Title: Oh Noooooos!
Post by: Pale on March 09, 2004, 02:10:41 PM
I seem to be getting "Operation timed out" errors about 75% of the time. :-/ I hope its something silly and temporary.

I'm getting the same thing, on both Opera and Firefox, so I know it's not a browser thing. It's getting to be really annoying.

I get some of them, too, but only a few.

I don't know why this is happening. I'm actually getting this problem from time to time on other web sites as well.

i saw that bloodworth said in the master sword thread that the site's going slow because lots of people are coming by to look at pictures of the sword. could be the culprit for your time out errors.

We were slashdotted on Monday for the Master Sword article. Our traffic spiked dramatically, and that seems to be the source of the problems. However, the performance has not improved as much as I expected today, so if it is still like this tomorrow, I'll have our techies start looking at the problem seriously.

Yeah, places like Slashdot and Penny Arcade have that effect on sites. I remember manunited telling me the Mike Rowe guy (of www.mikerowesoft.com fame) had to give in after his site was slashdotted. I thought PGC could handle it, though, huh.
In any case, everything seems to be going fine, now.

That's weird.......I've been getting alot here but also at other places (GFF).........i think someone broke the interweb. ;__;
EDIT: Also, sometimes on 250free.com. But it seems that GFF is actually down or something, because usually within a couple of tries i can view what i wanted to access. Stupid gamingforce and their big confusing forums.........*hugs PGC*

I haven't had any of those errors that PaleZer0 mentioned but I'm certainly sensing some slowdown in these forums.
Off-Topic Knowsnothing> Sooooo, you wander at GFF?! So do I. They aren't so confusing once you get the hang of it. It sucks that they are down today and I don't even know why.

And it's still not back...That doesn't prove to be a good sign... :\

well GFF was getting regular back ups either from Bobo or Skate, I don't remember which, so it shouldn't be a whole new fresh start if that is the problem. I think it was backed up in January, the last I remember.
What is this timed out thing here, I just get a blank screen where I have to wait for anything to open up, that the same thing?

I haven't got any errors at all...must be "fixed".
Then again, maybe I'm just lucky...

Strange, even during the DoS attacks I didn't recieve any slowdown. I sure don't now.

Off-Topic Bill, nitsujdark> GFF is back, aparently the server crashed while the head administrator was on vacation. FYI no data was lost.
On-Topic PGC is running fine recently, that's a good sign.
