Title: Unreal Tournament 2004
Post by: BoB007 on February 17, 2004, 04:14:40 PM
I know this game is coming out on PC, but i have yet to see a release date set for XBOX which i originally thought the game was coming out on.  Wow thats a very grammatically incorrect sentence . Anywho, is there any information on whether or not this game is coming out on XBOX?

The easiest way to get it on the XBox: Install Linux, use the Linux build of UT2k4.

With that Linux trick you wouldn't need XBoxLive for Online games, either and could add mods and other addons for it. Heck, the first UT2004 addon playermodels are ready by now!

The game isn't coming out for the XBox as far as I know.  It's a PC-exclusive.  The "200x" series of Unreal is being kept on the PC; the XBox gets Championship.  I don't think that there's a version coming out on the XBox due to the lackluster sales of UT Championship.  Your best bet is to pick it up on the PC - considering that it's developed for it specifically, and the XBox version would be a port, you're going to have more fun with it.

Oh, and I'd grab the beta demo that just came out.  While you'll need a beefy computer to fully enjoy it, it's better than UT2003 even in this early state, and the vehicles are just plain awesome.

Searano, i already have the demo and i love it. That is why i was wondering if it came out on XBOX.  I am getting a 50-60 inch T.V. and thought playing UT2004 on it would be amazing.

Heh, you can always use a TV-Out cable in order to play it on your new TV, you know...provided that your graphics card supports it, and that your TV will be close enough to the computer...

If you have the pc demo...linux probably isn't the way to go really.  Just TV-out it like what is said above, same effect really, just a faster system.

Hopefully this one will be good as 2000 (I think that's the one).  2003 was crap compared to that.  I saw some previews, though, and have it downloaded on the server at school, and it looks okay, so I may check it out.

UT 2003 was crap?  What are you smoking?  Yes, it's more Quake-like in it's visual style, and yes, it's unbalanced in some places (Minigun is too weak, etc.), but it's far from crap.  It can't top the original, but it's certainly better than Quake 3.  The graphics in it are also great, and still beat most things out right now.

And 2004 isn't just "alright"...it's like Halo only much, much better.

Well, as a vanilla game, 03 was a lot better than UT1, but the series is still best modded to oblivion and back. Onslaught is the most fun I had since... Well, I dunno when. It came out just before I went on a LAN and we played the hell out of it. They really proved they weren't going like EA with those yearly versions.

Uglydot: Linux and PC don't contradict each other, the Linux version ran better than the Window one on the comp of one of my friends.

The nVidia drivers for linux are much better than in windows.  If this guy as an ATi card, he gets poo linux support.  I have run them both extensivly.   UT2k4 runs perfectly on my Windows install.  I ran ut2k3 and it ran better on my windows.  It is a way to go, but way to much work for one game that runs perfectly fine on his present OS.  This obsession with linux still makes me wonder.

He has a GeForce 2. I guess that answers your question. He's using Linux since he's primarily a programmer, with Perl as his main language.

Then it's whatever he wants, doesn't make much of a difference either way.  I know the tv-out for ATis is crappy, no idea on nVidias.  Not that anyone cares at this point...
