Title: New Zelda Game's Rating
Post by: brian577 on July 08, 2004, 03:51:56 PM
Whats with the current rating for the coming Zelda game? What makes the editors think it's going to be M Rated? Not that I care, but where are they getting this assumption. Just because the game presents a mature look doesen't mean the game is going to get such a high rating. I saw nothing in the video to suggest the game deserves an M rating, there was not a drop of blood in the video. The phrase "Blades will bleed" it's just an expression of the games new mature look. What makes the editors think the game will get an M Rating?

Is this something you've gotten from gamefaqs? I can't imagine anyone older than 12 thinking the new Zelda would be M. I doubt will ever see a Teen rated Zelda, let alone a M one.

I seriously do not believe the new Zelda will be rated M...
Unless it's rated m for most spactacular. (sorry I couldn't think of an adjective that started with m...)

I think M is out of the question but T is quite plausable.
Unless its M for 'mazin (hehehehe jst a bit of elision there)

Yeah, I think a T rating is very possible. If Super Smash Bros. Melee can get a T, then I think this game is cruising for a T rating for sure. For that matter, I thought some of the content in Ocarina of Time was almost "T" material. Running around people's tombs while fighting screaming naked zombies...also some of the final scenes after beating Ganon were pretty violent. But M, not bloodly likely.

Gibdo, I got this right from the Planet Gamecube Previews list.

"M" for "Macho Manslave."

An M rating, I doubt. However a T rating is quite plausible given it's look and the atmosphere it may be going for.

I'm so ashamed.
Anyway, I think Zelda is one of those series that will probably get an E rating no matter what. I remember when MM came out I was reading about it's rating in Nintendo Power. Apparently it came real close to getting a T rating due to some of the dark subject matter, but the ESRB gave it an E because "there was some good moral lessons for kids in the game". Yeah, that was the reason.

I believe that it could get a Teen rating, but the ESRB is so stupid that they will rate one game "E" for the same reasons that they gave SSBM a "T." They are inconsistent and unreliable as a rating board goes >_>.

Nintendo pays off the ESRB for every Zelda title...OoT and MM are proof of that...

Yeah, Beneath the Well and the Shadow Temple were pretty freaky and violent for an E game. There was blood and skulls all over the walls for cryin' out loud. MM was the darkest Zelda yet, with its scary scenes (mask morphing scenes) and it's references to death.

And it's not just the "realistic" Zeldas, either...WW's final blow was pretty violent, considering Super Smash Brothers got a T rating for playful fighting...And though the ESRB wasn't around during the earlier Zeldas like LttP and LA, I'm sure Ninty would have gotten away with E ratings for a game that contained death scenes and other suggestive material...

Yeah I think your theory is right Bill. Custom Robo is set up almost like Pokemon except you actively fight instead of a turn-based match, yet it got a Teen rating for comic mischief and mild fantasy violence. They even say MILD violence. And it has been a very long time since I met anyone who was scarred from comic mischief...poor kid.

I think a better rating system than the ESRB would be the Quit-Buying-Games-Called-Mortal-Kombat-and-Grand-Theft-Auto-You-Dumbasses. There would only be one rating for the QBGCMKAGTAYD and it would say "look at the cover instead of waiting for Tipper Gore to bitch about it". Then we wouldn't have to worry about this.

The mask morphing scenes made me cry. Majora is one of the most terrifying Mofos i have ever seen. Those WW redeads are uber scary too.
Speaking of WW redeads, did anybody else think that some of those monsters in the new zelda game video were WW redeads equipped with a bow and quiver?

No I think those were Moblins

hmm i dont know. I recorded it on my DVR and paused it. The scene im talking about is the huge army of enemys with the sunsetting behind them. there is a part where the camera moves past them. their heads were hanging down like redeads, thats for sure. They may have been wearing masks too.

They were some iteration of Bokoblins (or whatever). Moblins are the larger, fat-headed pig-dudes.
These guys in the sunset are much like WW's Bokoblins. They're small, their heads hang low, they're green, they mask their mouths/nose, they have little beady red eyes, they have horns sprouting from their temples, and in the trailer the frontliners of the pack had quivers with arrows in addition the clubs they wielded.
