Title: Eternal Darkness - Strange Music Question
Post by: LordStarfox on April 23, 2004, 12:50:27 AM
Ok this a tad random but does anyone know what the peice of music thats used in the opening monologue is? You know right at the start where we see shots ot the tomb? I've heard it in so many films, games, tv show's, etc and I really want to know what it is! It was even in Shadowman (N64). Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks a lot.

No clue.  Try checking the game's credits.  It's probably a royalty-free sound bite, which is why it's shows up in different places.

Nope. I emailed Silicon Nights but they never replied. Guess I'll just have to keep bugging them till they tell me. Wondered if it might be on the eternal darkness soundtrack but I'm pretty sure it's a royalty free pice of music so probably not.

To be honest I'm not really sure which exact piece of music you are referring to.
Is it the music that starts when the game loads up and the Eternal Darkness logo fades in kind of like Twilight Zone style? Or is it the music when you start a new game & Edward Roivas says the introduction? Does it appear in the Tome Of Eternal Dakrkness's cinema clips?

It's the Edward Rovias introduction. I think I've found it...sort of. I'm a big fan of this anime show called Noir and was listening to the soundtrack the other day when low and behold I stumbeled across the track. It's called Church. They've added on some cool instramental bits but It's the same song. Woohoo!

Wooo. This is the song alright. It's got more church bells in the background than the ED version. Good stuff nonetheless.

I seriously doubt that the original piece is called Church - it's a gregorian(-esque) chant, and considering that they were wall sung in churches, I doubt that such a generic name would be given to one.

Frankly, I couldn't tell you the name of the chant they used if I tried. They may not even be the same chant (I haven't checked, though). Chants are specifically without rhythm or whatnot, and in Latin. I don't understand spoken latin, let alone the chanted stuff. That makes it more difficult for me, at least, to recognize them.

For another good example of Gregorian chant used in contemporary music, listen to Sadness by Enigma.
