nullNintendo handheld game works as videophone

Sunday, September 14, 2003 Posted: 8:01 AM EDT (1201 GMT)

TOKYO (AP) -- Nintendo Co.'s Game Boy Advance handheld machine now works as a videophone with an attachment that comes with a digital camera, earphone and microphone.

The 13,000 yen (US$110) Campho Advance from Kyoto-based Digital Act Co., which makes mobile and Internet equipment, slips into the top of the Game Boy Advance just like any video-game cassette.

When connected to an analog telephone outlet, the display shows live video of the person on the other end of the line, who must also own both the Game Boy Advance and the Campho Advance. Your own image will show up in the corner of the display.

Campho Advance, which goes on sale only in Japan in December, requires no Internet service provider. Developers are working on a broadband device but have no plans to sell the product overseas so far, company spokesman Kazuhisa Saito said Friday.

Nintendo has sold more than 10 million Game Boy Advance machines in Japan, and about 34 million worldwide.

Any comments???  Sounds like it could possibly have been Nintendo's upcoming innovative product we heard about a while ago.  Looks interesting.

General Gaming / GameSpy Halo PC Impressions
« on: May 12, 2003, 04:52:27 PM »
I laughed heartily when I read this article.  The X-Box smash hit is arriving on the PC in better quality than the original.  I, honestly, was expecting it to be a watered down version of the original, but to see that it has been improved.  Good to see I didn't spend $$$ in the past to buy the X-Box only for Halo when I can get a better version now.  Oh well.  There is always Halo 2 for current X-Box owners.

Any opinions?

Nintendo Gaming / Hoping For the Fall of Nintendo Consoles
« on: April 18, 2003, 05:13:48 PM »
As a gamer, I like to play games.  A variety of games from a variety of companies.  I want to be able to play Halo and Fable.  I want to be able to play the Final Fantasies, the Dragon Warriors, the Metal Gears, and the GTAs.  I want to be able to play the sports games, the action games, the adventure games, the RPGs, the FPSs; and yet, I love Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, SSB, Earthbound.  I am tired of relying on Nintendo systems to provide me with all of the above because, in the end, I am disappointed.  I feel I missed out on some of the greatest games ever made on non-Nintendo systems because I do not have enough money to spend on all three systems.  As a gamer, not a businessman, I am ready for Nintendo to make software only.  I am ready for them to drop out of the hardware industry.

This would seem to be a little unfanboyish, but I am speaking as a Nintendo-biased gamer.  I love my Nintendo games more than any others, but why do I have to miss out on all the beautiful 3rd party titles because I like to play Nintendo games?  If Nintendo produced games exclusively for one system (PS3 hopefully), a large part of this problem would be solved.

I am not suggesting that Nintendo drop out of the handheld industry because they are obviously strong in that market.  I just don't understand why Nintendo participates in the console industry when it doesn't even want to compete with the other hardware companies.  If someone can enlighten me on the subject please do so, because I can find no reason other than profit for why they are willing to support a console that is not supported by a large majority of consumers.  It just makes no sense to me.  Nintendo is quickly becoming a niche company, and I am not a big fan of that.

Nintendo Gaming / Beaten Game Impressions (SPOILERS!)

In case you missed the title ***SPOILERS***
---------------------------------------------------------

Just beat Wind Waker.  I must say, what an awesome game!  It was honestly the first time a Zelda game has made me REALLY think about what was going through the characters' heads.   When Ganondorf was expressing his feelings, I really started to slightly care for the man.  When the King of Hyrule spoke about hope, I found myself feeling sorry for him.  When I saw Hyrule and the king drown, I was moved.

This game had it all:  great gameplay, good story, and real emotion.  Perfection.  I even liked the credits!  I feel a deep respect for ALL the people who created this masterpiece (not just Miyamoto).  I don't know if I'll be able to make through all the sidequests...there are just so many.  And that's a good thing.  Just great.

On a side note, if any of you read the Nintendo newsletter, what was the big surprise?  I didn't get a chance to see it, and I really couldn't think of what one picture would have spoiled.
