Post by: ralph98201 on February 09, 2004, 06:38:55 PM
im not sure if this is even a legal post, but i'm curious to know if Planet Gamecube will keep its name even after the launch of Nintendo's next home console. stupid question, i know, but i couldn't help but be curious.

I don't think there's need for a name change. Imagine years from now, the name would become retro, and cool.(Or PlanetRob)

i'm no marketing expert, but it seems to me that no name change might seem a little bit out-dated. after all, someone who doesn't already know anything about PGC would probably skip over a search result with the word 'Gamecube' in it, and go to the site that brags about N5 (tentative) coverage. just imo.

Maybe "Planet GameCube" should be changed to "PGC". You know like KFC came from Kentucky Fried Chicken or well [insert numerous other examples here]. I know it's simple and unimaginative but I don't think I've seen this suggestion before, maybe it was just too obvious/& yes that can be taken two ways, I meant too obvious to mention, as opposed to being too obvious that everyone else missed it.

BTW, this isn't the first time this subject's come up, is it

You guys should just see how much Gamespy wants for PlanetNintendo.com....  they don't seem to be using it any more...

(pff, i know they would charge you an arm and a leg.  I can't stand cyber squatting when the domain isn't even in use.)

Tasty pineapple tidbit:  The term "cost you an arm and a leg" comes from back in colonial times when portraits were made instead of pictures.  The painter would charge the person not by how big the picture was, but how many limbs they painted.  Rich people would have all four, but people with less money would be standing behind a desk or have a hand behind their back.  Hence the term, "That'll cost you an arm and a leg."

Just another piece of my infinite brain stuff.

He's full of BS, dude.  Don't listen to him.

(Just messin'.  Pretty cool)

We should change the name to "Hostile Creation Rocks and is the Best and Gets All the Women" or something like that.

I'm full of useless knowlege like that.  For example, "Saving face," "crack a smile," and " mind your own beeswax" all come from the same thing.  In (again) colonial days, people would spread beeswax over their face to prevent wrinkling or acne or something (can't remember), hence "saving face."  Sometimes, though, the wax would harden, and it would crack when people smiled, hence "crack a smile."  And lastly, when they sat to close to the fire, which was the only way to heat your house back then, the beeswax would start melting, but it was impolite to tell another person that this was happening, hence "mind your own beeswax."

If you don't believe me, then I should at least get credit for coming up with such great answers.

Nah, those are the truth, though.  If I don't know the origin, I'm usually pretty good at making them up, too.  It's like my only talent. =P

KnowsNothing:  I'll be sure to give you credit the next time I play Jeopardy.

On-Topic:  Eh, I assume that a name change would be a good idea, even though this one is catchy.  As for the KFC reference, they're actually called KFC because they don't use Kentucky fried chickens anymore...just genetically modified ones.  It's considered false advertising, I think, so they were forced to change it.

Okay, that got off-topic fast again.

I thought they changed the name of Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC because the word"Fried" was bad for business. Now I heard that KFC was changing their name to "Kitchen Fresh Chicken".

On the subject of fast food, a Big Mac has enough calories to power a vacuum cleaner for 98 minute!

Bring it on, KnowsNothing- I can't take anything you got.
