Title: Dengeki Charts
Post by: Mingesium on February 06, 2003, 07:41:00 AM
1/27/03 - 2/2/03

6) Pocket monster ruby 27,960 (1,901,365)
7) Pocket monster sapphire 27,690 (1,942,350)
18) Zelda: Wind Waker 8,313 (595,863)
21) World soccer winning eleven 6 7,043 (7,043)
30) Mario Party 4 4,970 (736,521)
40) Biohazard 0 3,600 (312,583)

Pokemon is going strong. Both games should pass the 2 million mark soon. Zelda is has lost steam, but I think it will hover around the 10,000 mark for awhile. It is too bad Winning Eleven didn't have a great debut. Hopefully sales would pick up for this great game. Mario Party 4 and Resident Evil Zero will be off the charts soon.

Next Weeks Games
February 6, 2003 Generation of Chaos Exceed RPG Idea Factory E
February 7, 2003 Nintendo Puzzle Collection Puzzle Nintendo E

I don't know what the first game is, but it is an RPG so I hope it sells well. I believe Nintendo Puzzle Collection would be a bigger seller.

Other Systems

14)  XBox DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme Beach Volleyball 11,270 (89,841)

those numbres somewhat depressing. the media create numbers(i think thats what it is) are way higher. re0 looks like its selling poorly, but it sold better then the remake, and i think it will meet capcoms expectations of 1.3 million worldwide. the good thing about zelda is that it will sell just as good in north america and europe. i am sure it could reach 3 million worldwide. and mario party4 has done very well in the us and japan. nintendo is look alright for now.

I am suprised Zelda is not selling better. It will be real interesting to see how the US audience recieves the new Zelda.
The day is fast approaching.

I think that Zelda will do much better here in the US that in Japan.

Zelda has sold better in the US than Japan in the past.

Not to mention just because it drops off the the top 10 charts doesn't mean it stops selling. They will be selling new copies of the bigger hits for years now, so they will eventually break a few million in each of the markets.

I don't mean to be an ass or anything, but honestly people, its a sticky topic right at the top of the boards.

Rules and Regulations:  Do NOT copy and paste from other sites!

You are just asking to get into trouble, I have scanned these forums for like 5 minutes... and I have seen it 3(!!!!) times.  If you read the thread posted above, it makes ALOT of sense and it is just webmaster ettiquete.

what are you talking about. The fact that this topic has been open for 11 hours when you posted that comment shows that the mods have no problem with this thread. If I just copyed the top 50 and posted it, maybe the mods would care. I'm just giving sales data about Japan. There is a difference between copy and paste a whole article and taking a piece of an article and analzing it. I know the rules. If a mod has problem with me posting data, then they would tell me.

Cru_Jones83, Mingesium didnt copy and paste the whole article, so it's ok. Anyway, it looks like Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire have almost outsold Pokemon Gold & Silver! Who were all the people who thought Pokemon was a fad, cmon, stand up, dont be shy.. *watches as 50 people stand up in shame*

Not quite.  According to The-MagicBox, Pokemon Gold sold 3.30 million copies and Pokemon Silver sold 3.41 million.  So, Ruby and Sapphire are only a bit over halfway to outselling Gold and Silver. Still, it's a very attainable goal if sales remain steady throughout the rest of the year.

Well, it seems that Gamecube sales have come back down to earth now that the holiday season is over.  The problem is that I don't see any GCN product that can seriously reinvigorate sales in Japan until Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles comes out.  Square thinks that it can sell one million copies, for Nintendo's sake, I hope they do.

Odd that DMC get slammed by the critics yet look at the sales.... Zelda doesnt get the sales. Worrying if i do say so myself. Nintendo needs to work with its advertising departments both USA and Abroad. Finally  they need to release Winning 11 in Europe instead of ISS

42) World soccer winning eleven 6 2,475 (9,518)
48) From TV animation ONEPIECE treasure battle! 2,290 (207,926)

Pokemon are almost at two million. It should hit that mark in a couple of weeks. Nintendo Puzzle Collection had a solid debut. Nothing is coming up for the GameCube next week so it should stay on top. It looks like everyone has the PS2 version of Winning Eleven.

