Nintendo at E3 stated they were looking to get core gamers back.  Even if these games didn't sell well it would give the perception Nintendo is listening.  With NoA giving the response it has I don't think Nintendo wants core gamers back, and core gamers tend to have long memories...
 
I can't shake the feeling WiiU is really the Gamecube round 2...

Sounds like "Starlet" was an i/o chip.  Kinda like the PS1 processor in the PS2.

Also a lot depends on if the Tegra rumor is true.  If it is I expect a lot of 3rd parties to make pretty psp-ish type games while Nintendo will be the only on doing "3d" at launch.

    The iPad/iPhone will never be a real threat to Nintendo until Apple puts a decent control pad and gaming related button layout on it.  Publishers are interested in the iWhatever because they can poop a game out real cheap and make some quick profit on it. 
 
     However, App Store has a lot of issues, namely piracy, Apple's submission process, and the recent changed made to the developer license are alienating some developers.

Gabe Newell has stated more then once that hell will freeze before he codes for the PS3.
Some business types at Valve have made noise about supporting the PS3, but that's about it.

MS's numbers are easy to find, because of that it's easy to see what weaknesses it's Creator's Club program has.  It would be very interesting to compare these numbers to say Sony and Nintendo if one could find them.

Pay close attention to what is selling and not selling.  It should be painfully obvious why third parties are not flocking to the Wii.  Take a look at the ToS sequel.  I can guarentee you that Namco is paying attention to it's sales and will adjust their output accordingly in the future.

There are a lot of older Nintendo fans who feel Nintendo has abandoned them.
I used to get mad about it but now I don't care.  I've moved on to play other things.
If Nintendo doesn't want third party games or my money,  MS and Sony will happily take them.

It's funny how many times we've had this conversation.

You have one group bitching and whining about lack of third party support while the other is pretending that Nintendo is not screwing over the market that supported them for years.

That fact of the matter the Wii sells great for Nintendo but not so much for anyone else.  Look at the on going threads at neogaf, third parties aren't selling so well in either America or Japan.  Part of that is the market Nintendo is catering too the other half is a lot of third parties are pooping out crap.

I think the biggest thing that "hardcore" gamers have against Nintendo is the fact that Nintendo could do a couple of things to cater to the hardcore market, but it absolutely refuses too.

I've played a lot of SNES RPGs.

This game doesn't sound too hard, it's just money is tight and a want to make sure this game is worth the $40.00 I drop on it?

Is all the extra content from the GBA release in the game?
I've had a hard time getting a confirmation.

Chrono Cross was an obtuse game. 
You either learned how it worked or it raped you.  There is really no middle ground to it...

How hard is it say compared to FF 3 remake on DS?

This game might be my next purchase on the DS after I beat TWEWY.

Thank You KDR, you were a lot nicer about saying that then I would have been...

Metroid in it's current form is spent. 
To move forward the series it would have to break out of the mold of Super Metroid.  Prime was Super Metroid as a FPS.  Metroid should as a nice 3rd person over the shoulder shooter, a la the original Metroid Prime concept. 

The ultimate 2d Metroid platformer was already made, it was called Super Metroid.  The only thing Fusion did was remind me how awesome SM was and Fusion not so much.  Fusion has a better story, that is it.

Metroid could be reinvented, but would fans play it or accept it???

First off nice article, it was easy to read and got to the point.

You kinda left some stuff out.
In Japan there was Family BASIC, a version of BASIC for the Famicom.

Also the N64 had Perfect Dark and Deadly Arts.
While you couldn't make new boards, you create scenarios and add bots to just about any multiplayer map in the game.

Deadly Arts had a create a fighter mode.

Flip side,
Nintendo has never been one to embrace user made content.
Once they believed the MSX to no longer be a threat in Japan, they dropped Family BASIC.

While the N64 had got Perfect Dark and Deadly Arts, the PSX got Fighter Maker and RPG Maker.  It was available for a short while but Sony had the Net Yaroze program.

On the Gamecube you had Time Splitters and
While the PS2 and Xbox had Time Splitters along many, many other titles that you could create custom content on.

Now comes this generation, Sony has Linux available to everyone, MS has a full blown homebrew program that rivals Atari from the 80's and Nintendo has???
Nintendo has the ability to make custom web pages for the Wii.

Nintendo has never been a fan of homebrew and this falls further behind on this front every generation.

Sorry the Wii really doesn't have the storage space to do that.

The only good thing to come out of the Ubisoft announcement is all photoshops that will be on display over at neogaf...

Tenchu did not make the leap to next gen very well and the stealth genre has advanced a lot since the PSX games.

While the who's making it is good news I will wait and see on this one.

About the LAN setup, even Sony experimented with it on the original PSX.
Ridge Racer had a LAN mode that if you hooked up two TVs and two PSXs you could play head to head in two player.  Needless to say it didn't last long as later models of the PSX dropped the LAN port.

Yes the PS2 had crappy on-line, but itt was still better then the Gamecube.
In fact there are still some PS2 on-line games still played today such as Tribes and Everquest Adventure.  I believe Sony even gave the PS3 an update so it could play certain PS2 titles on-line.  Even some of the PS2 Rachet titles had online support.

To be fair to Nintendo, GBA connectivity was a cool idea but it was poorly executed and it didn't get much chance to shine before the it was killed.

It's kinds simple why Nintendo hates the cube, it didn't sell.
It wasn't the cube's fault that Nintendo had it's head up it's arse during it's lifetime.  It was a good system, well designed, lots of horsepower, but it's creators were cheap as hell.

I'm sure many here know the cube had printouts on the motherboard for 48 megs of memory instead of 24 we got and the GPU was suppose to run at 200MHz, not 167.  These things were changed because Nintendo was didn't want to lose a cent on the cube, but it also gimped it's lifespan a bit in terms of horsepower.  On-line was a joke for the cube and still is today.

Nintendo is doing what it has always done, except with the Wii it's working.

People are laughing at Sony and MS for spending billions for on-line, but they are laying the foundation for use in future generations.
