Brady will continue to publish official strategy guides for Capcom games.  Hooray.

Capcom® and BradyGames® Renew Exclusive Strategy Guide Partnership

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 7, 2004 - Capcom® today announced an official agreement granting BradyGames® exclusive rights to continue publishing strategy guides for many of their upcoming games. After working together for several years, Capcom selected BradyGames as their exclusive strategy guide partner in 2002. Under their original agreement, BradyGames published strategy guides for many smash hit Capcom titles such as Resident Evil® Zero, Devil May CryT 2, Mega Man® Battle Network 3: Blue & White, and Viewtiful JoeT.

The first blockbuster title under the latest agreement, OnimushaT 3 Demon Siege, was released in late April. BradyGames published two collectible guides for the final game in the renowned Onimusha trilogy-the Onimusha 3 Demon Siege Official Strategy Guide (Signature Series) and the Onimusha 3 Demon Siege Limited Edition Strategy Guide. The Signature Series Guide included bonus content and other exclusive extras such as a double-sided pullout poster featuring character art from the game. The Limited Edition Strategy Guide was a special, limited offering that included the Onimusha 3 Demon Siege Signature Series Guide with an exclusive cover, a stunning art book featuring imagery from the entire Onimusha series, and a deluxe book jacket.

Once again, the two game industry giants have joined forces to help gamers enjoy some of the year's hottest games. BradyGames will publish strategy guides for several key Capcom titles in 2004 including: Mega Man Battle Network 4: Blue Moon & Red Sun, Way of the Samurai 2, Street Fighter® Anniversary Collection, Crimson TearsT, Monster Hunter, Mega Man X Command Mission, Viewtiful Joe (for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system), Mega Man Zero 3, Mega Man X8, Resident Evil 4, Killer 7T, Shadow of RomeT, and Under the SkinT.

The renewed relationship extends into 2005, with additional exclusive strategy guides for big games such as Resident Evil Outbreak 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, Devil May Cry 3 and many more.

"We have been very impressed with BradyGames' strong commitment for creating high-quality products," said Taki Enomoto, manager of licensing, Capcom Co., LTD., Japan. "Their tailored approach to publishing is apparent in every guide they publish, and this high standard is why we chose to continue our exclusive partnership with BradyGames."

Meh.

Brady has had the exclusive rights to make "official" players guides for Square's games for a number of years now, and I've been left "unimpressed" to say the least.

A Final Fantasy IX guide that's loaded with "If you'd like to know the answer to that question, visit PlayOnline.com and enter this secret code" on every fricken page? And then when you do visit PlayOnline.com, you see that Square's gotten bored with playing that game, stopped maintaining that section of their site, and so almost all of the code links are broken (I wouldn't be surprised if the entire section has been removed by now). That's just a waste of paper. The only reason to buy it is that it's "official Square" paper-waste.

And their Final Fantasy Anthology guide neglects to offer something as simple as a "World Map", and their weapon/item lists are severely lacking in depth, even beyond being completely unaware of FFV's secondary "rare steal" items, even though the writer mentioned several of them in the text of the wakthrough.

However, I will give Brady some credit in that they've come out with an actual artbook for FFIX, and a really nice (although expensive) hardcover "deluxe edition" guide for FFX-2. But in terms of gorgeous extras, Working Designs still beats Brady on a regular basis, IMO.

Wow. Seems like they botched up with Square(enix).

I used their guides for Resident Evil 1 and O; without them, I would never fully appreciate the series as it more or less taught me the 'rules' of survivor horror. After that, I played RE 2,3 and Code Veronica X without them; its as if those guides left their imprint in me....

Not to mention the posters. It sounds odd, but I put them up when I beat 1 and 0 for the first time. Kind of a small reward if you will.

I hated their Smash Bros. stradegy guides. They said that Jigglypuff was a useless character "We dont know what the Down B move is for..guh hylk!"