6) Metroid Fusion 48,156 (48,156)
9) Pocket monster sapphire 27,050 (1,994,220)

47) From TV animation ONEPIECE treasure battle! 2,720 (210,646)

GBA SP came out this week. FFT had a great debut and Metroid had some solid numbers. Pokemon is almost off the top ten. Biohazard 0 and Winning Eleven dropped off the top 50. Metroid Prime comes out the week after next week. It is going against a bunch of good PS2 games so it should be interesting.

Nice to see Tactics and Fusion debut so good and high, hopefully this will continue!

Yeah I've heard about the great start the SP, Tactics, and Fusion had. So I'm glad to see some hard numbers. I'm always amazed by the differences between the Dengeki and Media Crate charts. Anyone know why there are differences. I mean game sales on the Media Create charts are always substantially higher....do they count the number of units shipped? And does Dengeki count the actual units sold through?

Post by: Mingesium on February 20, 2003, 06:50:05 AM
Dengeki and Media Create both count number sold. They get different numbers because they sample from different stores. The NPD charts sample about 60% of the US market. They extrapolate their data to come up with other 40%. If another company samples 50% of the US company, they would have different data then the NPD charts.

Zelda sales are higher on Media Crete than Dengeki, but Pokemon is higher on Dengeki charts. The official sales that companies use is media create. I only have access to the top ten each week so I don't post them. Dengeki charts are top 50 and give out the total sales with the weekly sales.

Zelda isn't doing as bad as it seems. It has sold 601,230 this year. And in Decemeber it sold around 448,606 so it has broke the one million mark in sales. Which most titles can't say for them selves before falling off the chart.

Another thing to note Ruby and Sapphire have already broke the 3 million each because between the two they sold around 3,197,762, or 1,598,881 each avg. So that make it approximately 3,500,246 copies of Ruby Sold, and 3,541,231 copies of Saphire sold and they haven't even been released in any other market as of yet.

/me scratches head

I haven't seen so much fuzzy math in a while.  Not quite sure where you are getting your numbers from, but I assure you that Zelda has sold 600k total in Japan.  And despite reading your second paragraph several times, I have no idea what sort of odd equation you're using.  Both Pokemon games have sold about 2 million each, or 4 million together.

Actually, now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is.  While charts such as Dengeki and Media Crate post only the yearly total for consoles sold (The # of consoles sold by each company since Jan. 1, 200X), the same does not apply for software sales. Those sales "are" cumulative.

I think you need to check your sources or mathematic skills, because Zelda:WW has sold 600,000+ in total. And of Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire "only" 2 million copies each have been shipped by Nintendo.

8) Final Fantasy Tactics 33,911 (324,444)
10) Pokemon Sapphire 17,967 (2,029,945)
12) Pokemon Ruby 14,250 (1,981,082)
15) Metroid Fusion 12,480 (84,347)
27) Nintendo Puzzle Collection 6,380 (68,833)
43) Zelda: Wind Waker 4,267 (615,116)

Metroid Prime had a solid debut. 44,100 in three days is pretty good. The game is still in the Japan top 10 daily charts so its going nowhere. Pokemon refuses to leave the top ten. Mario Party 4 is fell off the chart. I think that it was due to all the new games released this week and it may return to the charts next week. Megaman EXE Transmission comes out next week. The GBA games are popular so the GameCube version may sell well.

It will be real interesting to see Zelda's numbers in the US when the time comes.
I know there are about 250k in pre orders because of the bonus disk, but will it sell to anyone else?
I would think that if you were going to buy it you would take advantage of the pre order offer, wouldnt you?
I have spoken to a few people I know who "were" Zelda fanatics who said they wont be buying it after seeing and playing the demos.
The month after it comes out should produce the most interesting sales charts in Cube history.

250K was before the bonus disc offer officially even started. I would not be surprised if it is getting close to 350K now that it was advertised. Too bad they are not doing the bonus disc anymore at least for the time being.

10) Pokemon Sapphire 15,467 (2,045,412)

38) Zelda Wind Waker 3,756 (618,872)
49) Mario Party 4 2,550 (753,973)

Not so great debut for Megaman. I expect better because of the popularity of the gba games. I guess since their not the same type of game, it would have different sales. Pokemon is still in the top ten. Ruby will pass the 2 million next week. Mario Party 4 is back on the chart. I don't think that anything comes out next week.

Heh . . . it is not out of the realm of possibility that North American Zelda preorder numbers will be greater than the amount of copies The Wind Waker has sold total so far in Japan in a three month span.  I don't think anyone would have fathomed such a possibility six months ago.

