Title: Happy Birthday, Planet GameCube!
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on March 07, 2004, 06:34:03 AM
We’re five years old. That’s like, 130 in Internet years.

The N2000HQ was born on March 7, 1999. In five years, we’ve undergone two name changes, at least three redesigns, two site directors, hackers, DVDs, insane trips to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Japan, and elsewhere, and thousands of news stories, previews, reviews, impressions, and editorials. There have been some amazing highs and dismal lows, and sometimes we’ve begged for help from the readers just to survive. Today, Planet GameCube is alive and well, and we’re five years old.

When Billy Berghammer started this website on his personal web-space on a boring winter weekend, he probably didn’t think it would last more than a month. He certainly didn’t expect it to become a premiere independent Nintendo site, or that it would eventually lead to a real job with Game Informer. Personally, I always knew the site would be great, and that’s why I joined up with PlanetN2000 after meeting the staff at my first E3 Expo. I didn’t think I would ever become Director, of course, but I felt ready for the job when Billy handed over the reigns last year. What followed was a great trip to E3 and, later, an abysmal period of senseless DOS attacks and database hacking. Sometimes I felt more like the leader of a rescue team than the editor of a website. But we came through the storm and emerged anew on the other side, and now we’re poised to reclaim the title that we held so long: The Best Damn Nintendo Site in the World.

We’ve got the drive. We’ve got the talent. We’ve definitely got the experience. So keep your eyes firmly glued to PGC in 2004, because this is only the beginning.

Jonathan Metts
Director, Planet GameCube
Hopeless Nintendo Fan since 1987

Perrin Kaplan wishes us a happy fifth birthday

Todd McFarlane loves PGC...shouldn't you?

P.S. If you’re wondering when we’ll be announcing the big birthday contest, don’t worry, it’s coming in just a couple of days. We’re almost set for it, but we need to get confirmation on some of the prizes. We didn’t want to promise cool stuff and then not be able to get it, so please bear with us just a bit longer. It’s gonna be great!

Yay!

There were times where I thought about doing what probably many readers have done when the DOS attacks and hacker stuff was going on...stop visiting. But I had faith in the staf that they would be able to get the site back on its feet. You guys have had a tremendous job at getting this back together.

It's been 4 years for me visiting, here's hoping for at least another 4!

Happy Birthday PlanetGameCube!

That lady is Perrin Kaplan, blowhard for everything Nintendo, an annoying minx if you ask me.

But anyway, Happy Birthday PGC. I still remember the day i discovered you. Shortly after i was banned from Gamespot, 3 years ago. Their loss and my gain. All i ask is for more rumor/Louie type columns. I assure you, by posting some interesting rumors you will not turn into Spong or Nintendojo.

Bon Aniverserre!
Feliz Cumpleanos!

Break out the Strippers!

Seriously, thanks for being one the premier independent gaming sites for all things Nintendo. For not stooping to the lowest common denominator, and giving us news, previews and reviews, as well as a place to vent our rants, incessent babbling, etc.

This one's for you

Happy 5th Year Planet GameCube!

Wow, I can't believe it's been 5 years! Lordy, it's just amazing all that has happened in just one year.

I just want to give a big hearty congrats to all you guys. You've kicked some serious ass this past year through thick and thin. You've made it through some serious crap, and I want you all to know that I'm proud to see you guys persevere though everything. Jonny, you've done one hell of a job with the peeps, and the rest of you guys have done a great job of keeping TEH SEXIE in line.

Keep on kickin' ass. We'll see you in the trenches

Word.

"When do I think the new Nintendo console will be out? Hmmmm…that’s a good question. Unfortunately, later than sooner I believe. Possibly Mid to late 2001."

Pretty much dead on with that prediction.

Anyway congratulations on five years and keep up the good work.

5 years....wow.
I've been at PGC for two years now; in the forums for a year and a half, and heaps of people here are my mates.
I don't really remember how I found out about PGC (remember the old grey and green design? ) but it was either from IGN64 or the long-since-defunt Tendo Box wesbite.
Then after a while of internet monotony, i made a 'life-changing' decision to finally join my first forums.
The PGC forums.
Attack of the Clones had been out earlier that year, and my hate for Anakin Skywalker grew to greater heights. And in the interests of using sms-style text, came up with the name 'Termin8Anakin', a nice, symmetrical name

And thus started my new, internet e-life.
Ahhhh, the memories......

Happy 5th Birthday, Planet Gamecube!!!!

