Title: Homeland *Psst its an online game!*
Post by: Draygaia on April 04, 2004, 07:18:20 PM

I just wonder what the fees are.  From what I know about online games its more expensive on consoles.  Am I right?

Damn its online...  That was so unexpected and the amazing thing is its on the GCN.  Good thing there are two discs.  Well just in case we don't want to play online because of monthly payments.

i thought i read in that article it wasn't gonna have fees...maybe i should check it out again...

EDIT: ah yes, here is why i thought that - "Instead of having players connecting to a dedicated game server or online service a la Xbox Live, the dungeon master's GameCube acts as the server, allowing up to 30 players to connect and participate in the game."  See, the company doesn't need to provide servers so therefore probably(and better not) won't have any fees.

It has a GM, so it'll probably be a bit like a pen&paper RPG. I have doubts this one will see a release outside of Japan, though.

Developers supporting something Nintendo supplied then broke wind on are a-okay in my book.
The two disc thing is a great idea. I wish this game the best of luck, *BLOWS KISSES HUGGLE POUNCES STRANGE GURNSOFT*

Zoidberg: The person providing the server would become the GM, so I guess he can't play normally (you could *probably* spawn yourself a character that you control, but since you're the game's equivalent of God as well you might have problems staying objective.

Mr. Von Riktor feels that jmoe is a genius.

That's exactly it!  This is Nintendo's no-pay plan; it's online, but not.  I think Homeland just kinda leaked...I bet it was to be introduced at E3 to introduce Ninty's "online" plan.

Mr. Von Riktor thinks the plan should be called "teh fun whuzzup aaaaagh"

I just wonder if PSO will support teh fun whuzzup aaaaaagh?

Gah!  Stop speaking in third person, you! *shakes fist*

As long as it's free it's fine with me, though I was definitely getting this game long before online was revealed...

You obviously don't understand.  Mr. Von Riktor lives in the tavern in my head; I am not Mr. Von Riktor.  I'm talking completely in first person.  Oh, and Mr. Von Riktor seconds this post.

How is online gaming with the Cube? I didn't even know it was possible until I read the manual yesterday...and I've had the cube sense X-mas...*sigh*... I was wondering why it isn't popular. Is it because it's not advertised well or what?

It's online, it's an *RPG*, it's on GameCube -- and it's not graphically stunning.  Are we getting the short end again somewhere...?

Online stuff looks interesting tho, and the people look funny, which is a plus.

"I was wondering why it isn't popular. Is it because it's not advertised well or what?"

It isn't popular because there's only two online Cube games released thus far and Nintendo has publicly bashed online play from day one thus killing any interest from developers.  In other words Nintendo DECIDED online gaming would flop on the Cube and has done everything in their power to fulfill that prophesy.

As much as I love my Cube, the PC remains my No.1 choice for online gaming... unless Nintendo unveil a huge online plan with many great games... but that seems unlikely.
