Title: Introducing the Xbox VidCam
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on June 16, 2004, 01:33:27 PM
Microsoft doesn't want to be the only one w/o a camera attachement so now they have the Vidcam that will come with an Xbox Live starter kit and retail for $65
It allows upto 5 users to chat all at the same time.

I don't think I'd like to see my opponent being an overweight, pasty, sun-fearing nudist. You just can't trust people these days...

^^ lmao I think it's only for video chat so far, I don't think they'd want to intergrate it into online games because of precious bandwidth. Maybe for offline games? ala EyeToy (god help us... not another one...)

Oh, yeah, so we can see all of the Goatse imitations we like, eh? Seriously, there's a LOT of weird crap being done with webcams, cross that with the complete idiots roaming !eviL (I'm not referring to every !eviL user, just the idiots) and you got a service you shouldn't let your kids see. Now the idiots are no longer limited to verbally abusing your children...

Yeah, it's something that opens alot of gateways for people that are, like you say, idoits. I expect you can only vid chat to people on your friends list, so that's one good thing coz at least it offers a small amount of control as to who you're talking to. Also, you need a credit card to actually get Live, so at least if there are kids using it, their parents will have to approve first. That kind of stuff can be locked by parents anyway (if they can figure out how ), so that's good too.

Couldn't you already do that w/o an xbox to begin with? What does that have to do with gaming? You're also paying for the internet already and you're paying another $50 a year.

Tell me about it. It's a pretty dumb feature really, unless you have friends on your list and you wanna see their face I guess... be cheaper than a phone call I dunno, I wont be buying one.

MS comes up with some of the dumbest things. Whoever buys that is wasting their money. Who gives a care who you're playing against online. You play with them, you finish, you be happy.