Happy Birthday Planet GameCube!
Five years is impressive for a video game site these days, what with new ones popping up all over the place every three seconds. Not only has PGC kept providing the latest Nintendo news (often getting it before other places ), but the forum is the best thing ever, because I've met so many awesome people here. KEEP ON ROCKIN' PGC. HERE'S TO ANOTHER 400 GA-ZILLION YEARS.

Yeh Congrats to everyone that's been involved with Planet Gamecube over the last 5 years!

I discovered the site towards the end of it's N2000 days (I think it was), and I have to admit I have been worried about your future a couple of times (especially the pleas for donations a couple of years ago), but I'm glad that you guys have survived and continue to be one of my favourite sites!

Here's to another 5 years!!!

My songs seem to suck. Mostly because I usually keep my first try no matter what happens. Like my mom walking in on me and calling the song "cute."

It's tyme for Infernal to sing, and for Termin8 to make a funny picture (cough::allofthestaffasbabies::cough)

That was awsome, KnowsNothing. I'll make a celebratory, extra-cheesey (no lyrics, sorry) MIDI in a few days, and I'll try and get someone to host it. Or I'll email it to people and it will be small enough to fit in a* Hotmail inbox.

* I refuse to use "an" before an "h"

Do what you did with Knows' song to listen/download =p

Quite seriously, I had 'some' sort of lyrics planned out, but it fell to bits when the song started. And I think that's a good thing. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The BGM is 'Star Base - Turtles in Time' for those playing at home.

Thanks everyone! =D

Infernal: Cool song. =) Planning is for little sissy boys. =P (I did plan for MC's first one though. But no one cares. =P)

I wish I had an accent like that. I know! Next song I make, I'll pretend to be an Aussie (and disgrace the entire culture)!

my song was "Cheese Wheels of Doom" from Bubsy fir the SNES oh, and ocarina, why would you put an "an" in front of hotmail anywho? CONFUSE'D

EDIT???
PaleZero: ooooooooooooooooh! alright then, didn't think of that (even with me talking about accents)=P

Infernal: I don't think if IE has a "copy link location" feature, so I would assume it would be difficult for IE users to copy the actual address (they'd have to mouse over it and type it in the address bar, I believe) Anyhow, here's the actual address just to make it a bit easier:

Well, once I was writing a design document with me mate, and part of the front page read: "an MMOPRG". My friend and I had a huge argument over where 'an' should be placed. In front of the 'M' (as it is prounced 'em') was fine with with me, but we got sidetracked and he bought up the phrase 'an hour'. Because the 'h' in 'hour' is a vowel sound, I'll use 'an' with it; but I refuse to use 'an' in front of any word that begins with a more emphasised 'h' (such as 'Hotmail'.) Do you guys in America/Eurpoe say 'an hour'? It's used universally here, I always wondered if that was just the accent.

Not that any of that was relevant here, it's just become a habit of correcting my friend's unholy, deluded ways ^_^

P.S. My accent is so strong people from Auckland (that's a city up North here) tease me about it. I can barley speak English sometimes, but it's awsome anyway

Now that second one's just weird, KnowsNothing...but thanks again!

Post by: KnowsNothing on March 10, 2004, 12:52:58 AM
=O

Maybe Miss Understanding is standing upon you....I put that link there to make it easier to listen to Infernal Monkey's song. So you just called it weird =P (no, I can't fake an aussie accent THAT well )

And yes, we do so "an hour" because you don't pronounce the "h". Well, that's what they tell me, but I have the sneaking suspicion that it's a government cover up...........they don't want us to know that "h" is really another vowel.

Why sometime's "y" though? Isn't a vowel long only sometime's? What's up with that?
Title: RE: Happy Birthday, Planet GameCube!
Post by: Pale on March 10, 2004, 03:02:00 AM
Well yeah, everyone says "an hour" cause hour is pronounced our....I dunno... I'm confused.. =P
Title: RE: Happy Birthday, Planet GameCube!
Post by: Bill Aurion on March 10, 2004, 03:09:26 AM
You're supposed to put "an" before some h words because the h is silent...

And KN, you just confused me with "Isn't a vowel long only sometimes?" If something is "only," it is only that, not "sometimes"
Title: RE: Happy Birthday, Planet GameCube!
Post by: KnowsNothing on March 10, 2004, 08:49:08 AM
Wasn't Ocarnina asking if we say "an hour"?

Yeah, and Bill, I can't imagine that what I said confused you more than what you said confused me.

i tried to make that sound confusing. you had to read it twice didn't you? HMMMM?
