Nintendo Gaming / Nitro Bikes - Wii Exclusive
« on: July 12, 2007, 10:57:05 AM »
I didn't see any info on this game.  Made by folks who did Excite Truck 64.  Ubi is the publisher.

New Wii exclusive title: Nitro Bikes. They're showing a gameplay
trailer. The music is all xylophone and then... metal and crazy
destruction etc. Looks a lot like Excite Truck with jet-powered dirt
bikes. Controls with the same sideways Wiimote position as Excite
Truck, too. Available holiday '07. Online play up to six players.

Nintendo Gaming / Madden disc thrashing
« on: November 22, 2006, 05:38:03 AM »
Is it me or does Madden access the disc drive way too much?  The drive is constantly thrashing while playing you're Madden.  It rarely seems to stop.  SEems odd for this type of game.  I can see loading between main menus and modes etc.  But during the game?   Anybody else think this is odd?

Nintendo Gaming / I miss the tiny discs
« on: November 21, 2006, 04:44:29 AM »
The GC discs had a Mission Impossible feel to them.  I miss 'em.

I know the bigger ones offer larger capacity, but games like WiiSports and Excite Truck could be done on GC discs.  Same with other games.

I'd rather even have 2 small discs than 1 large one.  Anyone else miss 'em?  They felt 'hi-tech.'

Nintendo Gaming / USB Thumb Drives compatible with Wii?
« on: November 18, 2006, 02:49:46 AM »
Be nice if they were.  Probably easier for most folks to transfer music and photos from their pc to their Wii.

Oh and how about networking.  Can I transfer music and photos over the network to an sd card inserted into the Wii or to the built-in flash memory?

Some how I think the answer is no given that Nintendo is very cost conscious.

I saw some of this series of roundtable discussions on various sites, but here's the offical one.  There's aproximately 8 parts to it. Hopefully this 'official' version hasn't been posted yet.

Nintendo Gaming / d-pad wiimote change
« on: May 18, 2006, 05:49:21 PM »
Hey check out this wiimote design I saw on IGN's boards.

I think it rocks.  The arrow layout is actually similar to the button layout on the Gamecube controller with up/left/right arrows being equivalent to the Y,B and X buttons respectively.  They could even use the same Gamecube layout instead of arrows and ditch the arrow underneath the A button.

The d-pad is still on there, but at the bottom.

It doesn't look more complicated than Nintendo's design.  Still user-friendly.  Sure would be easier to hit buttons surrounding the A button than hitting  the d-pad where it's located on the current wiimote design.

Nintendo Gaming / Holy Twilight Princess Revolution Batman
« on: March 30, 2006, 07:35:07 PM »
"As it turns out, not only can you play Twilight Princess on Revolution, when you put the game into the Revolution system, you have the option of an "enhanced" mode of the game. What do I mean by that? We will be revealing that at E3, along with our other projects."

The whole interview with Aonuma.

article

"TSA: How about the Revolution controller, can you elaborate on how it will work with Twilight Princess?

Aonuma: You can control the sword and shield with the unique setup of the Revolution controller, allowing the player to experience combat in Zelda like never before. When you play the game on GameCube, the fighting mechanics are based in a third-person perspective. However, on the Revolution, the battles shift into a first person mode, which allows the player to really feel like they are dueling a foe rather than playing a game. You should see some of the boss battles in this mode. Of course, you can use the controller to aim your bow, your hookshot or your boomerang, as well as some other items. The amount of force you use while handling the controller will also determine how far or fast your items go. There are also some puzzles specially developed on the Revolution version that will require the input from the Revolution's controller. These puzzles will be solved a different way on the GameCube."

Is this real?

Nintendo Gaming / IGN interviews Pandemic
« on: March 19, 2006, 06:50:05 PM »
 IGN Interview

Pandemic says basically what everyone says.  We're excited by the possibilities of the controller.  We hope it doesn't become a sparkling innovation.  We're interested in making a game for the REvolution.  yada yada yada.  But we're developing 360 and PS3 games.  At least that's the way I read it.

Alot of developers are taking a wait and see attitude with the REvolution.  And they give diplomatic answers in case it does become a viable platform.

btw, PGC i like the filter for the g word.  lol.

Nintendo Gaming / Pink Kirby Stylus
« on: March 09, 2006, 06:49:18 AM »
Is there an enscription on the side of the Pink Kirby stylus?  I have one of these and I could have sworn there was some wording on the side.   But there's nothing now.  Probably my imagination.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  Thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / Rockstar's new game coming to Rev
« on: March 03, 2006, 10:03:18 AM »
????

Ok I'm taking a stab in the dark here (complete with a cheap gotcha headline,) but if this game isn't eventually ported over to the Rev from the 360 then no 360 game will be.

The game?   Table Tennis

Nintendo Gaming / What is the Revolution's last secret?
« on: February 24, 2006, 02:43:51 PM »
Ok I resurrected this horse.

I want to know what you think the Revolution's big secret is?  You know the last big Revolution feature Nintendo has yet to reveal.

Now what I want here is a community brainstorm.  As such there is no right or wrong.  So please do not criticize or comment on other people's ideas in this thread.  God knows there's plenty of threads for that. And that goes for me too.  Believe me I'll have a hard time.    But I shall adhere.

What I will do is edit this first post every so often and update it with every idea posted in this thread.  Anyway please no debating or commenting in this thread about the validity of ideas.  Just present a guess and a short description of it and what benefit it will bring the Revolution.