I'll have to agree with Mingnesium and say that Mega Man EXE Transmission's debut is exceedingly disappointing.  When the week was the game released?  Metroid Prime is losing momentum a bit quicker than I anticipated but is still doing great for a game with a first-person point of view.

Different culture, different interests.

Japan isn't "stupid" for not liking certain games for Metroid Prime.

For example, I'm not much of a fan of FPS games for the PC.  While I LOVE strategy games.  I can play the best FPS game out there as deemed by mnay but I still probably wont like.   On the hand, if given the best RTS game, I would be in heaven.

Mario if you have seen how well Halo sold in Japan you would know that Japanese gamers don't care for first person games. Dating sim games don't sell here in the US. Different tastes for different cultures....it doesn't make anyone stupid. Anyway if I remember correctly Halo only sold 50,000 copies....seems Metroid Prime has outsold it already. Honestly I didn't expect Metroid to sell 50,000 copies in 2 months. Its sold nearly 60k copies in two weeks. I'm sure the game is doing much better than Nintendo anticipated.

Americans don't like RPGs that much. The exception seems to be Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest 7 sold like 4 million in Japan. In the US, Dragon Warrior 7 didn't even past 200,000.

GaimeGuy simply implied that the Japanese thought that Americans were stupid for not taking a liking to Japanese RPGs (pre-Final Fantasy 7), just as you jokingly wrote that the Japanese are stupid for not taking a liking to American first-person perspective games.

Nintendo has found a hit in Made in Wario. I could see this game staying in the top ten for awhile. Next week is pretty big with the release of Soul Calibur 2 and PN03. PN03 has seem to bomb. I haven't seen the game in the top ten daily charts. Soul Calibur 2 for GCN could be the best selling version. The last daily chart I saw had it #7 while the PS2 version was at #10.

Considering the huge difference in userbase, Soul Calibur 2 sold very well on GC in comparison to the PS2 version. As far as the X-box goes.....i don't even see why they have a Japanesw division at this point. X-box sales in Japan are horrendous.....below the level of PS1 last time I checked.

Product Number 3 didn't do too well of a debut.
Made in Wario is doing great, too bad for Prime.
Lets hope SC 2 continues to sell!

PN03 didn't do too bad because Capcom only shipped 20,000. I guess Capcom didn't expect much from the game.

April looks like it could be a good month for GameCube.

April 11, 2003 Naruto
April 25, 2003 Giftpia

Naruto has been getting solid reviews. Being an anime fighter, I think that it could sell well. I don't know how well Giftpia will do. Japan likes RPGs but Giftpia isn't your typical RPG.

Nothing big this week. Wario continues to sell. Wind Waker is still on the charts. Hikaru no Go 3 came out of nowhere to climb to number 47. Naruto gets release next week. It should have similar numbers to Shaman King.

Mario Sunshine and Mario Party 4 only sold 600K-700K (according to Magic Box). The only million plus in Japan for the cube is Smash Brothers. Sadly, this sounds about right for Zelda. I expect it to peak around 750K for the year (in Japan).

Naruto had a great debut at number 4. Wario Ware continues to sell. The pokemon games seem to have slowed down. SCII GC outsold the PS2 version this week. Will it pass it overall? P.N.03 looks like it will be off the charts in the coming weeks. Nothing new next week. I expect Wario Ware and Naruto to continue in the top ten. Giftpia comes out in a  couple weeks.

Yeah the GC version of SC2 surpassing the PS2 version in sales last week is a bit of a surprise. Whats not surprising is the X-box version dropping off of the face of the Earth....okay sorry that was mean. Now that we have that out of the way....where are the US numbers. We normally get them about this time of the month. I want to see how well the GC is doing here. BTW See everyone I can make a post that is less than 40 lines in length

Giftpia had disappointing numbers. I expected more from this game. Fire Emblem had a huge debut. Note to NOA: Bring the game to the states. Wario Ware continues to sell. The GCN version of Soul Calibur II is the only version left on the chart, but it won't pass the PS2 version overall.

Wario Ware and Naruto should break 300,000 and 100,000, respectively next week. Naruto will be the first GC game release this year to break 100,000. I'm surprise that it took this long because the XBox already had a game break 100,000 (DOAX). Fire Emblem is lighting up the charts. Zelda makes a return and Soul Calibur II is hanging in there.

