Title: Champions of Norrath recalled?
Post by: joeamis on February 18, 2004, 09:06:23 AM
does anyone know if this game is being recalled yet?
my copy would always result in disc read error, while every other DVD game I own works,
so I returned the copy today and got a new one, and I have the same exact problem, and the employee at gamestop said he's had other copies returned because of this problem.
anyone hear anything yet?

Well after many hours on the phone with Sony, I now know that Champions of Norrath uses a new dual layered DVD technology and it DOES NOT WORK ON ANY 1ST GENERATION PS2 SYSTEMS atleast, and it might not work on even newer ones than that.

Sony's customer service proved to be beyond horrible save for the fact that they waived the fee for my PS2 to be "repaired", anyways the whole experience turned me off Sony and more towards Nintendo and dare I say it XB...

wow ... a ps2 game that doesn't work on all ps2 systems?  sony never ceases to amaze me.  only sony would allow a game to be put out that doesn't work on its own system.

there wasn't even a warning on the box about that?  for shame.

the worst part is the game was published and distributed by Sony's own
Sony Online Entertainment...  1st party in a sense

Is XB meant as an emoticon or as XBox here? Somehow MS products always make nice emoticons (XP)

lol it's meant as Xbox, I've had so much trouble with the PS2 and Sony that I might just
destroy it all in a rage of fury and go buy an xbox.

ofcourse my gamecube won't get hurt even though i never play the thing anymore

The game doesn't even work well on later generations of PS2s, my family has had it freeze more times than we can count. This is absolutely unacceptable for a console game. There is no excuse. I'm enraged, but not surprised, I've never had any faith in Sony.

It is also shorter and easier than Baldurs Gate (the reason I bought CoN). And for all the levels and spells the box boasts it sure seems scant, I guess they thought the poorly "random-generated" levels would make up for uninspired locales, spells and items. I was thoroughly disappointed.

The worst part is they didn't seem to feel the need to TELL anyone about it. This is all news to me, and I must say I'm even more ticked off than I already was.

What boggles the mind is people still continue to buy Sony products.  My family has not had a good experience with their products.

And I still don't understand why gamers continue to buy 2-3 PS2s if they keep breaking down.  If it was me, I would have said "To hell with you Sony" and never buy a Sony product again.

The game is shorter. At best it is the same length. I know because I played and finished them both (as well as BG:DA 2).

Maybe the one player game doesn't have random levels, I'm nearly positive that the levels weren't the same, but perhaps I am mistaken. At anyrate it only speaks further ill of the game if it is true.

I played through the game twice, once with my guy and once with my brother and the levels were exactly the same for each time.

When I owned Baldurs Gate, I beat it in less than 10 hrs, and Norrath has 3 quests, and I've put in over 10 hrs and still have a lot to go on the first quest of it.  The game easily has over 30 hrs of gameplay just for the single player mode.
