Title: Star Wars Rebel Strike
Post by: mjbd on January 31, 2004, 09:03:40 AM
How is the smooth is the framerate in Rebel Strike?  Better than Rouge Leader?  I liked R.L. but the framerate was a bit jumpy.  Rebel Strike is only 29.99 now and I am thinking about picking it up, but if the framerate is worse than the first one, I think I will pass.

I never had any problems with the frame rate in RL but I would recommend RS if you liked RL. Not only do you have the great quest but also there is the whole of RL in 2 player.

The framerate is worse.  But many gameplay sequences are still "smooth" depending on how you look at it.

HA!  that is funny.  Rouge Leader.  I didnt even notice that.  Did you know that a study proved that most people dont actually pay attention to what they are reading?  As long as all the letters are the same and the first and last letters are right, they will understand it.  Jsut lkie tihs

Jep, Jeff K is too extreme and some uncommon words don't autocomplete well.
Rouge Leader would make some sense, since your callsign is Red Leader, but it's still wrong.
Another funny thing is how often people confuse CGI (web scripts and the like) with CG (computer graphics)...

The game's extremely buggy, too- I had it freeze many times on the horrendus foot missions.

I was both pleased and disapointed with RS.  On the one hand, the vehicle based missions were generally very good, and there are some great moments there.  I loved the beginning and end of the Geonosis mission, the assault on the Death Star laser prototype, the speeder bike chase, and the attack on the Super Star Destroyer.  All were great moments and were up there with the best missions of the first two games.  On the other hand, the foot missions were a huge letdown.  The controls were lousy, and felt like they were straight out of the worst missions in Shadows of the Empire.  On top of that, the levels were boring and far too linear.  Even the best of the foot mission levels (the Death Star level and the Bespin level) only had a little bit that could take you off the beaten path.  Honestly, I think that Factor 5 tried too had to have Rogue Squadron be the definative Star Wars game.  I think that if they make another Star Wars game (and I honestly think that the developers are pretty bored with it at this point), then they should concentrate on what they do best: arcade style flight, and just build from there.  I mean, there are a host of improvements they could make to the flight engine, as well as other things (online anyone?).  I'd recomend RS for the flight levels if you really loved RL, like I did.  Otherwise, I'd wait and pick it up used.

I finnaly picked it up for $20 at Best Buy, and my only regret is that I didnt buy it when it first came out.  Grogeous graphics, noticeably better than the last effort, which says alot.  I really like the walker missions.  The on foot stuff reminds me of the SNES/Genesis era, just keep shooting.  Factor 5 has their $%#^ together.

on foot mission sucked beyond beleif.  The controls were all clunky and made me wish for resident evil.  They should stick to the air.

Rebel Strike was a really fun game. The levels (not including any of the "on foot" ones) were even more fun and challenging than Rogue Leader's were. The graphics even seemed a little bit improved. All in all it's the superior of the two.

It's just too bad that the "on foot" missions failed to add anything positive to the gaming experience. But I think Factor 5 must've realized this at some point for there weren't that many in the game. I guess it was simply something to do so that the game could be seen as something different from it's precursor.

Edit: can't spall tu gud
