Title: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas
Post by: joeamis on May 22, 2004, 08:13:36 PM
I know we shouldn't expect another preorder deal like the one for WW so I ask this question with the emphasis being What would you like to see or think would be good as a preorder bonus for The Legend of Zelda 2005?

I haven't heard about Tetra's Trackers coming to the U.S. yet so if it doesn't end up happening I think that would be cool.  Another thing I'd like is if they made a history of Zelda documentary with interviews (I don't know if they did anything like this already in the Zelda Bonus Pack for buying a GC).  Finally it would be cool if they included either a making of for any of the series titles and/or a collection of artwork with maybe some never before seen pieces.  Oh lol and if they gave a piece of paper where you could order the cartoon episodes with (I dunno who actually owns the rights to distribute it but it wouldn't be a hassle to do it most likely).

I don't expect all of these things, I don't expect infact anything for preorder, I just state them as some ideas I think would be cool.  Share your own.

But I would really like an art book too...

I'd be happy with getting the already existing collectors disk free with my pre-order of this Zelda game. I wouldn't mind a free memory card either.

I think pre-sales of this game will top Wind Wakers and it will become the most pre-ordered game of all time.

How about "Wind of Gamelon", "Zelda's Adventure", and "Faces of Evil"?

I know they suck and all, but it would be entertaining just to finally be able to say ALL the Zelda games are playable on the Cube.

Those atrocities are to never be mentioned again. That was a mishap with philips, who used the Zelda name to make their  own CD-I game. and all were horrible, so bad infact we like to distant ourselves from such horrid creations. ( they were made my Phillips )

Nevertheless, they could call the Disc "this is why you shouldn't lend out important franchises to third parties".

with another disc titled: "This is why you should lend out important franchises to second parties or even third parties as long as you look over them"

with the following titles on the disc:
Mario Tennis (I say this because the first MT was developed by Nintendo for VBoy unless you count Mario being the linesmen in earlier non "Mario" Nintendo Tennis titles)
Excitebike 64
F-Zero GX
Starfox '2'
Advance Wars GC
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
(all the titles I forgot)

Ofcourse the disc would have to just be a coupon saying will be mailed to you in a couple of years because many of the titles are too recent.

Just kidding

It would be nice if they took another shot at porting Majora's Mask, since the one on the Collectors Disk had so many bugs. They could throw in a Master Quest version too.

I wouldn´t mind a version of Link´s Awakening redone with the Four Swords GC graphics-pack. Or, now that I think about it, Four Swords itself. They did it with the GBA ALttP, right?

After reading Penny-Arcade´s Nintendo E3 rant, I think that Donkey Kong Jungle Beat should include Punch out and Super Punch Out. That would be awsome.
Title: RE: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas

Actually, I think we're gonna get something like what we got with WW:

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
and
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Moon Quest, which is a remixed version of MM. If MM was already dark and twisted and confusing for you with the time element, imagine what sick horrors Nintendo have in store for you with MQ.

That'll be the best option for them, to have some of the earlier gameboy zelda games remade wit Four Swords graphics, that'll be insane.  That'll nearly cement the new zelda as the highest and fastest preordered game of all time.

I would like some kind of sountrack, either for the upcoming game itself, or lifting music from each of the past Zeldas. Plus a life-sized Malon doll that can say 'teehee!' at the push of a button <3

I would love to see ALttP put on a disk too. Since you guys are suggesting they redo the Game Boy Zeldas with Four Swords graphics they might as well do that with LoZ and AoL too. Although, I think it would be more appropriate if AoL had more realistic graphics somehow.

I think i would kill for a nice "History of The Legend Zelda".  Interviews, concept art, actual in depth stuff about how this all started.  make it like 2 hours long, better yet make it a 4 disc set like those Lord of the rings extended DVD sets, lol.

I would definitely go for LttP, but I'd also throw in an updated Link's Awakening and the Oracle games for good meaure. My girlfriend would get suspicious of the Malon doll, though (not to mention, it's a videogame character -_-).

Title: RE: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas
Post by: Ian Sane on May 24, 2004, 09:23:25 AM
You know I actually hope they don't include anything with this pre-order.  My reasons for wanting that are pretty selfish though.  In my area there is no practical need to pre-order anything.  I walked in and bought a GBA on a whim at launch without any pre-order and I even got to choose the colour.  There are virtually no rare Cube games.  Ikaruga, Cubivore, Skies of Arcadia Legends, even the Zelda Collector's disc have been readily available in stores in my area since they came out.  I live in an area with a good sized population that for some reason is not that interested in games.

I like to buy my games from a local chain.  They have a great selection of both new and used titles and they always have the lowest prices.  Plus the staff is really cool and never pushes ANYTHING on the customers.  However they don't take pre-orders because they want people to be able to walk in and buy a game at release instead of missing out because everything was pre-ordered.  I like that idea but it screws me when it comes to pre-order incentives so in situations like Wind Waker I have to go to EB who a. charges nearly ten dollars more for new games, b. only knocks three bucks off of used titles, and c. pushes strategy guides and GMR subsriptions on me.  In other words I hate giving them my business but when Nintendo offers something major as a pre-order incentive I have no choice since the only other places that pre-order in my area are Wal-Mart and Toys 'R' Us and I sure as hell don't trust THEM to give me the free bonus disc I'm entitled to.

Personally I don't think this new Zelda even needs a pre-order bonus.  Wind Waker was getting a lot of criticism for it's looks, even from longtime Zelda fans, so including the unreleased Master Quest was a great way to build interest.  Here they don't NEED anything extra to build interest.  All they have to do is release a video preview on a DVD, give it out for free at stores and have stores run it on a screen in a loop, and nearly everyone who sees it will buy the game.

