Your right, it could get lost in that shuffle, but that depends on if all of those games come out on time, which if they did, would be the seventh sign of the Apocalypse, and BK not getting its proper respect would be the least of your worries.

But in all seriousness, I highly doubt that a somewhat anticapated RPG would be lost amongst the big games this winter, espeacially because we, as GCN owners, get so few.

Edit: I left out a word.

Its biggest competition is another namco title.

I've seen some polls in an article about Nintendo's non-downfall, BK was the most anticipated third party game after RE4, just a few percent in front of ToS.

If it's an RPG and it isn't a Final Fantasy game the odds of it being ignored in North America are pretty high.  That happens all of the time regardless of when a game is released.  BK sounds like a cool game but it also sounds very niche and hardcore so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't do that well.  The important thing is that if you're interested in this game buy it new right when it comes out and tell your friends about it.  That's really all you can do and at least then you'll have a copy of the game just in case it becomes rare like Skies of Arcadia.

I had the same worries when reading that same article, Jessmo.  Namco has obviously put a lot of work into both their cube RPGs (I was pleasantly surprised to hear english voice acting in both games), and I am worried they won't be compensated for their effort.
The gamecube has both some of the most informed and some of the most ignorant fans.  I have nothing against Pokemon, but it irks me that Nintendo could have some people slap together a Pokemon RPG and it will probably sell 5 times as many copies even though nowhere near the effort was placed into the game.  This game is original and deserves to succeed.

"And I bet it had everything to do with graphical look... -______- "

The tales series is established already though, so some like me, might be in it for the originality.  Still, Phantasia rocked and it looks like Symphonia has the same appeal.

"If it's an RPG and it isn't a Final Fantasy game the odds of it being ignored in North America are pretty high."

True but what is really sad is that FF is primarily respected for its graphics, nowadays, and BK delivers big time and won't do nearly as well.

Has there been an official release date set by Namco? I'm looking forward to both this and Tales of Symphonia. Graphics in Baten Kaitos are impressive but I'm wondering if the card based battle system might scare some people off? I was sort of hesitiant myself until I saw the BK trailers. Nice.

Tales is a definite sale for me, though.

The card system scared me away.  That level of de-emphasis on direct character control is too abstract for me.

Tales of Symphonia, however, is just what the doctor ordered for me.

Hmmm, that's a very strong point.  DEVELOPERS up-the-hole would help speed up the localization process, thus possibly giving BK a more advantagous release period.  But we must not forget, DELAYS would also move the titles around in such as way that would keep the waters from beeing too saturated.

Releasing BK close to Pikmin 2's release (a month after ToS) could be a nice, tho unrealistic, possibility.

I think it'll do a 1080 and be released in December, and then bomb because people already spent their money on Metroid Prime 2 and Resident Evil 4. I'll buy it though! (in 2005, which is when the PAL version will arrive)

I think BK (holy hades, I can't spell it, so it winds up as Burger King) will do okay no matter what...it's interesting that everyone here is worried for it because it's going to have a holiday release!  I wish more game publishers would think like that.  A lot of games that fell in the good to outstanding range failed last Christmas, and I think some of them would have done a lot better if they hadn't been forced to compete with all the other major holiday titles.
