The 10 year life span was a pipe dream anyway. The PS3 already looks dated in many regards. You can't throw in a specialty processor and call it all good for a decade. That's not how hardware works.

I've had Minecraft crash numerous times (it is a sloppily coded Java product, after all) and I have never had it corrupt or loose a save file. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Drag Me to Hell was pretty fun for what it was: an Evil Dead 2 clone. :P

Q: Looking back at the cloud and integrated systems – do you think Sony’s breach will slow people’s uptake of the cloud and damage the industry as a whole, or will people quickly forget?

A: I live in a country where every time there’s a thunderstorm the weather channel reminds people not to drive into water of an unknown depth so I suspect that people will forget pretty quickly.

I agree 100%. I wouldn't want a Nook Color. They're fine tablet if you root them, but they're not reading devices. I like my e-ink. :)

You can get all of the episodes uncensored through various torrents. I really hope they clear up the issue on YouTube however. The second episode is practically made by that one scene with Jax and Kano!

I just loaded the "Wheel of Time" series onto my Nook the other week! However, I haven't started it yet. Too many other titles waiting ahead of it.

There is no way any hard core gamer will take a system with 1/20th the storage space of current-gen systems as a legitimate next-gen system.

I agree. I laugh every time I think about about those kiddie consoles that pale in comparison to the 16TB that is available on my PC. We won't even count the NAS either. ;)

Seriously though. It does seem like a bonehead move if true. Still, about the only thing internal storage is good for is save data and DLC... unless they intend to use it as swap space?

And I hope they learn a lesson through all of this - Don't piss off hackers.

From my point of view, if stuff like this PSN "Outage" (as the media likes to call it) and Anonymous' actions are what the hackers do when a company has the audacity to try to protect their intellectual property, the hackers are out of control and need to be brought down.  Whoever broke into Sony's networks and stole all that information (not to mention those who create custom firmware for the specific purpose of pirating data, which is likely the only reason Sony even cares about the PS3 hack) did the hackers' case no favors, even if it was the actions of a few reflecting badly on an otherwise quiet majority.

From my point of view, if stuff like "taking other OS away" is what Sony does when threatened by the prospect of competition, then they as a company are out of control and need to be brought down.

I've never really used the mine carts for actual mining myself. I have a pretty massive transit system set up above ground though, going from town to town. For mining, I have shafts with cushy pools of water at the bottom at ladders going up the sides. I actually waste a lot of time decorating my mines though, putting in reinforcements and such... I like my Minecraft world to look semi-plausible.

You guys have to be huge Lynche fans.

Dune has so much that is ridiculous and is one of those movies that assumes you've read the books.

Maybe that's the problem then? I'm biased. I love just about everything Lynch has ever done, and I was already a huge fan of Frank Herbert's books when the Dune film came out. Outside of a few discrepancies like the voice modulator, the film is so stylishly done that it's inconceivable to me that anyone would dislike it.

I'm starting to think that maybe you guys just all have ADD... Dune boring?! 2001 boring?! Star Wars = Awesome?! Sad, sad world. :P

I've not watched the new Battlestar Galactica, so I can't comment there. Star Wars never really did it for me the way it seems to for everyone else though. It does some things right, and has a lot of good ideas, but is truly overrated. The first film is sloppy on a multitude of accounts. It's definitely worth watching once or twice, but I've always felt that it receives a lot of undue credit and accolades. The Empire Strikes Back holds up much better and is technically a superior film. It doesn't feel nearly as generic plot wise, and greatly benefits from it. Return of the Jedi doesn't really go anywhere... it just wraps things up neatly. I've only caught bits of the prequels and was never impressed enough to follow up on them.

Dune really must be watched in it's entirety. There are a lot of different edits out there, as Lynch was never completely happy with the end result. The longer the edit, the better experience you're likely to have. The books are also some of the best fiction ever written. It has everything you'd want in good sci-fi: epic scope, political intrigue, religious allegories, etc. I haven't been overly impressed with the way Brian Herbert has continued the series. He's definitely not his father. Still, at least "Hunters of Dune" and "Sandworms of Dune" provide the closure that we've all needed from the mainline series.

Did you seriously just say that 2001 and Dune are boring? Wow.

Star Wars is simply a high fantasy styled story set in space. It's pretty far from what I'd generally consider science fiction. Besides, it is boring. Most people just have a lot of nostalgia for it that clouds their ability to see it for what it is. ;)

I think there's a big different to be found there though. Sony knowingly spread malicious code with the express purpose of damaging the property of consumers. Geohotz just wanted an advertised feature reinstated on his personally owned hardware... something the Finnish Consumer Complaints Board recently thought about.

I'd never be able to narrow it down to just three. My "top" musicians vary on the day, week, or month... from mood to mood. Of course, there are a lot of musicians that stay consistently relevant to my tastes throughout all. How about this... instead of arbitrarily picking three bands on the spot, why don't I just flip through my collection (CDs, MP3s, records, etc) and tell you want I have the most of. Surely that will at least give some indication of preference? :P

The Doors
Led Zeppelin
Nine Inch Nails

Tron Legacy Decent sequel, I wish they had kept more with the original art style.

The updated visuals weren't the problem. They were surprisingly good, if not different. The real problem was the generic, dumbed-down story. They should have taken a few pages from Tron 2.0's book instead of trying to cater to Facebook's "we can barely even turn a computer on" crowd.

It's the coward's way of dealing with a situation, rather than engaging your target in the markeplace of ideas or fighting for change legitimately.

Just like Sony does, right?

I really think the slow death of PC gaming and its correlation with the widespread rise of piracy on PC games can't be ignored (or for that matter, what happened with the PSP and its high piracy rate).

Just like how the entire music industry shut down because of Napster, right? Just like how Hollywood is hemorrhaging money because of low quality cam-rips being uploaded? Piracy is a scapegoat. You know it just as well as the industry knows it. Stop pretending that its the consumers fault that products fail. Sony customers look more and more like a bunch of little Eichmanns everyday.

I've been running a small server for my friends and I since the early Alpha versions. We've all kind of grew disinterested in the game over the last month or so, but I think it's just because we burnt ourselves out with our marathon building nights. We'll go back to it once we cleanse our pallets a bit.

Make sure you get a good texture pack! I 'm not too fond of the full on hi-def ones, but just about anything is better than the defaults. I use a modified version of the "JohnSmith" texture pack.
