Title: Original FF for GBA
Post by: Pale on April 22, 2004, 04:03:21 AM
According to magic box, Square-Enix is planning a completely original FF title for GBA.  Apparently PSP won't be getting all of their portable support.  Seems cool.  They also say that although FF III was requested by Nintendo, it in fact, turned into FF I & II.  Not so sure I like that.

That is an attempted link...its hard to link to stuff at magicbox, its about half way down the april 21st section under portables.

Bloodworth: I edited your title because at first I thought you were talking about the NES game.

Magic Box should put up a meter to let people know how reliable a story is.  As far as I know the site's mainly based on hearsay, and you can never tell what's real or not.

"They also say that although FF III was requested by Nintendo, it in fact, turned into FF I & II. Not so sure I like that."

Neither do I.  What sort of deal is that?

Nintendo:  Hi, we would like FF III released on the GBA so we can not only have the first ever remake of it but the first release of it in North America.
Square Enix:  No we're not going to do that.  Instead we'll give you ports of two games we ported to the Playstation just last year that any schmoe can find in any store that sells videogames.
Nintendo:  Um, okay.  So how about another Cube game?
Square Enix: No we're not going to do that.

A new GBA FF is pretty cool if it's true.  Though what I would really like to see is a new Cube Square Enix game.  If they only ever release one Cube game then they totally played Nintendo like a fiddle.  Only a total sap would exchange unlimited GBA development rights for ONE GAME.

pale, when you say ff iii do you mean ff 3j, or ff 6j?

I'm pretty sure he means FF 3j.  That's what I interpreted it as.

Well, Magic-box doesn't really make the differentiation either, but I assumed they meant 3j as well.

As far as their reliability is concerned, I'm a relatively new reader of the site but I personally think its the best multiplatform news site around.  Its also cool because it has such an international flare.  Usually they have a bold RUMOR before things they aren't sure about, but you're right Bloodworth, they do seem to post about every possible thing out there....  I dunno, part of the reason i put it here was to see what the mods have to say about it, and apparenlty you haven't heard anything?

I found some links, after a quick Google search.

Edit: For those who don't feel like clicking and reading, I'll stitch together and paraphrase some bits of it.

Square was thinking about releasing the Famicom versions of FF1 & FF2j as "Famicom Mini" series games, but decided to put the superior "remakes" on the GBA instead.

Nintendo specifically asked Square/Enix for a FF3j remake (Yay Nintendo!). Whether this was before or after Square/Enix thought about joining in on the Famicom Mini fun is unclear.

FF3j's mystery problems are still unexplained, but Square hasn't "abandoned" FF3j, and has still been working on the game (perhaps at a "back burner" level), and the problems may or may not have been worked out by now. They just weren't worked out in time for the Wonderswan or PSone.

A GBA version of FF3j "may be a possibility".

Takashi Tokita, the producer on these games, and the director of Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve, says that he "could see himself" making an all-new game for the GBA (not specifically a FF game, apparently), instead of just non-stop ports/remakes.

Hopefully, the FF3j deal will go through. It wouldn't be fair for just Japanese players to have a chance to have all the main Final Fantasy Titles. But then again, when is this world fair?

What!?  From what I have read around, Tokita said that a remake of FFIIIj isn't out of the question...

Why has FF3j been left out, so far?  Every other NES/SNES FF game has been released on PSone.  Is there a reason for this?  Does the game have something that Western gamers won't enjoy, or something?

AiAi: There are rumors that there is a reason behind this, but noone knows what it is.

I think is saw on gamespot that square was making a new final fantasy, it better be turned based and a spin off of ff3 wouldnt be bad either.  I bet square's saving final fantasy 2 and 3 for the snes for the psp. Stupid.  I also heard that final fantasy 1 and 2 will be like 45 bucks.
