Title: Anyone ever get this error...
Post by: bjeong1381 on July 04, 2004, 12:17:03 PM
I get the following error while trying to play games.
An error has occurred. Turn the power OFF and check the Nintendo Gamecube Instruction Booklet for further instructions.
I thought it was my spider-man 2 game but I just tried it with custom robo and I am getting the same error.

Yeah we all get it, some times it means clean your disk, some times it means your disks too scratched up but in your case I think it means theres something wrong with your cube. Clean the disks with a damp cloth and try again if nothing happens call nintendo.

It has nothing to do with the games. I am very anal about my games so they are all mint and have no scratches or smudges or anything like that. As for calling nintendo I don't think that they will help me since it is a japanese cube that is modded. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Call Nintendo anyway, they might still be able to help. It's not like modding your Gamecube is illegal, at least not what you modded it for.

I had this same error and had to send it into Nintendo. I think all the pieces (you'd need to fix, i.e. timing for lens) are the same so NOA might still be able to help you. Modding the cube just voids your warranty and since you imported I'm guessing it would have been void anyway (lasts only a year). Call Nintendo. They will likely say that it is because you modded it, but tell them your cube is showing symptoms of the Disc Read Problem that is talked about even by owners of North American gamecubes.

My guess is that the cost for repair is in the area of 45 - 60 depending on what it is.

For that price I might as well buy a new cube.

50 USD to fix. Or you could choose to buy a refurbished one for 75 USD. Actually first check and see if there is a certified Nintendo repair station near you. I think if there is, you have more options. I didn't. But still sending it was relatively painless. The phone number for direct repair (in the US and Canada) is 1-800-255-3700. "For that price I might as well buy a new cube." True. However I think they gutted my cube and just put a new one in there. I worry that if you sent yours in they'd replace it with a N. American unmodded cube. But if you plan on buying a new one, you might as well fix your old one. It is cheaper and there isn't much time to wait.
