minutes to install it off of a disc. I sure do hate seeing that all-too-common "Steam is down for maintenance" message when all I want to do is singleplayer. I sure do hate DRM--any DRM--as that is what Steam is at heart. Steam is nice for having a unified friends list (and thus VoIP), as well a ridiculously cheap games on occasion. Everything else it does is an unnecessary annoyance. I don't mind paying $5 for a game off of Steam, simply because that $5 won't missed too much when the service disappears.

It's just too bad that Games for Windows Live is even worse, or else the PC might actually have a truly unified friends list for gaming.

Anyway... The game has definitely been worth $5 so far. ;)

This Castlevania Remix is interesting. I would rather have something along the lines of "Symphony of the Night" however. That almost Metroid-esque level structure suits the series well.

This is a warning.  Don't swing the conversation towards piracy again or there will be bannings.
Yeah, better watch out RABicle. Start mentioning piracy a dozen posts ago and see what happens?

Companies do care about the environment! You sound like someone who hates companies, and therefore hates capitalism and therefore America. Why don't you move to Thailand or somewhere, where all the software and movies are counterfeit and sold in cd cases?

Companies care about profits, period. Environmentalism is a fad right now, and thus can bring in profits if companies pretend to enjoy it. Besides, something like this will ultimately cut manufacturing costs anyway, and in turn increase profits. Capitalism is horrid for many reasons, only one of which is the one mentioned above. Thankfully, most of my software and movies are already counterfeit without having to move to Thailand. Though I do hear that the ladyboys there are quite exquisite.

Really though... Why does anyone care about these cases? The DVD case standard is already oversized and cheaply made in comparison to jewels cases or those old Genesis cases. Really people, do you like having shelves and shelves full of ugly game and movies cases sitting around? Buy a few nice disc binders and leave it at that. If you want to show off your shelves, go buy some fucking books already.

In that case hit up your local GameStop and ask if they have any cases they can spare.  I've never tried this myself, but I've been told countless times that they'll generally just give them to you.

Or sell them to you for a premium price...

I also went ahead and got it at the $5 price on Steam yesterday. That's about the only time I'll tolerate Steam... really, really cheap games. :P
