Title: Room of Souls (Eternal Darkness Question)

You know how there is that room of souls that contains the Tome of Eternal Darkness, with the troubled souls' faces peering out of the floor and screaming in agony??
Can you remember any other SNES games that had a similar thing?
I could have sworn I have seen that kind of thing in a Nintendo game before.
And also the final battle with Pious was also very familiar in its execution? Was it Secret Of Mana that had a similar battle sequence? Or maybe Soul Blazer?