The last secret of the Revolution is

1. Impressive disc format
2.  Software implementation
3.  True 3d (glasses, projection, ...)
4.  Visual Representation
5.  Concept selling game
6.  Wireless video streaming to the TV
7.  Camera functionality in controller
8.  Microphone functionality in controller
9.  Internet support
10.  Visor/Goggles/Virtual Boy 2
11. PLay games downloaded from 'virtual console'  with the new controller
12.  Use any Nintendo character (customized however you want) in any game
13. Optional Snap-On LCD
14. Touch sensitvity on remote controller
15. Some graphical breakthru (mapping technique?, ...)
16. Leverage SD card use as some kind of big feature
17. All games cell-shaded in primary colors only
18. Controller heats up
19.  Gyros in controller will give resistance
20.  No load times
21.  Voice to Text translation
22.  Enhanced DS to REv interface
23.   USB ports exist for a reason
24.  Store virtual consoles games on pc hard drive
25.  Biometrics
26.  Controller also a Voip Phone

Nintendo Gaming / More love for the Revolution!!!!
« on: November 16, 2005, 03:44:40 PM »

"The amount of individual designer support for Nintendo's imaginative Revolution controller has been overwhelmingly positive. The Sims and SimCity creator Will Wright recently chatted with Shacknews about a variety of topics, including his personal thoughts on Revolution.

As has been seen from other designers, Wright is all for it. "I'm really interested in the Revolution to see how the controller works out. That looks pretty cool," he says. "It looks very interesting to me. I like the idea of taking the games more outside the box and more into that close-body kind of space."

Considering the answer came in response to a question about whether Wright had been playing anything interesting lately, the praise is noteworthy.

The amount of work still left on Wright's ambitious Spore project means it's too early to speculate whether he's considered working on a Revolution project, but positive word of mouth from the creator of the best selling PC game of all time certainly can't hurt. "

" Microsoft may be smiling from ear to ear with Kojima’s recent comments about the Xbox 360 hardware, but a Rare employee speaking to Eurogamer has given some love to Nintendo’s Revolution, as well. Multiplayer designer Duncan Botwood claims that Rare could actually port Perfect Dark Zero to Nintendo’s next-generation console:

We could make it work, but there’d be some changes to the gameplay, I expect; the controller looks like it might lend itself towards a light gun style of shooting, which would be a fresh approach.

Those are some kind words which hint at Nintendo’s ability to keep up with the competition, in terms of technology. However, Botwood showed some skepticism for Nintendo’s new controller: “Most people don’t use TV remote controls constantly for a whole hour, let alone wave them in the air all that time.”

Take your TV remote and swing it around in the air for awhile - how long do you think you could do that in one play session without getting tired? What if you had your arm resting and just moved your wrist?"

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Baseball
« on: October 10, 2005, 07:21:16 AM »
Where's the love?

This is a very enjoyable title.  IT's a fun party game and it's fun single player as well.  A couple of the minigames are a blast to play with a friend.  The homerun one and especially the barrel game.

IT's my kind of game because it's easy to pick up and play yet has depth and lots of room to get better.  And it also sports a very smooth frame rate, lots of polish all around and let's you play a quick baseball game.

You know I like that the game just gets down to the nitty gritty.  You aren't sitting their watching your guys walk from the dugout.  You aren't waiting for the game to switch back to the pitcher view after the opponent gets out or gets on base.  It's quick.

I like sports games but some of them just drag the game out but showing too much extra details.  Tiger Woods and Madden come to mind.  This game is just good pure arcade fun.  Unless you'remaking a career out of sport gaming this is the title to play.

The animations are great.  The hitting is fun and same with pitching.  The fielding, throwing and running isn't as fun as noted in many reviews.  However I think most of them exagerate the annoyances.

Nintendo Gaming / STar Fox assault vs adventures
« on: September 08, 2005, 04:50:21 PM »
Ok maybe this is old hat but....

I just got SF:Assault today but I already like it better than STar Fox adventures.  I notice tho that most reviews have adventures rated alot higher.  I can't see really see that.

Adventures was just really dull.  I couldn't even get more than 4 hrs into it before I quit and never looked back.  The graphics while great in some respects (fox swimming) looked sorta flat and they all just didn't mesh well.  Plus the game had it's share of slowdowns.

Assault tho stands out to me as vibrant.  It's more polished.  It's fun!  I'm hooked on the ship battles right away.

The ground stuff is pretty good fun too.  Tho I admit the controls are a bit touchy (I fell off platforms numerous times after climbing forever.)  And it's hard to find the targets.  I already died completely in like the 2nd ground mission; the one on the big spaceship.  I don't know where the h the targets are.

But still I get the hang of the controls a bit and it's fun.

Fun!  Fun.   fun.  It didn't hurt I picked it up new for half price.  Anyway I think some folks doing the reviews forget that many others haven't played every Nintendo game out there (yeah that's me.)

Nintendo Gaming / New DS owner!!
« on: June 04, 2005, 02:22:28 PM »
Hello DS-owning PGCers.  I just grabbed a DS on the cheap off ebay for f'n cheap.

I like that touchscreen.  I just wish the handheld was bit more ergonomic for thumb play.  LIke they should have made the right edge of the touchscreen the edge of the unit (and chopped off the x,y,a,b buttons along with select and start.  They could have put a few of the buttons below the touchscreen.

Anyway I need a game.  What should I get???  The only games I even remotely know about are Yoshi, WArio and Mario.

Also will the touchscreen scuff up after lots of extended use if I don't find some kind of protector for it?  Or isn't the a problem?  Any recommendations would be sweet.
