If the Nintendo DS is as strong as the N64, shouldn't the resolution be better better because of the size of the screen?

Errm, the screen is smaller, ergo needs less pixels. Of course that doesn't go well with small objects or lots of text, but you don't play consoles for their high resolutions, do you?

NDS is such a completely different product to the GBA that it won't have an effect on GBA SP sales.
I don't know about that.  Hopefully they are right; we all know how this (DS) will be perceived though.

I'm with you Kennyb.  This is going to affect to affect sales of SP.  I think Nintendo should just come out and say what they're thinking, though, "We already sold millions and everyone who wants an SP badly enough has one already."  I guess they don't want to scare the johnny-come-latelys.

If it cuts into the SP sales, who cares?  Those missing sales will end up in the same place anyway.  And a lot of SP users will buy this as well.  I just can't wait to see this thing in action.

I think what Nintendo means is that the DS is a completely different product than the GBA or SP.

I just wanna see what this thing looks like. I have an idea, but I don't have a graphic design program or the time to use it to show anyone. ^_^

I think the reason why Nintendo considers the DS a third pillar is that if it flops, they will just have to come up with a traditional successor to the GBA SP.  It doesn't hurt their market share in the portables arena at all.  If it is a success, then the DS will have come to be the successor to the GBA SP.  Win-win situation for them.  I believe Nintendo wants the DS to be the GBA sucessor, but they are introducing a new concept to portable gaming.  They don't want to risk it all on the DS.

I second that, and I think this should have been obvious for all of us by now. To me it seems Nintendo's PR is one that is quite honest and means what it says, literally (which is a rare thing nowadays, and one of the things I really appreciate).
