If you're happy with your GBA, keep it. If you don't like having to replace batteries or use different sources of lights, I believe several stores have nice deals where you can trade your old GBA in towards the purchase of an SP. I personally prefer the original GBA myself, since it feels much nicer in my hands, has much better positioned shoulder buttons (indeed, more comfortable buttons overall), and since I play at home mostly anyway I don't need the light. That's just me, though.

the light in the gbasp makes it worth owning- and the rechargeable battery is nice too

GBA SP = GBA + rechargable battery (10 hours light on, 18 light off) + front lit light. the end, system wise they are exactly the same. if you want it to play in bed at home or what ever, then a Gameboy Player would be a better option.

I think it may be pre-played though. I have an SP and a regular GBA and think that I am going to do the deal even if it is pre-owned

If you buy anything to add-on to your GBA (like light, giant battery pack, etc) you're wasting money.  So really buy the SP instead if you plan to add anything to your GBA.  But I would still keep both if you had the GBA before because there might be more games where if you use the GBA as a controller for multiplayer you might have to need another GBA.

Yes you can, it would be the same as a normal GBA.

Dude when you get a GBASP almost everything is basically better.  In games the only difference is when you play sensitive tilting games.  Cartridge is upside down.  Nowadays developers are giving you the option to choose if you have a GBA or GBASP.  So when you do get one don't get rid of the other GBA.  You might have that one friend to let use.  Also the GBA will be the backup if something happens to the SP.

i'm happy with my normal gba. i thought about picking up an sp, but i keep looking as it thinking my hands will be cramped while playing.

really though, i've never had any problems with the normal gba. everywhere i seem to go i seem to be able to find perfect lighting.

Very true especially if you go on a camping trip which has no electrical outlet to do the 3 hr charge unless you have access to a trailer or have a car lighter adapter.

I bought an SP after owning an original one, and i haven't regretted it. And all of you are mentioning the things like the light and the battery, but you're forgetting that the SP is just so damn cool!!

I never played the original, I've only had my GBA for a couple months and I bought the SP. I consider myself to have Gorilla Hands (I thought the original XBOX controller was comfortable) and I find the GBA-SP comfortable to play. I also love the backlight because I can play in the car at night (not while driving) without ticking everyone else off by asking for the dome light to be on.

The only real drawback for me is the lack of a headphone jack. I'm going to buy the adapter soon, but it would have been nice to have been able to just jack some headphones in.

I have gorilla alien hands hah, I played some SP on store displays and its pretty comfy too. The original Xbox controller was pretty comfy but the D pad and the black and silver buttons irritated me and the S made the start back silver and black more of a pain(I play Xbox sometimes over friends for CO-OP).
