Electronic Arts and Marvel Comics have signed a deal for new video games to be published by EA. The games will star superheroes from a pool of about 100 Marvel characters (though probably fewer will actually be included in each game), as well as original EA characters created exclusively for these games. The deal covers fighting games only, a genre EA is certainly not well known for but is perhaps looking to test in the market.
There is no information on the original EA characters. The publisher currently lacks a strong lineup of its own characters, due to the fact that most of its successful games are in the sports genre or licensed from movies. The new characters created for this deal will be licensed back to Marvel for use in tie-in comic books.
Reuters also notes that EA has previously acquired licenses for Batman and Superman. Some of Marvel's characters, including the Punisher and the Hulk, are not covered in the EA deal due to exclusivity with other publishers. However, the new agreement does include Spider-Man and the X-Men, who are eligible outside Activision's licenses because EA is creating fighting and not action games.

Sounds good to me, but I wonder who the EA characters are. The Sims maybe? But that doesn't seem to go along with the others...

I get the impression, from readin this, that EA is just going to make up characters for the game, which haven't been seen in any Marvel Comic/Movie/Cartoon; however, these characters EA makes will be featured in future Marvel Comics it sounds like.
Also, I want Marvel vs. Capcom 3... ;_;

I think it's safe to say that there's no way in hell that this will top Capcom's efforts with the Marvel universe. When I think of fighting games the last company I think of is EA. But then when I think of games I care about period the last company I think of is EA.
Marvel vs Capcom worked because Capcom has tons of original cool characters. EA doesn't really have any. Their most popular "mascot" is John Madden and he's a real person. EA games just focus on realism and sports too much to really have any characters that I would want to put up against Marvel heroes. Marvel vs SSX just doesn't have any dream match appeal.

"Electronic Arts and Marvel Enterprises have today announced a deal that will see EA developing fighting games that pit super heroes from the Marvel universe against new EA heroes." -http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6087557.html
Seems I was right, these characters will be all new. So its Marvel vs. Generic Heroes: All Star Match!
Personally, I would rather just see more Marvel characters, than whatever EA can come up with.

Wow this is the worst news ive heard in a long time.
Isnt there any developer out there that can save us from EA?
First they have to ruin the Bond games and then they take out Westwood Studios (Command & Conquer).
EA is just getting worse and worse yet ppl keep buying and buying and i bet even Marvel VS EA game will sell.

Personally I think "marvel vs. those old guys from the sonic heroes commercial" would make a better game.

That is so true!
I do not like this one bit. EA are becoming the MS of third-party publishers.

Madden would make a great fighting game character. One of his super moves would be BOOM and he could sprinkle the enemy to death with Tinactin foot power or stuff his face with a Turducken.

Maybe they can have a bunch of WWII veterans from the MOH games, and pit them against Captain America. Or even better, all the vet's against Deadpool (scary superhuman Nazi) I think we should give this game a break, EA can make a good fighting game if they really wanted to right.......hahahaha, no seriously let’s be positive.

Considering this started shortly after the release of 007:EON it might be done by the same team.