Pokemon Box takes the number one spot. 78k in a couple of days is not bad. Wario Ware and Fire Emblem are doing good, and Fire Emblem passed the 200k mark. Family Stadium debut at number 8 but only sold ~11k. Rune II seems to have bomb and will be off the charts soon.

edit: June preview
June seems to be a good month for GCN in Japan

June 12, 2003   Viewtiful Joe
June 27, 2003   Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
June 30, 2003   Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
June 2003   Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut

I don't know how well Tony Hawk has done in Japan, but the other three games should sell pretty well.

Ahem, anyway. It should be interesting to see how Viewtiful Joe does, it comes out next week i think? Decent, but not incredible sales for Pokemon box, however i expect it to hang around the top ten for a while. Mario Golf will sell about 500-700k i reckon, and when Mario Kart comes out it will sell over a million easily. I really have no idea about FF:CC, it could bomb? it could be really successful?

Good numbers Wario Ware, keep on selling. Rather dissapointing for Sonic DX, but we'll see how it holds up over the weeks. Pokemon is STILL there! Pokemon Coluseum and Mario Kart i predict will put GC in front of PS2 for weekly sales. Viewtiful Joe will most likely bomb, but anything is possible i guess.

Only reason X-Box has increase is because of Dino Crisis 3.
Next week it'll probably go back to its normal under 1000 mark.
Hopefully Japan gets more Viewtiful Joe fast!
I want to see it reach 1 million!

Until I get a link to an official source I believe they are fake. There is no way the X-box got that close to the PS2 in sales. Sorry just not buying it. Also GC sales were supposed to be up by 24% over last year and last year it sold more  than 149,408 units in June.

Yeah FF: CC sold much better than I expected. I hope the game has staying power. F-Zero was one and done on the Japanese charts and Kirby's Air Ride is selling quite well......I thought it would have been the other way around. BTW Any word on Mingesium? I haven't seen him quite some time and he used to frequent this topic.

Damn! Sales of all consoles are up! Looks like FF:CC sold alot of GBA's, SP's and Gamecubes. FF:CC should continue selling well because its a multiplayer game. PS2 sales are also up. Nice to see Kirby keep selling. No sign of Viewtiful Joe or F-Zero GX, we wont see how they are doing until we get the top 50. With Mario Kart, Pokemon Coluseum, Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2, Billy Hatcher, Killer 7, Tales of Symphonia and MUCH MORE the cube will only continue selling this well and possibly even take over the PS2 towarsd the end of the year.

Its good to see that F-Zero GX hasn't completely tanked in Japan. I feared the worse after it disappeared from the top 10 after its first week. Its good see its sold another 45,000 copies after is first week. I'm interested to see how well Tales of Symphonia well sell. Namco's goal is 500,000 copies sold. I hope they hit that.

you and me both brother  i think that namco will meet those expectations- i dont know about it in the first week of sales but in the long run they will- namco usually underestimates what they will sell- for example- xenosaga when released in the US namco expected 100,000 sold but they sold over 200,000 going well over what they expected- i hope this happens with tales and i hope that it will help push gamecubes off the shelf as final fantasy cc has

That is sweet, 17 out of the 30 are Nintendo platform titles.  30% sell through for Donkey Konga......I was expecting more than that, oh well.  Hopefully it will pick up speed.

NOooooOOOO Baten Kaitos is sooo low ...Why ? It looks like such a good game. That not right. Also Donky Konga should be higher ...But I think that will be in the charts for a long time.

P.S- The site where I find out about japansese sales etc has not being updated...any suggestions for a new site?

i think it was a bad thing that the n64 was successful in the us, beacuse people remember it and how it got so much less games... and they man not want to buy a cube because they rememeber n64.

Well Nintendo seem to be doing pretty well for themselves, lots of high sellers there. Sonic Hero's seems to have bombed, and the GC version outsold the PS2 version. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire are still amazingly in the top 30 after over one year in the charts, and still selling out every single shipment, it seems. Mario Kart, Mario Party 5, Pokemon Colosseum and Donkey Konga still hanging around, and still selling strongly. Xbox manages to outsell PSone and WonderSwan combined, quite a feat. PS2 and GBA SP still selling insanely high amounts, GameCube selling over 100,000 again, which is awesome, and.. yeah.

That game, like it's precedessor, will remain Japan only. There's a review of the first on PGC, the second adds more characters and stuff.

Didn't IGN have some videos of that Naruto Fighting game?  Looked pretty bad ass to me when I saw them.
