Title: Theory about $129 X-Box
Post by: the_zombie_luke on May 06, 2004, 08:40:03 PM
I have read many times that Sony will cut the PS2 to $129 after E3, which seems possible. Which would mean Microsoft would be forced to slash the X-Box price even more to match this price, since they would have no choice but to follow Sony. So, does my theory seem realistic, or am I just too hopeful? I do hope the X-Box goes to this price, since Ninja Gaiden seems pretty good, and the X-Box has many third-party games that are not on GameCube.

If ps2 hits 129, it makes sense for Xbox to match. Generally how it happens. Now going below the price of ps2, that may be too hopeful.

Why would Sony drop the PS2 that low? Wouldn't they rather go to 180 or 150 first?

They are already at $180 for the core PS2 system and $200 for the network bundle. Going to $129 would ignite sales, and I think Sony might go for that price.

Not if they don't need to. But with e3 comming, we will all see what is what.

according to gamerfeed.com, xbox outsold ps2 for the month of april. if this is true, sony might be forced to cut the price of the ps2 to boost sales. i could see sony trying to one-up microsoft and drop to $130 instead of $150.

I'd say Sony can sit back and wait. MS got a boost from the price cut, nothing sustainable.

I don't know about you guys, but in my part of the country *NW, USA* the Xbox has been $130 for a while now. I don't see why if Sony dropped that low, why Microsoft would have to follow, because they already are there...
If I am missing something, let me know, but it's 129 around here.

Well, the PS2 is officially 149 dollars now. I can't see the X-Box going any lower than that, they'd lose so much money on each system sold that it's not even funny. I mean, they're already losing money now, so why make it worse?

Yea I am guessing that the PS2, Cube, and XBox will all stay at their current prices for this gen. They really cannot afford to drop much more.