Edit: Here's another idea.  They could pull a ZOE and include the Zelda demo with another game.  Sneaky but since most Nintendo games are worth buying anyway I don't have a problem with it.  It could boost sales of another game (like Fire Emblem?) and would be a good way to test how interested people are in it.

Post by: joeamis on May 24, 2004, 09:49:10 AM
Interesting read Ian I guess you're both lucky and unlucky from where you live.  I like your idea of putting the demo with another game, it would boost sales of that other game alot.  All the ideas so far are good, some a little too far fetched, but still good i didn't say they had to be realistic so it's all good.  It's unfortunate some of you still get pestered at stores to buy guides and such, Gamespot used to do that to me all the time but they stopped it altogether last generation.  Hehe reminds me what they used to do back in the days of SNES was to push game cleaners like crazy.

Post by: WuTangTurtle on May 24, 2004, 10:10:12 AM
I agree with Ian, maybe they should have a free demo disc that u get for preordering with videos of Zelda, Baten Kaitos, Metroid Prime2, Resident Evil 4, Geist, etc.

They should have that for anyone who preorders Tales of Symphonia, TOS would certainly get a boost in sales!
Title: RE:The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas
Post by: boggy b on May 24, 2004, 10:25:48 AM
I think you're missing the point. They don't give it away as a pre-order incentive; they actually give away a demo when you buy the game. The case he's using is when Konami packaged the demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 with Zone of the Enders, to increase sales of the game (though, to be honest, it shouldn't really have needed it since it was a great game to begin with)

Ian, did you try getting the stuff at launch day? I got preorder stuff from my local retailer that way. Now I have the OOT disc, a GBA-GC cable (from FFCC) and a Viewtiful Joe shirt.

"Ian, did you try getting the stuff at launch day? I got preorder stuff from my local retailer that way."

Doesn't work.  They usually just sell the extra stuff.  It's great if you want the Zelda bonus disc without getting Wind Waker but since I planned on getting both per-ordering from EB was cheaper than buying both seperately.

Erm, that's the standard anime-to-high-detail-3d style. Of course it looks weird, that's why it works mostly only with lowpoly (i.e. you just paint the face on a low detail representation of the head) or people go with realism instead (see Soul Calibur, Final Fantasy and almost any other "realistic" game made in Japan, apparently they sketch in anime style no matter what). Anime just doesn't work in reality.
Hm, with a realistic LoZ the characters are probably more realistic, too, so don't worry...

How bout this? Depending on weather or not the next Zelda has any direct link to Wind Waker, why don't they release a 1-hour Cutscene/ movie using the original Wind Waker engine to wrap up any and all lose ends(Kinda like FFVII Advent Children).  How did Link and Tetra make out on their new quest? What troubles did they encounter and things of this nature. Nothing overly fancy just a nice and neat way to conclude the story. Although I belive the Mishinip Cap maybe the same Link from Wind Waker( ala LTTP and LA) and if thats the case it may be harder to acomplish...but you know just a thought.
Title: RE: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas

Dude: So, how'd you come up with the idea for the original Zelda game?
Shiggy: Funny story, I was out in my garden one day, when I took the time to notice all the little bugs and bits of bird crap that had dried in the sun. I thought to myself, this green and brown blob could be a HERO that would save an uptown girl. So I got on my Amiga 500 and played some Bump 'N' Jump. Then had a shower and went out for dinner with the Super Mario Club.
Dude:... Uh, sir? Zelda?
Shiggy: A-what? No she is mine, this interview is over.

"Although I belive the Mishinip Cap maybe the same Link from Wind Waker( ala LTTP and LA) and if thats the case it may be harder to acomplish...but you know just a thought."

Judging by Capcom's blatant disregard for storyline consistency in the Oracle games I imagine that Minish Cap will exist by itself like Capcom's other Zelda titles.  I regard EAD's Zelda titles as the "official" story and Capcom's titles as original stories that use the Zelda characters.  Otherwise you get into all sorts of weird stuff like why Malon and Talon live in Holodrum and have never met Link before.

I like the video idea though.  It may not be necessary if the new Cube Zelda game continues with that story but it's a really cool idea.

How about they finish the missing dungeons in Wind Waker and include them in an "expansion pack" that you get when you preorder?  Essentially the disc would just contain a couple of dungeons that exist entirely on their own.  You select the dungeons from a menu screen and your character automatically comes equiped with the required items.
Title: RE: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas
Post by: Bill Aurion on June 01, 2004, 07:22:58 AM
I thought it was quite obvious that the Oracle games are placed by themselves, due to the fact that Link meets Zelda for the first time in them(and Link had all-new artwork for the games)...However, Minish Cap's art looks identical to Wind Waker's, and Zelda looks just as she does in Wind Waker, so it would make sense for the game to be a sequel to it...

The expansion pack thing sounds cool, though what will probably happen is that the ideas for the missing dungeons will be blended into the new game... :\

That's such a load of crap. Who would even know if they sucked or not? Only Miyamoto and everyone else who worked on WW would even know what those two dungeons were like, and I seriously doubt Miyamoto would have said they sucked.

In fact, Miyamoto has said that they simply didn't have time to finish them, and he even said he would like to use them in the next Zelda title.
Title: RE: The Legend of Zelda 2005 Preorder Ideas
Post by: RABicle on June 03, 2004, 03:55:19 AM
There were three and it's obvious where they all were. Fire island was supposed to be a fire dungeon, same for ice island and it's a safe bet that Jabun just giving you the pearl wasn't the original intention. Hmm yeah what am I saying? Oh yeah, 3 missing dungeons, not 2.

It would be nice to see what these were going to be. It would also be nice to see some of the original ideas for OOT (using elemental medalions to charge any item) implemented.
